The restaurant was small however that did not detract from the choice of menu and drinks. The food was lovely, the service was very good and the overall experience was positive.
Nice cosy wee restaurant, delicious food which was served promptly and tasty wine. Great service. Handy central location too. Very reasonable price for everything as well. Will definitely be back again. Thanks!
Really friendly staff, great night out. Good food and big portion sizes, table a teensy bit cramped with all the food, but more than manageable.
The food was Excellent, it was very reasonable prices and the service was good with very friendly staff. There was limited choices but what we managed....
Wow. Great night was had at this place. Food was beautiful. Drinks were made well. Staff were friendly and efficient. Would highly recommend to friends x
good to find somewhere for a group on a friday evening in december at relatively short notice - especially within Edinburgh city centre! atmosphere nice when it quite quickly busied up. service quite slow despite it not being busy when we arrived, but food lovely, fresh and presentation of food very nice. friendly staff. I would go back.
Excellent food and good service. The red wine we requested was not in stock, we were offered an alternate but at the lower price of the wine we had first selected.
Just lovely! Restaurant only had a few tables, we were served instantly and the food arrived fast. The server was extremely friendly and took care of us very well, with a few jokes in the mix :) The food tasted great! Serving too much for one person we had to take away. We were given 20% off for the next meal to boot! For 15 pounds pp we had a glass of wine, starter and main with rice sides. Definitely visiting again. 10/10!
Great service with a smile, lovely food and an excellent bottle of wine to go with it.! Will definitely be back! Best meal for a long while!
doesn't look anything special, but the food is to die for. Would certainly recommend and will return on my next visit to Edinburgh. Was very pleasantly surprized
This was our first time at the restaurant. We had a very well presented and delicious meal at a very reasonable price. I will definitely go again.
Ginger is a fantastic restaurant based on the southern edge of Edinburgh's old town. Consistently excellent food, good value and kind, friendly service. One of my favourites in the city. Recommended.
Fab, as always! I have eaten here 5 or 6 times now and everything, especially the food, is always first class. Thanks again for a great experience.
Have been 4 times now and the food is fabulous every time. I honestly don't think there is an Indian/Nepalese restaurant offering food of this quality anywhere else in Edinburgh and run by lovely, friendly people. Outstanding.
Excellent food and service. Staff were very friendly and rewarded the 6 of us with complimentary whisky - a wonderful touch. The best Indian restaurant in Edinburgh at this time.
Very good food and service despite the restaurant being very busy. Tables were rather cramped - especially the smaller tables for two. This meant that staff and other patrons were brushing past our table frequently.
Busy Monday evening filled with lively, happy people, many just been to/going to a fringe event. The staff were brilliant - accommodating, professional and friendly. Meal was amazing. Every course a delight. Thoroughly enjoyable experience. Will return.
Best Indian meal even let us , book in early for the meal. Going back for the Christmas market, small place but very clean and service very good
A small menu, but what superb food! Our two main dishes were among the tastiest Nepalese/Indian food we have ever tasted. Pleasant service too. We highly recommend Ginger in Edinburgh.
We had hoped to take advantage of a pre-theatre menu but for some reason we couldn't. I can't remember why but that was a little annoying. However, the food was absolutely excellent.
This was our second visit and as good as the first. The food took a little while to appear, but was well worth the wait. Obviously cooked to order, the sauce was thick and full of flavour, the meat tender and the nans with their ginger and dates really tasty. The host is a very friendly and generous man.
I absolutely love this place! Quiet and sometimes empty-ish but under-rated in my opinion! Always great welcome from Kumar whenever we visit, food absolutely delicious!
the meal was lovely. service we felt was a bit slow and the tables we thought to close together, felt like couple on next table were with us just waiting for their meal to come. would return for the food alone
Small and personal service, very friendly and helpful staff. Food prepared and cooked to perfection - not a hint of reheating. Shame to have to share the opinion in case it gets too busy to get in in future!!!!
This is a fabulous wee restaurant. The food is delicious and the customer service is top notch. Friendly staff and nice surroundings. If you haven't tried it - you have to. It's a bit of a hidden treasure because it's in a wee side street but now I'm worried the word spreads and it gets so popular I can't get a table! The menu is pretty much what you'd expect from an Indian Restaurant, but there's a subtle difference in the flavours (I assume that's the Nepalese influence) . Love the vegetable pakora (served flat pattie style) and the Ginger rice - nice change to the usual. My Chicken Korma was just yummy and my friend really enjoyed his Bhuna Madras which literally brought tears to his eyes - but in a good way! If you are seeing shows in the Fringe, Ginger is in the perfect location for a pre or post-show meal as it's only a few minutes walk away from venues in Chambers St, Pleasance, Bristo Square and George Square.
Although the service was friendly, we found it to be a bit slow- half an hour after our arrival, we did have our beers but still awaited the poppadoms. The kitchen seemed to struggle with the orders even when the restaurant wasn't full. Food very tasty but beware it is rather more spicy than most !!
Food and service very good what else can I say.situation of restaurant a bit tucked away on college street but so near Festival theatre a good place for a pre theatre meal
This is an excellent wee restaurant, hidden away in a side street. Plain and simple decor, more like a cafe than a restaurant. Don't let that put you off though, the food is of the highest quality, and the service is excellent. Highly recommended.
Lovely restaurant, food delicious and very friendly and helpful staff. Reasonably priced food and drinks. Nepalese beer very tasty. Central location and nice decor. Clean facilities.
Wonderful food – some of the best I've ever had – and good service once she loosens up a bit! She can seem a bit dour to start with...
We were greeted by friendly staff who were attentive throughout the meal. The food was tasty with good portion sizes. Would highly recommend a visit.
Excellent food ,no complaints. Staff polite ,surroundings could do with being looked at ,too bright ,tables cramped together and small with the usual plastic flower! With a bit of care and imagination, ie bigger tables(if we had ordered any more dishes they would not have fitted on the table ) ,tablecloths ,better menus etc this could be a really nice restaurant . Would return again but only because of the food .
Excellent wee restaurant, food was fresh and delicious. Staff were pleasant and it's location is great if you are heading to the Festival Theatre, with the added bonus of on street parking right at the door.
We went there for pre-theatre meal. It is very close to Festival theatre which is very convenient. The food was nice and the service was quick. We will come back there.
excellent food. one of the best meals of this type I've had and I've had a few. Small intimate restaurant. Confusion over our booking but courteous staff found us a table.
A small intimate place with fantastic food and a warm welcome. Our starters were beautiful prepared and presented and all four of us had a different one and all agreed they were excellent. A small word of warning here. If you like fast food this is not for you as good gap is left between courses. We had a good chat while the chef put a lot of time and effort into preparing our equally superb main courses. Again we each chose something different so we gave the small but varied menu a good workout. With starters, mains, 2 bottles of wine, beer and soft drinks the bill came to £100, or £25 per head which is very good value in Edinburgh. With a great combination of location, ambience, staff and food I would definitely recommend Ginger. We will certainly be back.
We went to Ginger restaurant on a Groupon voucher on Valentines day and the staff could not have been nicer. They gave us free appetisers and dessert. The food was delicious, especially the chicken tikka. They even gave me a single red rose on leaving. We will definitely go back to eat again.
The chicken momos are heavenly and so is the chai. Took me back to Nepal in a bite. The atmosphere is beautiful and owners are a treat.
We ate here using a voucher we had received as a gift. We were very impressed! Quality of the food was excellent, curries were not greasy at all. Everest beer on tap was great and could not fault the service. We will definitely be back!
We absolutely loved it here. The restaurant set up looks a bit like a cafe so we were a bit sceptical but the reviews we read had been great. The food was amazing. The best Indian meal I have ever had. If we had been visiting Edinburgh for longer we would've booked in again. You won't be disappointed
The food was passable but we felt that the service was somewhat unfriendly and the atmosphere was not very conducive as the room is very sparse and echoey.
this is a nice wee place, it was quite busy for a Saturday of course, the chutney and poppadoms were lovely, my lamb was excellent, my wifes chicken was just very slightly over and a wee bit chewy, the bread and rice were great, as were the mango lassi's we had. was good and no complaints as such. Will improve once they get up to speed with "Edinburgh" dining... would go again. Cheers. Mr B
Great little restaurant. Food was amazing and tasted really authentic. Staff lovely too. Worth a visit. Not very busy and slightly off the beaten track but don't let that put you off.
Food was delicious especially the ginger rice. Starter portion of tandoori king prawns tasted nice but only got two. Service was good but no atmosphere as we were the only two in the place but it was 5.30 on a Wednesday. The place on the whole could do with re decorating as the paint on walls was dirty and scuffed, furniture and flooring has a cheap look.
Food hot and tasty. Quick service and very helpful about squeezing 2 more diners in at the last minute when they were very busy with the Fringe.
Ginger is one of the best places to eat Indian food in Edinburgh. It's a great little place with amazing food, vibes and service. The chicken mo mo is a personal favourite!
