The food at the Mother Huffcap was excellent on our last visit a few months ago. My wife and I were looking forward to a pleasant lunch. There were plenty of spaces in the pub’s car park - a few too many. It was entirely empty! We then noticed that all the curtains were drawn inside. There was no sign of life and the front door was locked. The pub’s listing on Google Maps said ‘open’. It definitely wasn’t. So, pissed off and with rumbling bellies we went back home. 0/10
Arrived in plenty of time to find curtains drawn and doors locked. Obviously not a business that is operational and this site shouldn’t be taking bookings!
Pub was cold staff couldn’t really be bothered as there was only 15 customers in. Had our meal which was ok nothing special and left to go to another pub to get warm. Shame it’s a nice place.
Decided to take my friend from Spain to a local pub for good old English fish and chips. What a mistake. Crying baby. Batter on the fish diabolical ( turmeric???!!!). Homemade tartare sauce nice, peas cold. chips good. Service just not there. I did complain and was told, new chef, they will change batter!!! Did get a refund. Really hope it's proper batter next time, I will definitely ask first.
good food ok service not very warm in the restaurant
Friendly service , cosy peaceful dining area , and delicious 😋 food in a nice location
Last minute booking, no problem. Staff friendly and happy. Food was lovely and good price.
Quite surprised at the cost of the drinks we had. £10.50 for a large white wine seems exceptional. Crispy Thai Beef was overcooked As was the Panna Cotta dessert.
Had our worse meal ever in this pub. The chickpea curry had no flavour, the chickpeas were all mushy and I'm sure it all came out of a can. Served with a few popadom crisps out of a packet. The panna cotta served in a bowl was like custard with a solid thick rubbery skin on top. No care at all taken with this food.
Seemed slightly short of staff. Food could have been warmer but overall no real complaints
It was very quiet at lunchtime, we were only ones in! My liver and bacon was good, well cooked and only one piece I couldn't eat as it was sinuey. My friend enjoyed her ham, egg and chips. Staff were friendly.
Food was good. Service wasn’t as good as a few months back. Waiting staff needed to be a bit more on the ball.
We visitd on a Monday evening so the pub was very quiet. Food offer was good especially the gluten-free choices on the menu.
Four of us ate at Mother Huffcap’s this evening and we all enjoyed our meals; fish & chips with the sweetest mushy peas and great chips, a tasty burger & a delicious chicken curry accompanied by a smooth Malbec. Friendly and good service.
Beef could have been cooked a bit longer and the veg could have been a bit more seanable
Great meal at a good price. We will return to this pub.
Great service, & great food, grandchildren cannot wait to return 👍
Food was amazing, service was amazing too. The chap serving was very helpful , friendly and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble for him. We visited on Friday the 9th august for a birthday meal. Would definitely recommend
The pizzas and the ake were good but unfortunately the service was very slow. This is an issue we have experienced previously. It seems if you sit in the restaurant area, even though it's in front of the kitchen, you get forgotten about. The restaurant was empty save for us. Kitchen staff were clearly visible standing around
Went on a quiet Tuesday, but had no issues with the food or service. Had great Godmother burger and cheese cake, washed down with a good pale ale.
First visit. Very impressed! A great find with a varied menu with plenty of GF options
Fantastic staff, nothing too much trouble even when really busy, The food is amazing and excellent value for money, think we have found our favourite local pub, thank you
Staff made us feel very welcome.food was very good . Will go again. Very pleasant atmosphere.
My fish finger sandwich was a bit cool, it could have been stood on the pass too long. my friends risotto wasn't very hot but we were hungry so didn't complain.
The food was lovely, I had the Mac n cheese with beef, very tasty.
We had the mother huff platter to share and I must say it was very, very good.
Lovely waitress excellent food. Will be back . Ideal for everyone
It's a shame it's always so quiet in the week. They should do more offers maybe. But I had the lunch special, £11 for fish and chips and it was lovely.
Great food and staff. Dog friendly. Nice place, very lovely
Last minute decision to come to Great Alne, pleased we did
Lovely venue. Good food good service will definitely be back
Tuesday lunch , very quiet (real plus if hard of hearing) Great surroundings, good food and service. Definitely recommend.
The food was good and reasonably priced although it’s not a huge menu. The service wasn’t great though. We were left for quite a while a few times waiting to order drinks and for the bill.
Friendly staff good food great setting enjoyed it a lot
Lively food Lovely service Great value for a lovely evening
Superb Sunday lunch, masses of food, well cooked served with a friendly smile, will definitely visit again?
The food was cold and it tasted awful left most of it service was very bad one of the worst meal I've had
Quiet when we visited but great food, service and friendly staff. 😃👍
Food was excellent quality and quantity and very reasonable priced,
Attentive staff food well presented but not enough chicken in the curry more bone than meat and no bajees
A staple product of fish n chips not available, the girl server not too interested in her job it seems……not good overall and can see why with very few diners for a Thursday….
Warm welcome and excellent service. Friendly staff. Highly recommended venue
Nice place, staff welcoming, good food, good selection of beers too.
Comfortable., no background unwanted "music", no dogs in Restaurant..good restriction.
Excellent friendly staff with good value food and great atmosphere
