Very tasty, lovely atmosphere, attentive staff and the steak is amazing!

Amazing food, wish they put in a kids menu and have high chairs would be wonderful. But overall the best bbq meat i've had in a while.

This restaurant had another place in Morrison street which was much bigger and they did Halaal food. Now they have closed and moved further up and they no longer do halaal meat. Shame the concept was really good but wont be going there anymore. This is just my view as they dont do Halaal meat.

They had run out of rose wine which was surprising. The food was fine but nothing special. The atmosphere was nowhere near as good as in their previous venues and the lighting is largely bare light bulbs, not relaxing for a restaurant!

Stellar staff, delicious food and great value, I’ll definitely be back to work my way through the rest of the menu!

lovely meal. We’re steak lovers & while the quality was quite good (I’ve been spoilt by actual Braai’s in South Africa so I think I was expecting that), the quantity was seriously good! Great value for money & still very tasty. We would definitely be back.

Everything was absolutely perfect from the quaint surroundings, very attentive service staff and, of course, the food including taste and portions. My husband and I actually shared a mixed plate and it was quite ample !

We had a fabulous meal in the Shebeen . The steaks were cooked to perfection, tender and full of flavour. The waiting staff were excellent, This has been our second Visit and we will return

This restaurant was recommended to us with great reviews. There were 4 of us. I had a fillet steak, which was good enough but didn't think much of the sides, overcooked wedges and mushrooms and tasteless onion rings. My husband ordered a ribye, my friend a sirloin and her husband a t-bone steak, however all their steaks were tough and they only ate a quarter at most. We complained and didn't have to pay for 3 out of 4 steaks. Overall we were all really disappointed with the food however we could not fault the service or the staff as they were very attentive and they took our complaint on board and quickly offered money off the 3 steaks. If only the food had matched the wonderful staff who offered great service.

This is a great restaurant. We had the starter, Fanagalo. Which was really a bucketful of delicious meat. Sausages, chicken wings, melting ribs, meatballs, all barbecued to perfection. Unfortunately, we were too filled up to even think of doing a main course (but I will definitely be back to try the potjie and the pap and vlies) we did share a spectacular amarula malva pudding (it was like a sticky toffee pudding)

Being a South African, this was certainly a taste of home. Tanya the hostess was amazing. A wee bit disappointed about the pap. Otherwise great portions and good vibes. DaNike baie, sales weer kom.

We frequent Shebeen quite regularly for a couple who live in the USA. My husband and I both work for an airline and Shebeen is one of our most favourite restaurants on our layovers. The food is consistently good, I love the steaks, the flavour and the presentation is fantastic. You will never leave feeling anything but full and often with a treat for the next day. I've recommended the restaurant to passengers on the plane as they often ask if we know places to go and I am fully confident they will enjoy it as much as we do. The servers are always fun and pleasant, we have never had a bad night there, my only complaint, is that they sometimes are full and as we have to make reservations at the last minute I completely understand that they cant always fit us in!

Simply put, it was great food, great service, great atmosphere. We will definitely be going back there next we are in Edinburgh. It was recommended to us and we would definitely recommend it to others.

Great fillet steaks and Castle Light is the way forward! The staff are always very friendly and the speed of delivering that first drink critical to the success of the entire evening.

Fabulous meal with great atmosphere. Great selection on the menu also, and keeping true to its South African theme. Difficult to actually find the restaurant though and bathroom was a bit dirty.

We had to wait one hour and 20 minutes for a Burger and two ribryes. The ribeyes were cooked medium rare and medium but the meat was so tough that you couldn't cut it with a knife..

Very good. Even the small steaks are quite large. Dessert was so bad if we had to share it. Would definitely go again next time we are in Edinburgh

True south African food and dessert. Portions are big so come hungry. They also serve SA beer. Service is quick and yee staff friendly, more than happy to take questions and have a chat.

Absolutely perfect experience. The restaurant is cute, the food is delicious, and there are multiple South African wines on the menu. We had a wonderful time.

Food was excellent. Iv had the peppermint crisp dessert every time iv been to shebeen but was disappointed with it this time because I think that they have changed it slightly. We were left waiting a while for the empty plates and glasses to be cleared from our table. Apart from those issues everything was excellent.

Service was excellent, meat prepared to perfection. Atmosphere lively but relaxed. The malva pudding dessert was wonderful, but not sure why ice cream/cream is not served to compliment such a rich, sweet dessert. To their credit, they added this foc on request. An enjoyable evening, this may well become a regular venue - excellent value for money.
