More about the restaurant: Hurwundeki
Just a mere 50 yards from Bethnal Green you’re in for something truly unique: Hurwundeki (“hair” in Korean dialect) is housing Korean dining, a hair salon and a vintage boutique all in one place. Still with us? Good. Ki Chul-lee was one of Seoul’s top hairdressers, and here he’s doing it all: Offering you stylish 15 minute haircuts and employing three chefs to make authentic Korean dining a dream come true. The dishes follow simple yet tasty recipes, all prepared without MSG, using home made soy sauce and chilli sauce. This place in the Arches on Cambridge Heath Road is a must-see.

Most restaurants claim to be ‘unique’ or ‘special’. They are not. There’s only one place fitting these attributes, and that would be Hurwundeki on Cambridge Heath Road. Why? The Korean restaurant doubles as a hair salon and vintage boutique, meaning you get to enjoy a fine Bibimbap, have your hair cut expertly in 15 minutes and shop for some vintage odds n ends for your flat all at the same place. Unique? Special? Oh, we’d surely say so. Just a few feet from Bethnal Green, you get to enjoy starters for as low as five pounds.
Ki Chul-lee was one of Seoul’s top hairdressers when he left South Korea for London in 2000. He launched his own fashion line and opened a hair salon in Spitalfields. Then he came up with the idea for Hurwundeki in the Arches, combining food and haircuts, saying: “I’m good at both.” And yes, that’s the truth. Three chefs make the Korean dishes at Hurwundeki so enjoyable, cook classic dishes with home-blended soy sauce and chilli sauces and without MSG. The interior is as you would expect: low-key but agreeable, brick walls, stylish ambiance. Must see in East London.
