The Optimist

Our friends, my wife and I are big fans of The Optimist. The value proposition is terrific. But, we despair that it is falling down in execution this year. Unfriendly bartenders, rushed table service, food just not up to the same standard as before. We just hope our three visits in the past six months were each on "bad nights"...

Incredible food, lovely environment and staff are very attentive. Food is served at perfect pace to ensure efficient service, but also to allow you to enjoy each dish. Can’t wait to return!

Great place for brunch or lunch with an amazing spread of cold cuts cheese and salad buffet and a la carte mains.

-Nice place and food quality of Sunday brunch with reasonable price. But only the menu items and hot appetizer is almost same as previous month.

+ Great food + Good selection of buffet No so nice: - We have to wait 15 minutes (till 12:30) for the restaurant to get ready (they open at 12noon) - Waited a long while to have our bill possessed

Our visit was very pleasant, the staffs are very friendly and they even given our 2yo a complimentary ice cream!!! a family friendly restaurant and also great for catch up!

Pleasant spot for lunch, although it is a bit cramped upstairs as it gets very busy. Good food at a good price, will go again.

Love the Optimist for the easygoing vibe and great authentic Spanish flavours. A nice change from tapas to have wholesome meals. Service is really good and the food has enough variety for all tastes while sticking to the Spanish theme. We’ve been twice for a la Carter dinners and once for brunch. I’d recommend the evening options - while the brunch food was great, the free flow didn’t exactly flow and service was a little erratic. All up Guzman as host and Matt in the kitchen together with the team make for a memorable dining experience. Good wine list.

Good quality food for a decent price. Lunch set has a good variety of options including the starter (buffet with typical Spanish ham, cheese, gazpacho, some pinchos and salads), I will definitely come back.

Vibrant atmosphere, delicious food and service that keeps getting better and better. Highly recommend the broken eggs, cuttle fish, and steak and grilled fish. Save room for the brioche pudding!

Ever-reliable venue for quality food and great service. Lunches are great value and are highly recommended too. Fish dishes are a highlight, albeit tend to need to be shared.

The Optimist is one of our favourite restaurants in HK and we were not disappointed again. Great variety of food including good vegetarian options. Staff always very friendly and attentive.

My friends and I went for the brunch buffet. The waiters were nice and the food was great! We had a good time there. Will visit it again!

The ambience of the restaurant was nice, comfortable sofas and great food. However the bathroom really needs more care – it was dirty and not maintained well.

Nice atmosphere, very welcoming staff, good wine too. Only a bit of disappointment regarding the quality of food. I must say too that I’m not a big fan of Spanish cuisine which could explain :)

We had the brunch on CNY day 2. Service was attentive and the restaurant ambience was good. Food portions were generous but the variety was a bit lacking.

Had dinner here before but never tried their brunch menu. Good value for the price. All you can eat salad bar with Iberico ham and Salami. 3 entrees, 1 main course and desert. We had the Al Horno baked rice. Will try the steak next time. Overall great service and great food.

Nice food - baked seafood rice was beautiful but the flat iron steak was not as good as expected. Cheese cake is a must-eat. nice vibe, friendly staff, definitely a great place for friends gathering

I find the food quality was very good and service was attentive and professional. This was my 2nd visit and will definitely return and/or recommend to friends.

What a good overall experience in the optimist. The pirata group is excellent, I've already tried Tokyolima, the pici and pirata , keep it up:)

Restaurant has a great atmosphere and food is absolutely delicious. Very good for sharing and large groups. Wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. Will come again.

Went there based on TripAdvisor’s review. Service was good. That’s the only reason why I didn’t give 1 Star. Sorry to say that the food was pretty horrible. Paella tasted like Chinese fried rice. Needless to say I won’t be returning.

Great service, convivial atmosphere, and super-tasty food. We ate mostly the small dishes and four of them were definitely sufficient for the two of us. The organisation of the wine list in pricing bands is innovative and really helpful!

Great food, very nice atmosphere, staff were very helpful. We had cocktails downstairs before and after the meal, which were reasonably priced. Not the best toilets.

We had dinner there, we Loved the atmosphere. The food was very tasty, some food was served in a traditional pot which makes the experience even better. We like a lot the service of the waiter/manager. We are going back again for sure.

Great food, good service, hardly anything to complain about! Definitely recommend the grilled octopus, flatiron steak, and the tuna tartare. Sharing portions are decent and are sufficient for a group of 4. Multiple portions required for bigger groups.

Good atmosphere and nice buffet assortment. Still, I would say a bit expensive for a set lunch. Would not go there everyday but would recommend to be quiet.

Loud and food was average at best. Good for a casual bite for work, but not so much for intimate setting. Decor is very nice

We had an amazing evening at The Optomist. The relaxed ambiance of the restaurant makes it one of the best we have ever experienced. The decor compliments the Spanish food which was delicious. The staff were attentive & polite. The manager, Sam was excellent. He went above & beyond to make our evening perfect. We can’t think of a better place to have got engaged. Memories we will cherish forever. Love this restaurant & highly recommend it!

Our pork ribs were undercooked and when we asked the waitress she said that the cook mentioned that is how the pork should be done. We were not impressed. Also our waitress seemed very inexperienced as she forgot to ask us for our drinks order and forgot to ask us how we would like our steak. Whilst the other food we had for Sunday brunch was good the service was very poor.

Great dinner! We had a good time, service was excellent, and the food and drinks good. There was no rush for the table, and pace of serving orders just right!

Venue set up a little bit late. Foods are good. Would like to have some melon with ham. The milk pot is not so user friendly, it dropped most of the milk on the table while pouring.

Great brunch selection at good price! Dont miss out on the parma ham at the buffet counter for brunch. Also, the daily happy hour from 3-7 is a good deal

Good service and tentative. Hard to find a nice lunch for that price point nowadays. Definitely would recommend this to other patrons. Salad bar was awesome
