I went for dinner with a friend, we both thought the food was very good and the service was quick and friendly. I would recommend it.
Food was delicious, service was great. It's a lovey authentic restaurant that's a hidden treasure. i would definitely go back and I. Had been before.
A very nice place inside, relaxed atmosphere and the food was delicious, definitely worth a visit! Will be back soon for sure, would like to sit downstairs next time :-)
Lunch deal is lovely and good value. Service was good, staff friendly. If having lunch on a warm day, try to get a seat away from the window at lunch time as the sun beats down making it very hot.
I had a thoroughly enjoyable eating experience! Excellent food and drink and the service was friendly, welcoming, and good fun. I will be returning in the near future
I have eaten here a lot of times, the food is always great and so are the margaritas. Staff were fantastic and accommodated our rowdy table. We all had a great time! :)
Mmmmm tasty and reasonably priced. Ate too much which just about says it all. Authentic straiforward good grub. Didn't give a 6 as the plates aren't large enough. And I mean that in the sense that there wasn't enough room on my plate for my food, which is a bug bare for me. Go, you won't be disappointed.
Started the evening with Margaritas, which were delicious. Food was good. Portions were large and everything was delicious. Staff were friendly and service very good. Will definitely be back.
Had an absolutely delicious meal and great atmosphere!! Definitely recommend the strawberry margaritas and beef fajitas and all the guacomole!! Staff were quite efficient and served us quickly!
Excellent, authentic Mexican dishes and drinks served by friendly staff in an a casual bistro setting making for a great evening. Quite small and popular so Best to book.
This is by far the best Mexican eatery I have ever been to, the food it top class, the service is excellent and the decor is really cool. It's only a 1min walk from the main train station in Edinburgh as well.
This is the 6th or 7th time I have been here and every time it has exceeded my expectations. Food was amazing and service was too class.
Booked for early evening dinner on a Sat night. Amazing food and fab service. Very reasonable prices and lovely atmosphere. Would definitely go back and would recommend to friends.
Viva Mexico has long been one of my favourite restaurants. Great service and authentic Mexican food. Tried the ceviche this time and it was excellent. We will be back!
Really great service and fab food. Super menu - lots of choice. Arrived just before opening time aimed and had to join the queue. Says it all really!
Really great food but they got one of the main course orders wrong, twice! Asked for beef got chicken, sent it back asked for beef, got pork, gave up and ate it anyway!! Would have been 6 if I'd got beef second time around.
Have been to this restaurant on several occasions with my wife and has always been amazing. We come from Newcastle and travel to Edinburgh specifically for this place.
Viva Mexico is an amazing resturaunt with amazing customer service. The food was absolutely fantastic. I recommend the chicken chimichanga and the nachos!! Highly recommend this resturaunt for all it is simply wonderful.
Great food, reasonable price and really nice staff who were really accommodating when I wanted to add another person to the table booking last minute. Would definitely go again
We come here every time we are in Edinburgh. Excellent food and service. Quality and quantity assured. The white fish croquettes and the re-fried beans are our favourite starters and for mains, the beef fajitas are better than anywhere else we've been. Try the dime bar dessert - absolutely fantastic. Lovely atmosphere but would have liked to hear Mexican music.
Lovely authentic food, well worth a visit when in edinburgh! Not to expensive but not cheap! Very good variety of authentic drinks along with cocktails
Met a friend here for dinner last Friday and we had a lovely evening. Great food and lovely staff. So close to Waverley too, so easy to get to. Can't wait to go back now.
Excellent really authentic Mexican. We had Cevich and Ribs for starter and shredded beef Tosdadas and chicken Flautist for mains. Very good and reasonably priced Margehritas.
Faultless Mexican food, don't expect anything ground-breaking but for the classics, you'll be happy with fajitas, burritos, enchiladas et al. Tasty house-made guacamole and salsa were good, portion sizes reasonable, drinks list decent.
nice enough atmosphere and surroundings. food bit hit and mix among our group. not as good as the reviews or as their website impression. thought £4 for a small bottle of san miguel was abit steep - maybe in scotland it isnt - but we thought so.
This was our second visit to Viva Mexico. Last time was for lunch which was excellent and this time for dinner. We both had the fajitas. One steak and the other chicken both were lovely, very tasty and plenty of. The staff were friendly & efficient. Will definitely return.
Overall ok. Not very spicy as you might expect from a Mexican. Ok, the standard burritos, enchiladas etc. have to cater for the majority but there were no obvious ways to spice it up, no additional sauces etc. offered with the meal. Mango smoothie was very good. Table was rickety (by the window) causing some drink spillage and took a while and a number of wedges to stabilise.
This is such a lovely restaurant (I have been here a few times and the food has been amazing). As a Mexican, it is difficult to find authentic food in Edinburgh, but usually Viva Mexico stands out. Unfortunately, this time the food was just okay. I had the pastor tostadas, which you are supposed to pick up and bite into, but the tostada itself was quite soft so couldn't be picked up... The starter of Plato Nacional was quite pricey for what we actually got (pretty much just tortilla chips and a couple bites of quesadillas for £8.50), and we waited almost 30 mins for our drinks order. I will come back as I love the place, and the waitress was very accommodating with my friend's allergy (though it's a bit ridiculous that we had to go back and forth about 5 times between our table and the kitchen because everything seemed to be deep fried in Soya oil...), but will try mid-week rather than Friday night.
This was another excellent meal served by friendly, helpful staff. We had travelled up by the Borders Railway for a day's walking, followed by a night out. This meant we both had bulky backpacks but there were no objections made, as at some restaurants I could mention. My husband stuck to his usual beef enchillada (why change a good thing is his attitude), while I tried the quesada grande with pulled pork. Both were delicious as usual. I don't often have a dessert, since the mains here are substantial, but I broke a habit and have to say that the pecan pie was melt-in-the-mouth. To quote Arnie, "I'll be back".
Excellent Restaurant, I have been several times and have never had a meal worse than great, I try to get to the restaurant as much as I can.
Great food, could fault it, party of 8 and we all got our food at the same time, and all of the girls said they would go back.
Nice meal with a small pitcher of Margarita. Always very good
Great food, brilliant ambiance! best chilli chocolate cheesecake around! excellent
I've been eating here for years & I've never been disappointed with the food or service. Great atmosphere as well.
Very good would come again good size of plates recommend
Booked for a Friday evening, Restuarant was busy a good sign. Had Very good and taste food, could have been a little hotter but that's personal taste. We are veggie and still had a good choice. Will definitely be visiting again
I visited Viva Mexico with my husband for our wedding anniversary. I used to live in Edinburgh and always loved this restaurant so, being back in town on a rare occasion, I had to see if it was still as good. I wasn't disappointed. The menu was broad, but simple enough to not confuse, and from the initial margarita through stuffed jalapeñas and quesada grande packed with shredded beef it just got better and better. I loved the atmosphere as well; bright decor, music that was not too loud and a casual feel made it a really enjoyable experience, which is often hard since I wear hearing aids. I would recommend Viva Mexico to anyone who likes to eat good, down-to-earth spicy food in a relaxing but fun atmosphere.
A little slow with service but great food and atmosphere. Each of us had food envy of the other and there was a small fight to share some leftover refried beans. Would definitely return.
Great food and staff. Will return on our next visit to Edinburgh. Would recommend this restaurant to friends. Great for veggie and gluten free meal.
Excellent food, drinks and service! Great atmosphere with friendly attentive staff. Menu has a wide variety of Mexican food to choose from. Delicious food and margaritas! Will be back!
Food was lovely. Service was great, very quick. Very friendly staff and helpful. Definitely recommend eating here. I will definitely be visiting again sometime soon.
Great food, sizzling prawns are delish. Lovely atmosphere and great choice on menu at reasonable prices.... had a slight dippy waitress, but overall good experience and will be back
Overall a really enjoyable dinner. Food was pretty good but service was really excellent and the venue is ace. We were initially seated in a room that became quite noisy when a couple of big parties arrived but the staff offered to move us to another room where it was easier to talk. They also gave us 10 % off the bill without us actually complaining or anything. Very accommodating - even though we only booked last minute online and they had to find us a table! Would definitely go back next time we fancy Mexican food in Edinburgh!
Great night at Viva Mexico. The service and food for the 10 of us was excellent. A nice place with friendly staff. As good as it was when we first went there around 30 years ago!
Food excellent with a great menu to chose from, very good service and a brilliant atmosphere. Will definitely be going back with friends very soon.
My family and I went to Viva Mexico on Sunday 6th December. I booked the table online and requested balloons or similar as decorations for the table as we were there to celebrate our daughters boyfriends 20th birthday. We were met with a lovely warm welcome and taken to our table which had a birthday boy banner hanging above!!! We were served quickly and the food was excellent. I couldn't fault anything. They had ran out of a particular dessert that one of our party asked for, but there was other choices. All in all - a very good evening.
The service and food was excellent. The only down side was that we were sat next to the window and door and it was rather cold. Would definitely return though.
Everyone in our booking party enjoyed their meals. The service was spot on. Viva Mexico is a great place to have get together with friends.
Excellent food at a good Price. Service was quick and Christmas menu was very different but good choices. Very good for children as well and our 9 year old liked lots of things from the menu.
Excellent food and service. Second time I have been in the last couple of weeks. Had 3 courses and all were great. Music was great as well.
