Authentic food and very tasty. Margaritas delicious although the salt on the rim was rock salt - very large and crunchy! Great little restaurant though. Friendly staff and good service.
Amazing food and great margaritas. Highly recommend as a new venture
Been lots of visits before. Service wasn’t great last night and food portions were smaller. Margaritas were average, sadly.
Generous portions of tasty Mexican food in a compact environment, with friendly welcoming service. Ceviche starter was enough for a main for my wife, but the burritos or chimchangas were more than satisfying for those of us with hearty appetites. Gets busy, so don't forget to book.
Good food, portions are big, lots of fresh veg, good atmosphere, nice staff
Excellent food as always. Great ambience! Had a great time
It was great waited a few minutes for table to be ready then the food came really quickly.
My friends and I had a lovely lunch and staff were very friendly
Great food, excellent service, good value too. Would definitely go back again.
Returned after 11 years and still as good as the first time. Back soon hopefully
Very tasty food - great atmosphere and service. Excellent !
The restaurant is in a very central, easy-to-get-to location in Edinburgh, about three minutes walk up from Waverley station. It's quite rustic in style, full of Mexican memorabilia. We sat upstairs, but most of the dining tables are actually downstairs in the basement. It's a good menu, and the food we had was very tasty indeed. The stuffed jalapenos starter was delicious, and the Enchiladas de Mole main course seemed to me to be just as a Mole should be. Portion sizes were generous to the extent that we didn't feel the need for dessert. The waiting staff seemed pleasant and the service was efficient but without us feeling rushed.
2nd visit to Viva Mexico. Nice central location. Food really good. Soup is really tasty - would recommend. Lunch menu is good value with nice choice.
Very nice meal and friendly staff, restaurant had a nice cosy feel and also had a larger room for bigger parties. Hopefully will return on our next trip here.
Sat at very drafty door despite being lots tables downstairs. Ordered chicken burritos which came with rice and refried beans in the side. Found it to be very dry and bland.. would not recommend!
What can I say... this is without a doubt, THE best Mexican restaurant in the whole of the UK that we have ever been to. I moved to London from California 5 years ago and have been on the search for the flavours I grew up on and no other Mexican restaurant has been able to meet my expectations. This place tastes like home. It is truly real Mexican food that you can tell is made with so much love and care. I would happily make the 5 hour train journey from London to Edinburgh just to have a meal here.
The food was excellent again. This is our fifth time here and we enjoy coming back and trying new items. So far nothing has been a disappoint.
Great food - and price - as ever and the busy restaurant always has a good buzz about it. Prompt, friendly service. Best chocolate chili cheesecake around!
The Food was amazing, generous portions too, lovely setting and attentive staff. Good cocktails and the atmosphere was good too. Table was slightly too small but that’s the only negative.
Food was good but a little slow with ordered drinks. Also unfinished carafe of wine was removed when clearing plates. Didn’t realise TIL it was too late.
Very nice but not as authentic as i would have liked. The staff were very friendly though. With so many restaurants to choose from in Edinburgh I think a little improvement is needed. Still with visiting though.
Great food in a unique setting for edinburgh. My compqnion had the fish tacos and could not stop talking about them. The chicken fajitas are amazing. I would highly recommend.
Had dinner with a group of friends last night and had not been in a while. Delicious food, lovely cocktails and friendly staff. Remains one of my favourite restaurants in Edinburgh!
Good selection of reasonably priced food and lovely frozen margaritas! Nice cosy atmosphere. Close to the Royal Mile. Friendly and attentive service. Would go again.
We came across this restaurant quite by chance whilst walking down Cockburn Street back in 1985. Since then we have visited many times, not as many as we would like as we no longer live in Edinburgh, and have never once, in all those years, been disappointed with the food or the service. We would recommend a visit to anyone as we are sure, if you like Mexican food, you'll love it.
My family and I had a lovely meal. The food was delicious and the service warm and friendly. This is our second visit in the last couple of months. We will be back!
It was excellent, nice timely polite service and great, tasty food from a good menu with plenty of options without being too big. Nice surroundings too.
Excellent food, top quality service and a lovely, relaxed and friendly atmosphere. I would definitely recommend a visit to Viva Mexico, and I'll certainly be returning myself!
Great ambience and fantastic service from friendly waiting staff. The food was delicious and freshly made. Great margaritas as always. Would highly recommend Viva Mexico for friends and family.

Great food, attentive staff. Brilliant dining experience. Every time we visit Edinburgh we go to Viva Mexico, best mexican restaurant around. Can't wait for our next visit
Fantastic food very tasty and good price highly recommend to any Mexican food lovers atmosphere good and fldrinks service very good will defiantly return too
Extremely nice staff, amazing food, great atmosphere and very close from train station conivent for short distance travel. Good pricing for starters, mains and dessert
Probably the best Mexican in Scotland. Authentic and very tasty! Service was amazing and the drinks were delicious as well. Great value for money and would highly recommend.
Friendly waitress. Quick to be seated. Drinks served fast. Food was excellent. No hanging about between courses. Nice place to eat. We’d definitely come back here. Recommend to others.
The food was good but we were disappointed in the service. The restaurant was quite busy but not overly so considering the time of year. Our main courses arrived before our starter and drinks, we had to then ask again about the starter before it finally arrived. It took 3 times of asking to finally get the bill. Very disappointing.
It was a lovely restaurant, the cocktails were lovely and was the starters but the main courses let it down. Fajitas were massive strips of onion and pepper which were nearly raw and the chicken had no seasoning, except for salt.
Two of the party liked their dish whilst the other 2 didn't like theirs. Drinks service was quite slow . The waiting staff on the whole however very pleasant.
We have been going to Viva Mexico for years now. Yesterday we were back after a years break and as always absolutely great! Delicious food, very nice service. Top marks!!:)
Really good tasty food. We were in a larger group and the food came out all at the same time and was hot. The only part that was a bit slow was the service for drinks orders - if this had been quicker there would have been more orders.
The food was absolutely amazing! We absolutely loved it! Never mind tasty margaritas and friendly & professional staff. Go and dine there, you'll love it!
food good service good decor good the only problem was seats were uncomfortable but we would probably consider going back again next time we visit Edinburgh
Friendly staff and good service. Nice surroundings, quiet as lunchtime but imagine lively atmosphere at night. Food was nice but not amazing. Would recommend for a group, good value for money.
Fantastic meal, very friendly and efficient staff. Wonderful atmosphere, beautifully presented restaurant. Love all the wee rooms. Had our meal booked for 6pm on a Friday night. Arrived a little early so wasn’t open yet. Wandered into a couple of nice shops nearby and by the time we got back to the restaurant there were already several diners sitting. We were welcomed as soon as we entered and taken to our table. Food was served very quickly despite how busy they were. Food was delicious! Sangria was lovely. Will definitely be back.
Awesome authentic atmosphere, lovely staff, incredible food and fantastic value. At last a reasonably priced bargain. Try the pecan pie or dime bar crunch cake.
We really liked this restaurant. The food and service was really good. We will definitely be back the next time we are in Edinburgh. Only thing I would like to see is beer on draft. Definitely recommended.
A great place to eat in the heart of the Old Town, food's good and service friendly without being pushy, nice line in tequila too.
Excellent food and service, but a review of the menu needed in light of the whole street food revolution possibly. Still a great place to eat in the heart of the old town
When you enter, you think it is a small restaurant, but downstairs, has a big space, well decorated, the food is tastefull, the staff is very atentious and the price is good also. I recomend
Really friendly staff and the food is extremely well made and full of flavour. No trip to Edinburgh is complete unless it includes a meal here.
