Our time at the Moat Tea Rooms was superb! The ambience of that 500 year old house was palpable. Service was perfect. I took my mother-in-law there who hadn't been since 2008. The last time she was there it was with her husband who has since passed. The staff gave us the privacy of an upstairs room where she could relive her time with Dad and we could celebrate his life. But regardless of whether you have memories to celebrate, or it's your first time, this venue is clean, comfortable, and historic! The food is delicious. You won't regret spending time at The Moat!
We arrived 15 minutes early but were shown to a choice of tables. The building was amazing with original features. The waiter was very friendly and took our order. I personally felt a little cold in the building but I don't think there was any heating on whilst there, my companions said they felt ok. It became quite busy while waiting for our order and the place did feel a bit warmer to me. The dining experience took me back to when my parents were alive because we always had bone china etc, although ours was all matching but I guess people break items and they are expensive to buy (it didn't spoil the experience). Tea from a teapot was new to my grandaughter, so many today have never seen a tea strainer, including her. I don't personally like tea but it was her birthday and she wanted to experience afternoon tea. I ordered cream tea, scones etc and my son who is gluten free said the scones were wonderful. In fact all the cakes had a lovely flavour and were delicious, I had a box to take the rest home as there were so many cakes over. I was offered a top up of hot water for the tea but my grandaughter had muscle pain and wanted to go home, so we did leave after 35 minutes. I was asked if everything was to our satisfaction afterwards and the bill was fair considering the ambience, quality of food and the service. I would recommend this place for a unique dining experience, I had honestly never noticed The Moat or shops surrounding it whilst shopping in Canterbury before.
Enjoyed an afternoon tea here. The highlights were the scones and choice of teas. Negatives, the place lacked atmosphere (some quiet music would really help), some of the smaller cakes served with the afternoon tea were a little dry.
Lovely tea house with delicious tea, and decent English menu. Enjoyed the atmosphere and time here
Delicious food paired with friendly service in an inviting, warm atmosphere!
We had a wonderful afternoon tea. A lovely setting with great food and service.
Lovely atmosphere but if you have mobility problems not a good choice as an old Tudor building with a lot of stairs. The staff are very attentive and friendly. Choice of tea and coffee extensive and food was good. The cakes are made on site and they are very good and large. Price is very good for portions received. Highly recommend.
Great time , nice service , and good products !
We weren’t very impressed as 2 members of our party had finished their sandwiches before the other 3 even got them. Had to wait a long time for them to arrive. However an apology was given.
Excellent definitely come again, than you so much. See you soon 👍
A lovely place for a traditional English tea, with friendly staff.
Very friendly welcome from the owner, and a delightful waitress. My request for a table, in a well lit area, was adhered to (partially sighted). It was a very warm and sunny day but the windows had been opened to allow a little light relief. Sandwiches, scones and cakes all fresh and tasty. A lovely afternoon, celebrating our friend's retirement. Thank you.
Wonderful place for afternoon tea. We have been here before, and will definitely return.
Very nice staff and food to match. No hot food at the time of the visit but the cakes and sandwiches were very tasty
Everything was outstanding! From the service to the quality of the teas and food — both the sweet and savory items were stellar!
Our young waitress was delightful. Attentive, funny, and engaging. She made the experience! The sandwiches were fresh and tasty. A few of the sweets were a bit dry. A little hidden gem in Canterbury.
The poor young girl was run off her feet running the restaurant, she was covering all the tables on her own and still smiling. Whoever owns that restaurant should be ashamed to put that on one poor girl. Until they employ more staff give it a miss.
Staff were very friendly. Would have been nice to have been asked for a top up on our tea.
Afternoon tea is tasty especially the cream. Table is a bit small though.
The food was good value for the money. The waitress was first class, very attentive and the service was spot on.
Was not the best afternoon tea we have had. The sandwiches and scones were good, but cake selection really undervalued it. They were bit dry and boring. Not like the lovely cakes they had on display downstairs. And there was a decided chill and on a wet day it was not very warm! Waitresses were nice and polite though.
Overall it was lovely but it was very cold. It would of been nice to have to log burner lit. Would of been nice to have the music on when we arrived and not towards the end of our Special Tea.
My family had a wonderful time at the Moat Tea Room. We read quite a few reviews of the Canterbury options for afternoon tea and decided on the Moat. We are very pleased that we did; there was a very large range of tea choices, our scones were amazing, and sandwiches were very filling. Definitely recommend!
Lovely quaint little tea room Great food at a great price
Our Afternoon tea was pleasant but wasn’t quite sure why I was charged £50.50 as after checking later it was meant to be £21.50 per person and there was 2 of us ?
Busy tea room and only two staff, apologised for wait and warn us about the wait when first went in. The food and Tea was worth the wait. Had special afternoon T, lovely fresh sandwiches, lovely scones and good selection of yummy cakes. Staff where amazing , very welcoming and chatty to all customer. we will be back.
A lovely place for an afternoon tea with delicious food and a great service.
My Husband and I had a delicious afternoon tea at The Moat Tearoom. The staff were polite and attentive and the delicious food with amazing. They have a huge range of freshly baked cakes and scones to choose from and a wide selection of loose leaf tea and coffee!!
Beautiful and friendly staff, food was delicious and worth every penny
Had a wonderful time, relaxing and able to take time for cream tea. Tasty and served on vintage china.
What a find 😊 lovely afternoon tea with homemade sandwiches, scones and cakes. The staff were extremely friendly and on hand to top up cups, cream and jam. Would definitely go back
Very good, but staff were unaware of the booking, but that made no difference to the service
Amazing, quirk tearoom. We were seated straight away and given a choice of where we would like to sit. Staff are lovely and were extremely attentive during our visit. They offer a wide variety of teas, coffees and yummy cakes on their menu, making it difficult to choose. But we went for an afternoon tea and could not fault the variety of foods. It was delicious.
Lovely high tea, cakes were delicious we will definitely come back very soon
Amazing afternoon tea. Very helpful and friendly staff. I will visit again next time I'm in Canterbury
