Another excellent visit to The Malt Shovel. Food as good as ever and friendly service. Taking friends for their first visit and they were very impressed!
Good food at reasonable price Nice menu choices, best Sunday lunch no rush relaxed dining, couple of good ales and Spanish white wine was of reasonable value. Nice location for a great walk just got back before closing at 6 little disappointing could have stayed all night
superb food and excellent service will be going more often our french visitors were really impressed one of our friends is a chef in paris and he was also impressed with the menus
Lovely venue, food excellent. Enjoyed the pre lunch walk around the estate. Attentive staff who explained the menu very well. Will be returning very soon.
Super personal service fantastic food have booked to go again you won't find better food and presentation locally .can't say good enough comments about this lovely quaint local public house
First time at the Malt Shovel and we all will return, great food and at ok prices. Staff extremely efficient and friendly and knowledgeable a pleasure to spend an evening where time passes so quickly.
My fIrst time back here in many years. The place looks lovely and with wonderful food, welcoming hosts, great service and fantastic value for money we will certainly be recommending to others and returning ourselves.
The food was excellent. The service a little slow but I think they were a bit short staffed. Very friendly. Really enjoyed it last night.
The Malt Shovel lived up to its excellent reputation. The food ( very important) was first class with service (almost as important) to match. Compared to other local establishments a little more expensive, but in my opinion well worth it. We will most definitely visit again.
Great food but service slow. Waitress lovely but had a lot to do. Waited a long time to eat. Table at 7.30 main course not till 9.15 which was a shame as it spoils the fact food was good.
Outstanding food (BBQ rib starter, Chicken Saltimbocca main), reasonable prices, a great atmosphere, and friendly staff. Overall, a great place for a relaxed night out with friends.
This lunch was a celebratory one for us! It was wonderful. Interesting wine list , delicious starters, queen ie scallops, crayfish with avocado. The main courses were just the thing for a summer lunch, Whitby crab salad. Just to ensure that we would be utterly replete, deserts, rhubarb crumble and a totally Devine lemon posset, double espressos.........and a long, long walk with the dog! Return visit? You bet, on my birthday!
Great food in very traditional but modern surroundings. Staff were very attentive and cheerful. All in all a lovely experience. We plan to go back.
Good food and friendly service. The Malt Shovel is consistent whether menu or specials with enjoyable wines. Gluten free and non alcoholic beer available. Recommended.
We had excellent food and the staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient. Service for the main course was on the slow side, but it was busy whilst we were there.
Starter of crayfish salad/ cocktail was average but my wife enjoyed the fishcakes. Mains were tasty but for those with a medium sized appetite suggest that additional side orders of vegetables are ordered. Cheapest bottle of wine was more than £19. House wines in other restaurants in the area are circa £16. The service, look and feel of the place and atmosphere were good although I would think that tables near the entrance would be cold from a draft when the door is opened in winter. Overall reasonable value but not the best in the area - we are likely to visit again.
Excellent service and food. Efficient and timelt service . Lovely interior and atmosphere. Will is a first rate manager, who I have long experience of over a number of local eateries.
The food was good but the service slow due to only 2 at the front of house we understood that but we will definitely go again but probably earlier in the week and not on a Friday/weekend
Great food and friendly service. Will definitely return! Nice beer garden at the back and plenty of parking. Lovely Sunday roast, really nice vegetables! We will be back
Nice, quiet ambiance, simple food cooked really well and excellent service. Having been weekly regulars perhaps 20 years ago or so, we came full circle and returned, to an upgraded village pub, well cooked food again at a reasonable price and a warm welcome. Managers, please respect and appreciate your staff! They may prove to be invaluable. Many thanks, Bart Blok
Nice place. Great food, lovely atmosphere but time taken to serve the food was also very relaxed. Perhaps it was a mid-week scenario, but nevertheless worth a visit.
Lovely relaxed atmosphere with unobtrusive but friendly smiling staff. Excellent Sunday Roast Beef but too much on the plate- would have preferred vegetables served separately!! Would definitely come here again as we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Thank you.
Not been for a few months but still great varied good choice and good service. Friendly and nice atmosphere as always. Food was excellent super steak and my wife was lucky enough to get the lobster Thermidor which she'd highly recommend. Prices reasonable given quality and choice highly recommended.
Good atmosphere supported by friendly /helpful staff . A good choice menu and very tasteful food . All in all a very enjoyable experience .
Enjoyable meal in pub. The service was very good, the pub itself was clean and well organised, the beer was well kept etc. Fair value.
We had a very good meal in pleasant surrounding with very attentive service. We have been many times before and will certainly be going back.
Wonderful evening with friends served by great staff and service. Great food and wine. Will be returning for more fun and frolics. All in all a wonderful dining experience.
Every thing was very good as soon as we walked in we were made to feel so special .The staff were very good and were very patient with my elderly mother .All the meals we ordered we're fantastic the best for me was the deviled kidneys. Thanks to everyone for a wonderful evening.
A great experience, good food, great staff and a nice selection of beers. Overall a great meal, well worth a visit if you fancy a treat.
Great pub food, really well cooked, even the peas had texture! Excellent service, friendly staff, Devote and ambiance just right Brearton very nice village too
Great food and friendly service. Varied and interesting menu at good value prices. Lovely country pub with lots of history and bags of ambience. Recommended.
The Malt Shovel, tucked away in a small hamlet, is a characterful place worthy of any magazine shoot. The menu and specials board are always interesting and well thought out. The staff are friendly and efficient attentive too. We have been previously but have not visited for a while and it was a welcome return. We will not be leaving it so long again! We both had a starter from the Specials Board - lemon smoked salmon - superb Both of us had steaks which were tasty and plentiful - I cannot highly recommend The Malt Shovel enough - give it a try
Excellent Sunday lunch. Place with genuine character and really nice young staff. The food is great too. Good value and will go most certainly go again.
An excellent meal - the food really was delicious - and very friendly service. We enjoyed our evening very much and look forward to visiting again in future.
Great food and service. Lovely pub with plenty of character. Staff very attentive. Will be a great stop for a Summer walk when out and about.
One of my fav local spots and food was amazing as usual. Staff were friendly and nice although not the usual team. Only complaint was that the service was extremely slow, slowest I've ever had and it wasn't as good as my previous experiences which have always been 6/6 so just a watch out that your exceptional standards don't slip! Thanks again for a great evening though. K
The food was superb unfortunately our main courses were delayed by the arrival of a large celebration party whose food [obviously already booked] took precedence. The only other disappointment was the position of our table which was close to the bar and near the constant stream of the waitresses and the party goers replenishing their drinks. Not the best position to celebrate my sister's 90th birthday. Having said that, we enjoyed the meal and the staff were very pleasant.
Our first visit and it was a delicious Sunday lunch experience 😁 We will definitely come again. And all in a lovely tranquil village setting!
Food was lovely although we felt that the prices were quite high. The quality and taste were there though. The pub had a nice feel to it and the staff were friendly and welcoming.
Excellent. good food. great service. nice atmosphere. couldn't be better.. I would certainly recommend The Malt Shovel to anybody and we will definitely be going back.
Food was lovely a good choice of meals, with great service and friendly and helpful staff. Was warm and cosy inside will definitely visit again.
We were a party of five. The food and service were very good. The choice of specials that were available on the evening were very good.
They went above and beyond to make sure mu husbands needs were met, all with a smile on their faces. Food was brill too x
Good food and excellent service in a quaint village pub. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will certainly return for the next family occasion. Thank you.
Absolutely marvellous! Food exquisite, ambience delightful, service brilliant ! Would totally recommend this pub. Rhubarb gin was also very good! Can't wait to go back .
Lovely food good service nice atmosphere - will go again. Very loud people on table next to us but you can't have everything! Very nice experience apart from that and good value - especially set menu
Fantastic ambiance and inviting on arrival. Attentive service with an eclectic menu for all. Delicious wholesome food with a touch of class throughout. Highly recommended.
Met up with friends for lunch and used the Set Lunch menu. Food excellent, well prepared and presented. Staff attentive and friendly. Good ambience with fire blazing - even though it's April it was very cold outside! Able to sit and chat for 2 hours with no pressure to move. Parking easy (behind pub). Had considered meeting in Harrogate - this was so much easier. Excellent value.
Waited 50 minutes for out main course. Of 2 table bookings we should have been given priority over walk in customers. Three meals were excellent but 2 were bland. We were given discount which was appreciated. Just disapointed as it was a special day and businesses should prepare for upsurge in footfall.
A good meal with very pleasant staff in a pub which we hadn't visited for many years. Unfortunately the menu shown on the web site was quite different from what was on offer at the Malt Shovel
