Lovely village pub with great food and service fantastic highly recommend.
Enjoyed it so much we booked to go back again tomorrow
The food was excellent and service great will visit again
Friendly, excellent ale, a good selection of food. We shall return.
Great food. Gluten free fish and chips. Not greasy at all. Thanks.
Had to wait over an hour for the food, and high noise level as we ate it, as there was a band playing from 9.00 pm. The table was pre booked for 19.15 hrs as well.
Fantastic food, fantastic atmosphere. Really lovely local pub and we'll definitely be back.
We had a very pleasant lunch. The restaurant had a good atmosphere. Was not too busy at the time we were there. The food was excellent as was the service. Will definitely visit this pub again.
Great service, we were made very welcome. Food was exactly what we wanted. Many thanks.
Every member of staff was so polite and really good at their jobs. Food amazing and well over portioned. Looking forward to coming tomorrow.
This was our 5th visit to the Malt Shovel and once again we could not complain about anything, the service, food etc are always of a very high standard.
We all enjoyed our meals, good surroundings, and we had an enjoyable time.
Easy to book a table on line (as long as the group is 6 people or fewer). Excellent service on arrival, wait time for food was reasonable.
The staff were very helpful. & pleasant -Daisy served us she was lovely. The service was excellent!
Excellent meal again- we meet up with friends from Abingdon ( each couple travels an hour to get to the Malt Shovel). We have met up a few times now at the Malt Shovel. Staff are friendly, professional and welcoming . There is an excellent choice of food and we all had an excellent meal- would highly recommend.
Fabulous service and a great new menu . The Meze sharing board was delicious followed by a lovely homemade pizza . Love this country pub lovely atmosphere and great customer service.
Booking was easy using Quandoo. Delicious food that was freshly cooked. Service was prompt and efficient. The staff were all friendly, polite and efficient. We appreciated that a jug of water was offered and refill available, all without asking. Would definitely recommend eating here and hope to return.
As good as always with friendly staff and great food
Lovely lunch on the terrace in the sunshine. Quality, tasty food and lovely, friendly and efficient staff. Will be back soon.
Lovely place with lovely food. Great staff and friendly atmosphere
The food was gorgeous, although my chips on the 'Chip Shop Board' where a little too salted and had lost their delicious crips, it was tasty nonetheless.
Really nice time, thank you very much for a lovely meal
Meet up of family in between locations. Great place to do this. Food was excellent, the waiter could not have been better. We have been before and looking forward to going again later in the year.
everything except the lamb cutlets was great - just the lamb was very chewy and the steak knife wasn't strong enough
A Sunday evening visit - good food at fair price.
Thanks so much, staff were so lovely and friendly, food great. We really enjoyed our (first) visit.
Our first visit to the Malt Shovel. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was excellent. I would recommend and well be visiting again.
The staff very kindly found us a table in the bar area because our guests insisted on bringing their dog with them (& dogs understandably not allowed in the restaurant). The table was great, the staff wonderfully attentive & friendly and the food/drink were excellent, however the bar was busy with a few loud individuals - but, it is a pub, so no complaints!
Unpleasant to have the tv on directly above our table. Very noisy in the bar area, difficult to hear conversations at our table. Food was good quality but very limited options available and large portions - only burger and chips offered as vegetarian option. Serving staff were friendly and gave a warm welcome
Awesome atmosphere, very good food, we had a wonderful time.
Very tasty Sunday lunch with gluten free options and good beer
Service was very friendly and efficient. The food was delicious and interesting. Thoroughly recommend eating here.
Wonderful mushroom starter and great roast dinner with good choice of ale
We had a family lunch over the weekend, the choice was excellent and portion size generous, desserts in particular. Our lovely waitress couldn't do enough to make sure we had everything we needed, including crayons and colouring sheets for the 5 year old ..it should've been busier, well worth a visit. We will go again.
Everything was great but do you really need a muted TV on? Half way point between us and relations so will visit again (if not in line of sight of offending TV) :)
A lovely country pub with lovely food and excellent service
Great food, great service, beautiful setting and decor. Kept the kids entertained too 👌🏻
Enjoyable family catch up despite it being St.Patricks day. Food as always well presented and delicious. Would appreciate wider choice of bitters including a weaker one ! Would visit again, as halfway between Hertfordshire and Shropshire.
Great service, lovely food. Nice atmosphere and a warm friendly pub.
Greeted very cheerfully, and a nice table had been reserved for us. We enjoyed a very pleasant lunch in nice surroundings. The food was tasty, fresh and well cooked
Extensive menu. Lovely staff. Good quality food. Warm and welcoming
Delicious food, lots to choose from. Very friendly service Excellent value for money
We felt really well looked after on Mother's Day. Although really busy they were very attentive.
Excellent food and service. Would definitely recommend The Malt Shovel.
Firstly, my waitress was great. But my drink order took 15 mins to arrive and food took nearly 50 mins to arrive. It was busy, but as all tables were reserved, it would have been obvious it was going to be a busy night. They definitely need more staff. Also, I know it's a family pub, but there were little kids running outsid, then inside, then outside, then inside... it would be nice to enjoy a relaxing meal...which is what I went for.
First visit, service was excellent, we arrived early and were seated straight away. Food options were varied. We were left for the perfect amount of time to decide on our food choices. Food was decent. We were checked on to ensure everything was ok. Was reasonably busy creating a good buzzy atmosphere. We were acknowledged again on leaving. Thank you all who looked after us today. Only downside was the cockatoo slightly noisy.
Lovely pub, with very friendly staff, and great food. Wish we lived nearer. Special shout out to John and Ellie for their great service.
The Malt Shovel is a lovely pub with great food and fab staff.
The service was excellent The owners were very attentive and helpful The food was amazing
Lovely atmosphere and attentive staff However my steak and ale pie turned out to be chicken and cheese!!!
