Food is great and staff are lovely. But you are crammed in like sardines. We reserved a table for two and it was like they just dropped a table next to bar.so when drinks were being taken to tables was jostled chair kicked all while trying to eat. Just a nightmare. It's such a shame have been going to jolly for more than 40 years. Don't know what this was all about cramming tables in they way they had

Love coming here. Great place for a pre theatre menu if going to the Playhouse. Vito is a character & lovely owner. Been coming here since the 80s.

Buzzing on a Thursday evening. Very good value for pizza and wine. Starters less good but ok. Recommended. Great for pre- theatre at the Playhouse.

Fantastic as always, Vito and the guys did well to feed all 11 of us but we wouldn’t expect any less. We’re often in for lunch so don’t often see the full menu, a great selection on it.

It's old school, delicious Italian food with a pizza menu that never ends! The starters huge and very tasty, the mains just as good. The bill was absolutely astounding value for money especially with crafts of house wine flowing. Great service, attentive but not too much i.e they don't ask how the food is when you've just put food in your mouth! Busy little place come 6pm so I'm glad we booked a table and people walking in all very familiar with the owner so everyone chatting away like you were in someone's living area rather than a restaurant which I believe is what an Italian restaurant strives to achieve. Reading other reviews, yes the decor is dated but so what, we're not eating the décor and I think it makes The Jolly unique rather than a run of the mill chain that has the same decor no matter what country you are in but that doesn't matter (in my opinion) when you have quality food at a good price, service and atmosphere.

Garlic bread had no garlic and was hard but they did not charge me for it which was really the right thing to do and appreciated. Main meal of chicken and veg with a lovely gravy/sauce was very good. Wait staff very nice

We had a great time at The Jolly as usual. The Half and Half (½ pizza, ½ pasta) was huge. The desserts were so nice too, plus After Eights and a lollipop as we went out the door.

First went to The Jolly in the mid-80s. Pizzas were great then and they still are. Great wood-fired taste and deliciously crisp. Should have had the minestrone rather than the antipasto though. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Edinburgh centre.

Very welcoming family run Italian. Food and service was great. Big portion sizes. Take a trip to the bathroom for a trip down memory lane for the restaurant. If your looking for a friendly, family feel that’s a bit quirky with good humour eat here :-) Great fun and tastes good.

Canteen food. Garlic bread not garlic. Salads not Italian. Soup not chicken creme. Pizza and pasta good. Risotto made with long grain rice WTF! Fruit with ginger wine had only a sugary taste with no flavour. Disappointing.

Fabulous experience, homely Italian cooking , nothing fancy just filling and cheap. Great atmosphere and pleasant staff.Decor is dated but quirky and stuck in the 70's .... hope it remains that way.... all part of its appeal!

Very retro restaurant, loved it. But, my soup was not hot, more under warm. The main course heat wise was warm. The food itself was exceedingly good for a lunchtime menu of under £7.00. I chose liver and bacon and the liver was cooked to perfection. This restaurant needs to keep its retro flavour. Get dishes hot. Not use frozen veg. It’s soup was homemade, and tasted yummy, my liver dish was amazing. The pears were good too. Could have done with ice cream. But remember this was under £7.00 . Tell them keep the he good work up! With the food places round it hem they could do a amazingly. I am a local

This quaint restaurant has a 70s feel about it. The walls are decorated with Italian views. The place mats are famous Edinburgh landmarks. Vito, the Man, is a great guy. The two young waitresses had a lovely manner. For value for money, superb grub!

First time we have been here for lunch. We were looking for somewhere to eat at the start of our holidays when my wife remembered that they did a set 3 course lunch for £6.50 so given that we love their a la Carte menu we did not think ml this was a gamble. 3 garlic bread starters 3half pizza half pasta mains and 3 ice cream plus 3 pepsi colas all for under £25.00 what's not too like.
