Such delicious food! Really cool atmosphere. Loved our time there
We loved the place, the tasty food and the service. We will definitely be back. Very conveniently located by Cannon St station too. Thank you!
Really great experience - friendly waiters and delicious food! Will definitely return here again in the future as well as recommend it to City friends.
Really nice venue and service. Food was great and considering how busy it was, it was all managed very well. Love the subterranean environment, friendly staff.
Very good staff care and customer experience. Everyone enjoyed the food - it was fresh, of a high standard and full of flavour. The atmosphere and layout of the place is a welcome change from the mundane sterile make-up of a lot of the central London restaurants. I would recommend this place to others. Worth a visit.
This was my first time there and it definitely will not be my last. service was great as was the food which was good quality. I tried the express lunch and this was exceptional value for money. next time (soon) I will go full menu.
All 6 of us would say that we had a fantastic meal, once again. We as a group, or separately will definitely visit again soon.
I honestly never wrote reviews but I had a terrible experience but I feel obliged to warn other food lovers to avoid this place at all costs. The food was way below average, possibly the worst Indian food I've ever had (I've had a fair few in my lifetime), the service was on par with the low quality of food - we waited 45mins for our mains to come out, only to find that they got our order completely wrong. They were persistent in trying to encourage me to eat the wrong dish, after a few attempts they gave up and offered to make me a new main, which also took 30mins to be prepared and was also wrong and tasted horrible. No offer was made to keep my sides warm (rice, naan bread etc...) so I ended food which had gotten dry and cold from the long wait. No apologies given and what really annoyed me was that I was still forced to pay in full - no discount was or removal of items was offered to make up for the time i had lost of terrible experience i had.
Went for lunch and had the express menu, the choice of dishes was varied enough and the price was ok for a City of London based restaurant. The food was tasty and the portions were a good size, the main dish came with rice and a naan bread whereas most places give you one or the other with the lunch time menu. Left feeling full and happy so no complaints. The staff were polite and friendly and the basement setting was different. Would go back again to try the main menu.
I have been dining at 'The India' and its predecessor the 'Cannon Street Tandoori' for the past 16 or 17 years and have rarely, if ever, been disappointed. This has been particularly so under 'The India' banner, with the management and staff, both in the kitchen and front of house, offering an even greater quality and consistency to their clientele. I have introduced a lot of satisfied friends and colleagues to the India and my wife rates their Peshawari naan as one of the best, as do I and between us we have a pretty broad Bangladeshi/Indian/Pakistani restaurant dining experience, from the low end to the high end. I just visited The India for the first time in six months, having retired earlier this year and given I now live three hours away in Dorset, that should tell you all you need to know about my opinion of the India and its staff!
Again the food was amazing as with the service. Always accommodating with off the menu items and time from ordering to food on table is good to enjoy over lung.
Normally gave a great curry at The India but went for dinner there last night and the food was so bland I was scraping the source off the chicken to make it taste better - very disappointing! I have recommended The India numerous times but based on my latest dining experience I'll think twice.
Great food great service - love eating at this Indian restaurant. Always order the mixed started platter and lamb dishes for the main - very tender meat!
The food was amazing one of the best Indian restaurant I have been too. The staff are so friendly and polite. I will go again and again.
Food was good. Nice ambience and nice service. Will add into my list of good Indian restaurants in central London. quick service as well. ****
fantastic restaurant, I really love the Naan, and the environment in the basement, where I could talk with my friend. She loves this place very much, keep this up.
Excellent service, food and venue as always! Food is always cleverly presented and very tasty / lunchtime special menu works very well. We'll be back again soon!
As always we had a great meal. We went in a small group this time and tried different things than usual, the lamb chop starters are well worth a go. We'll be going back.
I went at lunch time on a work day. The food was good and reasonably priced. Service was prompt and courteous. Thali specials highly recommended.
Great setting, fantastic food and service and all for a very reasonable price. I will definitely be making a return visit in the near future.
A team meal last night (23rd May) for a leaving do. Great food as ever, restaurant was surprisingly busy even though it was a Tuesday which says a lot I think :)
Good service and good food. Location is good for lunch in the city between meetings. Staff are friendly and attentive. Definitely recommend for a good Indian meal.
Great food and brilliant service. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming. Food came out on time and was really tasty. love how it's underground too, very unique and well suited.
This is a great venue, especially for those based in the city. The food is of high quality and there is a good range of dishes to choose from. Overall the service and food was excellent.
Great for a large group. Good food all round, but main courses were definitely more impressive than starters. Although very friendly, the service was slow at times.
Understaff, waited at the reception upstairs for more than 10 mins and no one attended to us, should have at least place something to alert. Authentic Indian foods and service qualities are good.
Great food, good service and good value for money. I would visit again. For the city the restaurant is a great find that caters for all tastes be it very hot or mild.
When our party arrived at the restaurant we were surprised that they had no record of our reservation, not sure where the fault lay, but they were still able to accommodate us so not a big problem. The restaurant is quite quirky, set underground in alcoves. Service was very attentive with the waiter helping advise on starters. Food came quickly and was as tasty as I remembered from previous visit. Everyone in our party enjoyed the food and it was all very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend.
the look of the restaurant was very cute and romantic, the food was absolutely delicious! the staff was also very friendly...we will definitely go to this restaurant again.
Excellent food, really friendly staff. Great Atmosphere. Would definitely visit this place again. The Chicken Madras and naan breads are my favourite. Many Thanks. x
The 2-course lunch set menu is excellent value. I very much enjoyed the chicken tikka masala, which was delicious. The staff were very friendly and efficient
Nice table and food was good. Waiting staff were friendly and were able to accommodate all of our needs. We were given a table away from the main crowd which was nice as it felt private!
Good food in an intimate space - waiters were attentive without being overbearing. would definitely visit again. site wants me to enter 25 words min so blah blah blah blah
Welcoming staff Fantastic food Convenient location Tasteful decor Good for business lunches Good for business dinners Strong wine menu - standard beer choices One negative - they don't accept Amex
The India has an incredible atmosphere in addition to amazing food at a good price. While un-assuming from the street, just a small storefront, a staircase down upon arrival leads you into a candle lit barrel vaulted cellar space that is the restaurant. Great for a date, celebratory dinner, or evening out with friends. Small portions of the entrees are good for sharing with some naan and rice. The staff also take great care in their service and are incredibly friendly. Highly recommended if you are looking for a great Indian restaurant experience in central London.
Absolutely excellent - great food and service. Always love the atmosphere in this restauarant and they really look after you. Will return again and again.
Good food, nice atmosphere, overall good experience. No draft beer but reasonable selection of bottles. good variety of traditional Indian dishes. Location is in a basement to no cell service.
The settings were nice and the staff were very very good the only downside was the Lamb they need to find a way to get it more tender it was hardly edible due to it being so hard but the flavours were good so with the Lamb it just seemed like a waste but overall we enjoyed the evening.
i wasn't overall impressed with the food. Paneer Tikka could have done with more flavour, veggie platter wasn't as good as expected. Very low ceilings
Brilliant, authentic food and great service, come every New Year's Eve and it doesn't disappoint. Waitors put the extra effort in for their customers !
From Reception to coffee at the end of the meal the staff attention was friendly, cheerful and overall excellent. The food was delicious and did not disappoint. Like Arnie, "We will be back"!
The food was delicious BUT on arrival we were told that we only had 90 mins at the table (this was not communicated before). I also paid a £100 deposit that they denied all knowledge off. As this was a team night out it was disappointing that it was rushed and marred with rude staff. We had previously held a Christmas party there and stayed and drunk post dinner but by the time we had finished our mains they were ushering us out. We won't spend our money there again.
Must be the best Indian in the City. I have been here many times over the years and it has always been very good. Give it a try.
Food very nice but VERY expensive for what we had. Good service (if a little slow at times); friendly staff but overly expensive at £37 per head for a meal.
Stale food, poor service and rude waiters. Didn't like it at all. Avoid at all costs. There are plenty of other good Indian rests nearby, try them.
Overall it is a good experience. Right from receiving, allocation, items explanation, delicious and guality of service. We had drinks very good. But desserts don't have much options.
Nice place. Nice staff. 20th century food. And tikka needs to be served on a hot plate to keep the flavours sizzling. But anyways why offer such ordinary food in the wealthiest neighbourhood in the UK?
If you haven't been here before then you must go, tucked away just off Cannon Street....Food is fantastic, Good value for money, Service is good food always hot, glass never empty....
The Express lunch menu was value for money, offered a great selection of starter and mains and was, as usual at The India, absolutely delicious.
Love this place. The food is so gorgeous. Always comes out piping hot with very fair portions. The staff are so attentive. I look forward to returning.
