Great Sunday lunch, very relaxed atmosphere, and welcoming lovely staff.
Our lunch was very good. The service was also very good
A really beautiful place with such great food I will return
Great service. Quiet when we walked in but got busier. Great food too! Would definitely recommend!
Really nice and cozy pub with great and friendly staff!
Great staff. Good food. Nice atmosphere. I recommend their fish.
Fantastic food and great service. We really enjoy our lunch. Thanks to Kay and the team.
This is one the best full English breakfast I tried in London. I’ve been at least 7 times, staff professional and friendly, dogs allowed and food delicious!!
I had taken a walking food tour on Saturday and we stopped at The English Restaurant for bread pudding. It was so good and the atmosphere was so inviting that I had to go back on Sunday morning for a proper English breakfast. I was not disappointed. The food was excellent and the service outstanding. The staff made me feel very welcome.
A fantastic menu and the food was delicious. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Will definitely eat here again.
Charming, laid back and lovely food. Couldn’t have asked for more
Very pleasant and historical surroundings and also well-informed and kind staff.
Food great. Bread pudding honestly to die for. Wait staff lovely.
Very good food. Personnel is friendly and quick in serving
Consistently good as always! Toilets could do with a renovation probably
Great food and service, Sea Bream portion was a bit small
We arrived having booked for lunch with friends from Australia. Before our friends even arrived we were told that the restaurant was closing because there was a problem in the kitchen! We weren't even offered a drink in compensation and had to go and find another place to eat. Not happy at all!!
Brilliant as always. Superb food, atmosphere and service. Staff wonderful. Great range of wines, beers and cocktails. The oysters alone are worth going for. Gorgeous traditional place.
The service and food were excellent. but it was a little bit chilly. The ambiente is fabulous, too. Just we imagine an english restaurant .
Cosy and friendly, it’s just a nice place to be. A bit on the pricey side for the fare offered, but the leek and potato / bacon soup is worth every penny :)
Food & service fine but they didn’t know that we were coming. Fortunately, restaurant was not busy. It was however, slightly embarrassing for me as I had booked for two people for a treat.
Excellent food, great service, reasonably priced and all in a lovely venue. . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Nice ambience. Overall the food was well received by all in our party. Set menu price reasonable. Extensive wine list. Would recommend to friends and would go back.
Really good lunchtime experience. Good food, prompt but not rushed service, friendly staff who looked after our group very well, lovely old establisment with warm atmosphere, great location. Would definitely go there again.
Had high hopes for the English restaurant but was sorely disappointed. Slow and inattentive service. Sub standard food. A disappointing experience for such a lovely venue.
Another memorable evening - such evocative and authentic atmosphere food prepared with care originality and panache .warm old fashioned/ stylish . Service is outstanding- they always remember what we drink
We love going here, such a historic building with wonderful ancient atmosphere. Great Food, Great staff always look forward to a visit at this wonderful restaurant
This restaurant offer cosy wooden interiors with private booths allowing better conversation , interesting, tasty food, in reasonable sized portions, and all of it made the better for being washed down with Trumans beer - well done to the establishment for supporting local breweries, even if the wine is all French!
The English Restaurant is very cosy for brunch to catch up with friend. We had a booth so very private and enjoyed the food. My friend's poached eggs were initially over-cooked but they replaced them very professionally and service was good. Will recommend to friends and will go again for nice weekend brunch.
A great atmospheric restaurant. Good service and lovely food. Just opposite Spitalfields market. Very highly recommended. Beautiful older world features throughout . You feel like Charles Dickens could walk through the door
Loved it. Food was great service great would go again
Good English food and the staff gave us knowledgeable help in choosing our wine
Service very good but certain items on menu not available. Three of us ordered strudels but only they only had two left. However prices are reasonable and Sunday roast very enjoyable.
A great restaurant, really traditional, warm cosy and great food. We had brunch which is served until 12 oclock which is a bonus. Would thoroughly recommend for Breakfast, Brunch, Afternoon tea and Dinner
A gorgeous little place and really delicious coffee. Pretty bad food all round though - went for brunch and it was cold and partly inedible...
Great food and great service. Would definitely recommend it to anybody
Really Nice restaurant Good eat and good personel Thanks Remi
Fabulous and friendly service, delicious food and warm convivial surroundings in our own private banquette. We all agreed we would return. Maybe for the famous breakfast!
A more authentic version of Rules, this restaurant has an eclectic mix of customers from Shoreditch Hipsters to suited and booted City types. Excellent quality English cooking in authentic period surroundings. Recommended.
Great venue, superb food and service. Will go there again when we are in London.
A really nice independently run restaurant in a lovely old building. We enjoyed the food, the service was lovely and the wine list interesting with several good vintages at an extremely reasonable price.
The food was reasonably good but the service was terrible. We were left waiting for a long time before we were brought menus and there was a long gap between the starter and the main. When my partner tried to order a second glass of wine he was ignored and finally just stopped another waiter. The glass of wine did not arrive then for a very long time. To top it off they got our bill wrong, overcharging by £5. On the plus side the Christmas style dishes of goose and and turkey were tasty. I found the pumpkin soup a bit tasteless but my partner said his devilled whitedbait was very good.
Attentive staff and tasty readable priced food. Staff put us in a booth as requested. The wine recommendation was excellent and not overly expensive and the whole meal bar some undercooked Brussels was delicious.
Went for breakfast -- good food, good atmosphere. Echo others that the coffee is exceptional.
arrived 1 hour late to a place with warm feeling and friendly patient staff. afternoon tea was nice. thanks to all at the English Restaurant.
Busy & fun restaurant. Impressive wine list, great menu that changes to reflect the seasons. We really think this is one of London's special dinning opportunities!
Delicious! Very enjoyable afternoon at The English Restaurant; would recommend and would go back.
Excellence food, friendly service with a smiling face. Five of us ate very well for £140.00
Had the Sunday roast. Classic and perfectly done. With very pleasant engaging service. Also THE best coffee in the City
