Had table booked for 8pm, bar very busy, we were shown straight to our table thinking we would order drinks from table...we didn't get drinks until 8.30!! Which we didn't think was very good..food was average..they should prioritize diners with drinks ..then got asked to move later in the evening so they could set table for breakfast 😏

Brilliant buzzy, but grown up atmosphere. Fantastic food with attentive but not overbearing staff. The place is old but has been renovated and is classy but still retains its character, Love this place for just a drink or a full celebratory meal.

Atmosphere and overall presentation of the pub is good. Food was very nice, but the service let it down. I wouldn't say it was the busiest Friday I've seen (about half the tables were full). We asked for side plates with our starters, they didn't turn up before they came to clear the table (good job we weren't waiting), asked for napkins with the main, 5 mins later still no napkins and had to ask again. Dessert menu took nearly 10 mins to arrive after asking and when the bill was presented, no body came back to take payment so we ended up taking ourselves to the bar on the way out. When we asked about items on the menu the waitress didn't seem knowledgeable on the menu - We asked if the chicken liver moose was a moose or a pate and she wasn't sure. Nor did she know what the pistachio crumb was like. It wouldn't put us off going back because the food more than made up for the service. But there's definitely room for improvement. And just as a personal side note, please get rid of the awful Black Rat cider, if you're only going to have 1 Apple cider option make it a good one!!

Luckily it didn't matter to us today but the service was veeerrryyy slow. Luckily we had put 3 hours in the car park....and we needed it. Unfortunately [because we recommended Duke William] the wife of our guest had to send her meal back. A bit embarrassing.

The Duke William is a fabulous, cosy, pub/restaurant in a great location not far from the Castle and Cathedral on Bailgate. The staff are friendly and helpful. We had drinks there on Saturday night and Sunday lunch the next day. Would definitely return!

We had a lovely meal at the Duke William. The place was buzzing which shows the popularity of the place even though temperatures outside were bitterly cold. Recent renovations have made great improvements, and peering outside to the courtyard we intend to go back for a lunchtime visit in the summer. Hospitality very good. Menu. Excellent choise, we chose off the board. Food. Tasty, appetising and plentiful. Our only criticism is: My partner had to ask for a bowl for empty mussel shells, and there was no decent Decaff coffee available that night. All in all a lovely experience, but get that coffee issue sorted !

The duke William was fantastic. They always do a great Sunday lunch. We do a 120 mile round trip to visit and treat our daughter who is at university there to an outstanding Sunday lunch. Atmosphere and staff are great too.

Great location and easy parking at the hotel. Nice pub with a lovely welcoming feel about it, the bar staff, wait staff and reception were excellent. We ate at The Duke both mightd, the meals were nice..standard fare really but plentiful and great service. Our room was spacious, clean and really good value for money. Some nice touches..cafetière and fresh coffee added to the boutique feel. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay here again & wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to F&F.

The Place is fine, the waiting staff fine and food pretty good overall and price reasonable so as a package worth a visit, we were wanting to be there for the night but it seems the manager wanted to close the place around 10.30pm so we were presented with the bill which seemed to suggest to us 'sling your hook' so this put a damper on the night for us, also it seems that the manager refused local carol singers to perform which was also for the time of year a bit uncharitable, possibly a good reason for that but no members of public were made aware of what that maybe, so score would have been better if we did not have to contend with

Excellent food, service and décor. Well worth a visit. Scotch eggs with black pudding were succulent with the yolks just right. The beef pot roast was tasty and the meat very tender. Generous portions. A salted caramel tart was a perfect finish. Highly recommended.

We went in to the pub we were shown a table. When I given the menu there did not appear to have anything that was gluten free, when the waitress came to the our order I explained that I didn't eat gluten and there wasn't anything on the menu she took my concern to the chef she came after a couple on minutes and it was all sorted. The food I had was beef stew mash and veg. It was really good. I have been before when in the area and it has all ways been good. Staff very efficient and can't do enough to make sure every thing is correct.

This is the second visit for sunday lunch. The first time we had a really lovely meal but the second was not so good. Whether it was because we ate later, but the meat wasn't so nice, infact it was tough and two of us left it. At £15.95 per person, this was disappointing. On the positive side, my son had sticky toffee pudding for dessert which he said was delicious. Will try a further visit for sunday lunch again. The staff are very attentive and friendly.
