Good food, good atmosphere, amazing service would highly recommend, and will go again
We joined up with friends from Hertfordshire as we had done about 3 years ago. Nice to see them again, good time had by all. Maybe meet again here halfway from Dorset again in not too long.
We chose to visit The Brickmakers because of its excellent reviews and wasn’t disappointed. The service was outstanding and the food unbelievably good. The pork belly was quite literally one of the best dishes I’ve ever had. The haggis starter was a surprise star as well.
Food was good but service not as good as it has been in the past
As requested, we sat at a table in the corner, by the window at the front of the restaurant. Unfortunately, there was an unpleasant smell at this table. We spoke to the staff about it and they were aware. Otherwise the visit was a good experience all round.
Sunday lunch OK but not brill. Very slow, lost all the experienced staff.
Food 10/10 as always great service the best place for miles
Great food, good beer and fabulous service. We’ll visit again.
Excellent food and friendly competent staff in comfortable surroundings. Good experience
Really awful evening - over half hour after we sat to get anyone's attention. Food ended up cold the liver was gross undercooked and cold and chewy I had to spit it out could not swallow it nearly choked. I asked did it not come with mash - you could not see the mask it was about a spoonful hidden into gravy under the liver gross. Trying to get a second drink was also difficult kept being told in a minute ?? Then it took 3 attempts to get the bill then you had the cheek to stick service charge on bill when THE SERVICE WAS NON EXISTANT. BRING BACK ALEX AND SCOTT
PLEASE bring back Alex and Scott. Half hour plus at table before we got a menu or a drink. I had the calves liver when it eventually arrived it was stone COLD - the portion of mash was so small it was well hidden under the liver I asked did it not come with mash. IT was awful it tasted bitter and I nearly choked I had to say excuse me to my guests and pull it out of my mouth it had a long piece of thread down middle that had not cut through it was caught in my throat, it was disgusting. WE had to also ask for the bill three times. The table behind and to our left was so loud and shrieking all evening it was impossible to have a conversation. The back car park has no light at all and we nearly tripped up steps as it was pitch black. All in all a gross evening. I have dined many times and never experienced such a terrible evening, not like that when Alex and Scott ran it..
Great. Wonderful food and atmosphere. but disappointed that the sticky toffee pudding is served cold
There were a few niggles with the order and service, and the service was nowhere near as good as our last visit - Wednesday lunchtime. After raving about the restaurant to some new friends we were disappointed that it did not stack up against previous visits, including earlier this week.
We loved everything about the Brickmakers except for the noise in the restaurant. It was only half full but the noise level was quite high. If the restaurant was full it would be difficult to have a conversation without raising your own voice to be heard.
Lovely food and service- weather beautiful so outdoors was lovely to sit out at
Visited for my birthday. Food was lovely, and waitress very nice with good service. The barman was a little grumpy when we came in for the booking, but overall we had a nice meal. It was our first visit to the Brickmakers.
Very good overall waiting for table and car parking was an issue but this is because it is so popular but we will always return
Excellent starter of crab cake, good main of sea bass but the fish portion a bit on the small side. Had to ask a couple of times for drinks but on the whole service good.
Poor food and service, which is a shame as it was always a great pub
Great service and fab food. Comfortable table of 6 and good halfway meeting place between Southampton and Bedfordshire
Lovely food and great service. Wine was delicious. Thank you
Food was excellent, lots of people to serve clearly being trained which meant that it was not as attentive as perhaps previously experienced. That said it was a small observation, the overall experience was very positive.
Always great food and professional service in a vibrant atmosphere
Always have a good experience but on my latest visit the Vegan burger was the best I have ever eaten, very impressed.
Excellent first visit. Good food and great service. Pleasant staff
Excellent food and service. Despite a greasy plate and watery coffee, I would recommend the restaurant for its gourmet-level viands.
Very enjoyable meal, just rather noisy at times, next time a different table away from the kitchen will put this to rights.
Good service and excellent food and drink, as always. The only small criticism was the lack of water glasses on the table when we arrived (only 2 glasses instead of 4) but easily resolved
We had a very nice lunch in a friendly atmosphere with very helpful staff will certainly visit again
A great place to eat and relax. However, as in many restaurants nowadays, there are very few soft furnishings and no carpets. This results in a very noisy atmosphere which is not really conducive to having quiet conversations.
Liver and bacon nowhere near as good as it used to be! Liver was full of fibres and whole dish very salty. HAS the chef changed?
Lovely pub very attentive great food book early as always booked
Food excellent, wine prices high,, noise level just about acceptable.
Great food, but a bit noisy as it was very busy.
Very good service and food as always have recommended to friends
The Brickmakers has always been one of our favourite places to eat but after this evening it has sadly been knocked off its perch. Scott and Alex who used to run it very successfully have only been gone for about three weeks and it has slipped. The food was fine but the service and pleasant atmosphere have vanished. We were served by three different people - not so much as a smile out of any of them and I think one was the new manager. No checking if we wanted any more drinks, if we’d enjoyed our food, and no choccies at the end which Scott used to give out with the bill. All sounds petty stuff but if I’d taken over a highly successful restaurant I wouldn’t have changed a thing. Sadly not the same vibe it used to have so we probably won’t return. Others must be feeling the same already as there were quite a few empty tables. Previously it would have been full.
great food and service and always a great atmospheres. always a pleasant night
Rather noisy - but service was good, and the food was excellent.
A lovely meal with the family on Mother’s Day. Pubs and restaurants often misjudge days like this and overbook giving a poor experience, that was certainly not the case. The service and food was its usual high standard and we didn’t feel rushed at all.
!Excellent service and food was delicious! We’ll be back! Thanks!
Second time since Scott left and great service but missing mine host Would help if new owners made themselves known
Really good meal and enjoyed the visit and food. The service was particularly good
Lovely food & atmosphere. Good service. Fairly priced. Thank you!
Staff friendly . Veggie meal not to my liking. Burger was not a good taste and texture. Son asked for PLAIN burger and received full burger with everything? Had to go back. Husbands sweet had far too much syrup and tasted like chocolate sponge rather than sticky toffee pudding. Still a friendly quality restaurant 👍
Good food and great service. Would highly recommend. Will be back.
Food portions were a lot smaller than previous visits. I had salmon which was delicious but my friend had liver. A little tough but still overall good.
Brilliant Time as always at the Brickmakers. we Will Return
Everything was fine. Staff really helpful and didn't rush us , even though we took our time to choose our meal.
An excellent lunch at the Brickmakers today. The chicken Caesar salad was superb - the chicken being wonderfully moist and succulent. This was complemented by a great rib-eye sandwich and chunky chips that, although full, could NOT be left. I
Good food, but just a little pricey. What I had (Haddock, chips and peas) was comparative with a less expensive Beefeater and a bigger portion. My wife had the beef pie with mashed potatoes and veg. The pastry was just right and the beef filling was plentiful. The starter was £8 for a small portion of smoked salmon with prawns and dressing on top, together with two small pieces of toasted bread. Very tasty , but £8? However, overall, very good and recommended. Just need to save up a bit or win the lottery for our next visit. 😁👍👍👍👌
