No atmosphere as we were the only dinners in the dining room the staff were obviously pre occupied in the bar area which resulted in us having to visit the bar during our meal as the dining room is a separate room entirely which is a shame as it is a lovely venue also the staff decided to re arrange to furniture during our meal it felt a bit like we were an inconvenience rather than paying customers

Food was good quality. Big portions in fact too much. Absolutely delicious Easter roast.

We visited on Maundy Thursday and were literally blown into the hotel through the bar entrance. The first time we experienced such windy weather. It was a noisy but convivial crowd enjoying the delights of this old building. We waited sometime to be served at the hotel entrance and eventually after three service bell rings we had to hunt down a member of staff to check us in. After a five hour journey and long delays it wasn’t the best start. We arrived for dinner and found a table (despite having booked) and found the only member of staff busy serving and trying to waitress the tables with diners. It was clear she was under pressure and the hotel understaffed. This obviously affected the service and efficiency of the hotel. The menu choices were really interesting and I could have enjoyed every offering as they all sounded great and the prices favourable. The food was really good and I would totally recommend dining here if you’re not too sniffy about waiting. The hotel is one of our favourites despite the lack of service. It has recently had some refurbishment which is tasteful and on the whole the public areas are clean and fresh. The room we stayed in was small but adequate for one night and we slept well in a very comfortable bed. The breakfast was again a waiting affair whilst we tried to get the attention of the serving staff. The breakfast was very good and there was a good choice of all sorts to set you up for the day all included in our stay. In conclusion as I’ve said a few times I love Alverstoke and this hotel more than anywhere else as we were married here some 24 years ago but I would have welcomed better service as this was the only thing that let us down

lovely mothers day lunch. The only things I would say to make it more perfect and this is only my preference but I do like to see table cloths on tables when we are having a special lunch and a little background music in keeping with the building and surroundings would have been nice.

The food was terrific - but we had to sit in the crowded and noisy bar which spoiled our evening. We were rang earlier in the day to make us aware the restaurant was taken over by a wedding party but were assured we would have a nice quiet corner to celebrate our own special occasion. The table for seven was laid out with a stool in place of one of the chairs and far from being quiet, we had trouble hearing each other talk. At one point we considered leaving. However on the plus point, the staff were friendly and helpful even though they were busy and the food was excellent.

Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The menu catered for a wide variety of tastes and budgets. I had the steak which was perfect and served with a generous portion of dauphinois potatoes. Both my wife and l enjoyed our desserts although found it highly amusing when served in a jar. Perhaps we're old fashioned ! The dining room itself was in need of a little tlc but added to the charm in a glorious setting. All in all , a pleasant dining experience and we shall certainly revisit in the near future.

Excellent food but very few customers. In fact we were the only ones on a Sunday evening! Such a shame because the roast was really good, tender meat and a large portion. Lovely waitress who left us to ourselves so we didn't feel uncomfortable being the only ones there.

The baked Camembert was excellent, unfortunately the wilted spinach was missing from our main and fresh strawberries on our cheesecake would have been nice. Service was fine

Long wait until staff attended to us on arrival. Tables sticky and cutlery smeared. Main course very good. Our choice of dessert from menu not available after order placed. Only one waitress on duty.
