Excellent quality food and the portion size was a pleasant surprise. Not an over complex menu which I like you have a few options to select from. Less choice=better quality as the chefs not running round cooking hundreds of things. Will definitely come back
Menu has been drastically reduced since last visit in October, and quality not as good as it was. Still a nice setting and good service though
Wonderful! The staff went above and beyond duty to make sure my mother in law had a brilliant 70th birthday meal. Love the new menu, plenty of choice and exciting new specials.
This was a slightly disappointing experience as I've eaten here several times before and have always enjoyed the food. The menu has been reduced and is now quite limited. I had a chicken caesar salad which although nice enough was a bit uninspiring with lots of lettuce but hardly any chicken. The sticky toffee pudding was very nice and the service was friendly and efficient. It was a bit expensive at almost £20 for a smallish main course, dessert and soft drink.
Had a great meal last night, first time in the Ettrick for a few years will be back great food and great price, Fish and chips was best ever ,
A lovely conservatory restaurant with friendly a tentative staff. Good food although a little on the pricy side. Good parking facilities and easy access for anyone with disabilities.
A bit disappointed. A new chef was being 'broken in' and things were a bit chaotic. Quite poor menu choice . Some meals were good some not so good. However I really do like the Ettrick so I feel it is worth another try. Maybe we were just unlucky. Will give them the benefit if the doubt - this time.
Enjoyed a very nice meal in the recently renovated dining area. Good value for money and the staff were attentive and pleasant - will hopefully return soon.
Given last minute notice that we couldn't eat in the bar and were moved to the bar - a pretty cold table right next to the door. The service was very slow and the attitude of the staff was appalling - we waited twenty minutes for our order to be taken and this was only done after I had spoken to, who I assume was the manager. The manager offered no apology for the slow service, or being moved to the bar area rather than the restaurant - I can see where the other staff get their disgusting attitude for customers from! The food itself was not very good - I was certainly expecting better given that I have heard good reviews about the Royal Ettrick from friends and family. I certainly won't be going back, nor would I recommend it to anybody else!
Fabulous afternoon tea couldn't fault the service or the quality of the food such a relaxed environment have been here many times one of my favourite places in Edinburgh
Staff friendly - menu much depleted from before. Food good that we ordered. No cutlery with dessert ~ did say numerous times one person was gluten free but dessert came with shortbread which to be on safe side he didn't eat. Had to chase for water and drinks a bit.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal in the conservatory bistro, the food was tasty and the staff were friendly and welcoming. We may well become regulars!
We had dinner in the conservatory bistro. The setting is pleasant and modern. The staff were friendly but not well trained or efficient. The food was very average and the range of choice was not great. We booked there because it was handy for meeting friends. We are unlikely to go back.
