What started life as a pancake and waffle van in Lewisham in 2010 has grown into a cult destination along Old Kent Road that today pulls diners to its Bermondsey dining room for American-style dining in London. Owned by Tobi Raphael, who got his start in mobile catering, there’s nothing temporary about his latest venture. The menu unites great food with superior quality ingredients with a love of all-American favourites to the delight of south London diners.

Burgers have become a hipster favourite of late, and there’s no shortage of places in the capital serving a thousand different combinations of bun and beef patty. At OId Kent Road’s Mama Leah’s in Bermondsey, there’s a plethora of the American favourite on offer (call us old fashioned, but our favourite is the Mama’s Classic Burger: just burger, bun and salad). Of course, this south London favourite knows exactly on which side its buns are buttered and caters to the mason jar-loving hipster crowd with excellent cocktails (served in unusual vessels, naturally) and chicken wings (you read it here first – chicken wings are going to be the new burger).

Of course, having started life as a pancake and waffle van, Old Kent Road’s Mama Leah’s takes pudding very seriously indeed. Think generous servings of cream and toffee sauce and you’re nearly halfway to a banana dessert that is proving to be a winner with south London’s discerning foodie lot (as well as the Instagram crowd).
