We were welcomed warmly and looked after with professional and amusing service. The food was fabulous and our party of six had a really super night out. Good atmosphere and the pianist went around the room asking guests for requests, a really nice touch.

Lovely food, two friends came that had not been before and thoroughly enjoyed the food. We usually come to York at least twice a year but will be recommending to others.

Excellent service, very reasonable price, great menu choice. Lovely view from the conservatory part of the restaurant, very interesting building. This is my second visit. Highly recommend.

Great service and great food. Beautiful surroundings was sat in the conservatory over looking the gardens. Best profiteroles I've ever had will definitely come back!

Went here for a meal with friends. Our group included a vegetarian and someone who is gluten free, both were well accommodated by the menu. Lovely building, we were on a great table in a sort of conservatory area which meant we could enjoy the summer evening without being fully outside which was perfect. Delicious food fairly priced and attentive friendly staff. Would definitely recommend and return.

Food was tasty and presented well and the atmosphere lively. However, the service was a bit rushed and we ended up having a short night out.

Would definitely recommend this restaurant and will certainly be back. The only drawback was that the portions were so generous we didn't have room for a sweet. The atmosphere was relaxing with the piano playing and the friendly staff.

Excellent service, friendly staff, happy to help and lovely surroundings, food great. Will recommend to family and friends when visiting York as we have never been disappointed.

Service very good. Varied menu. Set lunch very reasonable. We had both attended the school and they went out of their way to help us make the most of our visit Will definitely go again

We were in a lovely room at the front which gave our party a very private feel. Food very good. Menu varied. Good portions. Quite a few ordered pizza which were all delicious. Pasta dishes very tasty. Service good but not subyle ie not in your face all the time. 10 per cent service charge which we were told was optional but paid it. Would return so thats always a good sign!

This was our second visit to la vecchia scuola whilst visiting York. We were rather disappointed in all aspects on this our second visit: the menu seemed rather limited, especially the antipasta (mainly fish); our main course of fillet steak was good but would have preferred to have had it on plate, and not what seemed to resemble, a wooden tray/lid! Also seemed a little pricey for our one course steak meal. In spite of the piano player we did not feel there was much of an ambience. Perhaps we were just unlucky that night.

When we arrived the man at the front desk was very rude. He never spoke much and when shown to the table just left. The table wasnt what we wanted so I shouted after him, to which he ignored me. I shouted again and this time he turned round, I asked him if we could sit somewhere else, to which he replied no and walked off. Great start to the evening. This was supposed to be a lovely relaxing meal for our 20th Wedding Anniversary unfortunately it was not. Tables too near each other, so you heard everything the other people said. The food was pretty good shame about the staff. Will not be going again.

Lovely setting, friendly and helpful staff. The food was very tasty with a good variety. Excellent set menu choices. Great value for money. We will be back!

Lovely friendly staff. Food is first class. Attentive service. Always go to this restaurant when in York. The table is yours for however long you want it. Been 7 times now and a lovely dining experience.

Men's toilets were not great in need of cleaning and painting. The hand dryer did not work. The food was good and the service was first class.

The food was beautiful, however, a pianist began to play what should have been background music, I suppose to add to the ambiance. This would have been fine had the music not been so loud that we could not hold a conversation over dinner as we couldn't hear what was being said. It was such a shame as the restaurant is beautifully decorated, food was lovely and the staff were nice and pleasant as well. May I suggest moving the piano out of the main room where a tiled floor and high ceilings make the noise level seem worse.

Service was good, food excellent and advice given by staff was good, wine nice, table request was granted. Only slight downside, coffee was not the best which for an Italian restaurant I thought strange, it could have been stronger

Beautiful setting with wonderful food, always pay a visit when in York. Highly recommend! Friendly and attentative staff, very popular at all times so advisable to book on evenings but usually call in ad hoc during the day.

Excellent friendly service from Alessandro. There was a party of 4 and we all had something different from the menu, all of which was superb. Will definitely visit again when next in York.

Lovely table in conservatory, booked with no hassle. Meal and service excellent. Will definitely be first choice next time in York. Lunch time special great value but not served on a Saturday.

A very pleasant restaurant. We had a delightful table in the conservatory overlooking a lovely garden. The food was good and the service also good. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to my friends.

Lovely food and great service. Seating was a bit tight, but that didn't detract from an excellent evening. The resident pianist has an amazing repertoire.

Booked table of 4 for 1-00pm on a Sunday, lovely conservatory table overlooking the garden. The waiting staff were amazing, friendly, knowledgeable and super efficient. We all ordered off the special menu. A fabulous mix of dishes from chicken, fish and pasta. For starters I had the pate served with toasted brioche divinely creamy and delicious. My main was the chicken and mushroom dish with roast potato, so scrumptious. Even though very full at this point a little pause to enjoy the rest of our wine and dessert was a must home made Tiramisu it was heavenly delight for the taste buds. A couple of cocktails completed a lovely afternoon spent in fabulous surroundings

Lovely staff - great with our son. Food was delicious and well presented. Overall a delightful experience and wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Bright sunny dining room, if a little crushed with tables.

Food superb as per usual and incredible service ... as per usual!! I did notice the toilets starting to get a little shabby on this visit but overall a minor observation.

Excellent service and lovely food. A calm oasis in the middle of York. Would recommend it to anyone for a special treat or just for everyday.

A lovely restaurant.fabulous value ,we had set menu 3 course £18.95.Great choice of foods I would describe as fine dining.Attentive pleasant staff.Ask for table through back in conservatory.Go and enjoy!

Best restaurant in York, fantastic friendly service. Very good food. Great atmosphere and very welcoming. Easy to find and very good value. Would recommend to everyone.

The location and décor of the restaurant are first class.The price of the food was reasonable. The restaurant ambiance and staff were excellent. Will return again.

Restaurant in dire need of some TLC, grubby and tired. Food itself at best average, minute steak sold as fillet. Volume atitude one would normally associate with a chain.

What a wonderful restaurant. Beautifully set in a 300year old building, and a conservatory set in well maintained gardens la vecchia scuollo really is a gem. Stunning restaurant with attentive service and most importantly beautiful food. We ate off the set menu which, at 3 courses for 17.95, provides wonderful value for such quality food. Cannot recommend la veccia scuollo enough. We will definitely be returning next time we are in York.

A lovely setting with views of the Minster, fantastic starters with a great choice , set meal available which was good value for money , attentive service, our party of four all enjoyed the starters more that the mains

Excellent food! Fresh and of good quality. Service was also very good. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy my elderflower spritzer drink as was stightly too acidic for me but really enjoyed the rest of the lunch. Will definitely return soon.

Delicious food and good value for money. staff are very efficient without being intrusive. The restaurant is spacious and airy with some good views from the conservatory up to the minster. Great central position.

A really nice restaurant with friendly, helpful staff. The food is amazing. A very good selection for all tastes and requirements that is expertly cooked. The carbonara was the best i have ever had. Very competitive price wise too.

pleasant staff, good food, nice menu choice and all a a reasonable price. We chose from the set 2 or 3 course evening menu. The smoked haddock chowder was delicious so too the beef stroganoff. Friends had the pork belly starter which was good followed by a delicious créant lasagne.

Second visit here. A beautiful restaurant with a conservatory that overlooks the Minster. Pleasant staff and speedy service. Food is scrumptious!!! This place is a haven of calm and beauty. Will be back!!

The ambience and food were both excellent, although the service was a little slow. In fairness it was a busy post-Christmas lunch period and they were at about capacity when we arrived.

Great food, great staff. Definitely going back when I'm next in York. Though I think the Black Forest Gateaux could have done with more of that sauce stuff.
