Very welcoming. Service was excellent. Food as amazing. Ordered a side dish that wasn't on the menu and they cooked it for us, and it was delicious. Will definitely be returning.

We had a great meal at the James Dahl prior to a show at the Hippodrome (Kevin Bridges), very quiet when we arrived at 6pm but filled up quickly and having tasted the food and experienced the service we now know why …… excellent restaurant.

Absolutely loved our meal. the service was great, the food was great and the wine was great. a nice atmosphere and the prices were more than reasonable. Will definitely be visiting again.

My guest and I arrived approximately 5 minutes before our booking however we were warmly welcomed, immediately put at ease and shown to our table The restaurant is very open, which my guest and I commented and it is a clearly well kept and refined restaurant. We were spoken to extremely politely by all members of staff, they were very helpful and professional throughout our evening and the atmosphere in the restaurant during our meal was very relaxed. The food was of a high standard and the portion sizes were perfect, not overdoing it but you left full and satisfied. My guest and I had a starter and main course each. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a very good quality Indian cuisine with a relaxed ambiance and adept staff. I shall definitely be returning.

Loved it, the decor was lovely. Food was fantastic and seemed to remain hot for a very long time. Naan Bread could of been bigger but wasn't the end of the world nor did it take our enjoyment of a brilliant meal.

Great flavours with something to suit everyone's palette and all well presented. We really enjoyed the tandoori chicken. Service was efficient but not rushed. Loved it.

The meal & service were excellent but found the service charge of £30 exorbitant. We were more than prepared to leave a good tip prior to realising the hefty service charge!

Lovely food and great service. Nice clean restaurant. The only reason I didn’t give it a 6 is because my garlic naan bread wasn’t very garlicky.

The restaurant serves wonderfully tasty food. We treated ourselves to the special mixed starter for two which is presented beatifully and is very special. The connoisseur choices offer dishes that are a little different. The staff are very efficient and freindly. I would deffinately recomend a visit.

Restaurant well decorated with comfortable seating array. Had two soft drinks of coke and lemonade which surprisingly were at room temperature and tasted quite flat, like they had been poured from a big bottle of pop. Meals were well presented but on the smaller portion size that I wouldn’t have expected for the price you pay. Was quite surprised of size for the dipping sauces and salad mix that came with the popadoms for me and my wife to share considering I was charged for them. Where at other restaurants I’ve been too they would be free.

Good welcome on arrival to a clean pleasant restaurant. The staff were very attentive without being overbearing. Good choice of dishes on the menu - the poppadoms, starters & mains we ordered were very tasty & satisfying. Look forward to visiting again.

Food not quite as good as last time but still good. Waiters seemed to be a bit distracted by all the girls walking past the restaurant!

Great food and service. The menu was varied and contained some dishes I hadn't heard of before therefore I was happy to try those and wasn't disappointed. The staff were very attentive and the food came promptly. I couldn't find anything to fault.

Food was nice however service was not great. We booked a table but had to wait when we arrived because they had a large party that had arrived an hour late so they hadn’t got tables back in time. Not prepared for the fact an Indian show was on round the corner and hence would mean being busier than usual.

Hi I brought friends from Devon they said best curry they Have ever had good friendly service highly recommended. Very nice restaurant will definitely go again.

Lovely starters, waiters and service was faultless my only complaint would be is that the naan bread was slightly under. Apart from that it was a lovely night out.

My husband and I booked this restaurant last minute as our concert at the hippodrome was cancelled due to the bad weather. Because of the weather the restaurant was not busy, but we received a very warm welcome and the service was wonderful. The food which was impeccable, very much a fine dining Indian restaurant. I had a fish curry and it was to die for...very tasty. I would definitely recommend anyone to visit this restaurant, and we will return.

Great restaurant that lived up to its tripadviser ratings and the food was top notch for taste and quality of ingredients. The James Special was special.

Slightly rude service, chewing gum whilst serving is not what you expect in a high level restaurant however the food was good and quick service

The shatkora didn’t taste nice and we wanted it to be hot, but it wasn’t spicy at all. We ordered pilau rice but instead they gave a nasty tasting sweet rice, the workers kept staring and the atmosphere was awkward

Absoluteley top draw, food was exceptional. Would be delighted to go again, service also good but it's the food, so so good Yummm. Five Stars.

I'm a vegetarian and ordered veg platter. Received veg platter and meat somasas. Ate half of one. Gave back and another one was prepared.. during this time my husband finish all his food. The other platter arrived. Once again i ate the somasas and it was meat. I walked out.

The food was OK, but just Ok. A very convinient location, nice service; it was loud: so many people had to talk loud because the misic was also loud. Anyway, I like the place.

Fabulous food, very tasty. Attentive staff. Reasonably priced. A few more vegetarian specialities would be appreciated. Meat eating forends were happy with the large choice of dishes on offer.

A glossy modern Indian that feels a bit cheap, unlike its prices. Average service - The manager’s a nice guy, but the other staff are putting on an act and you can see through it. The food is good, but nothing to write home about. In all, a bit of a hollow experience

My first time in Birmingham (the home of curry in the UK?). My James Dahl Special Biryani was OK but nothing special, so I was a bit dissapointed!!

Excellent service as soon as we walked through the door. The waiting staff are polite, friendly and helpful - quite a rarity in restaurants these days. Food was tasty and plenty of choice. The wine I picked was also excellent. The only thing I’d change next time I visit is sitting in a different area of the restaurant. As it’s quite small and intimate, noise levels got quite high (it was peak time on a Saturday night after all) and my friend and I had to raise our voices a little to hear each other (we were sitting in the area where most of the tables are concentrated). Altogether a great experience though and would definitely go back to try all their other dishes.

Excellent food. Would definitely recommend to anyone who has not been before. Only negative is it is a little hard to find. But got there eventually.

A return visit for us. Once again, we found the food beautifully presented and very tasty. As well as the usual favourites there are plenty of different choices which we like. Good value for money too.

Service was top notch. Meals were flavorsome. Only critique is that the curries had absolutely no heat. The makani and the dopiaza had equal amount of heat for a mild and medium curry. If they can sort out this issue then would not hesitate to recommend.

This was our second visit. The service was excellent, the food was plentiful and flavorsome. Absolutley beautiful to be exact. The prices were reasonable as were the wine prices. We will definitely be going again next time we are in Birmingham .
