Very welcoming staff - we had a large group and the space reserved for us was perfect. Food excellent and good value, many thanks.
Great on the go meal. Yummy and cost effective. My little boy loved it and whatever we could not finish we took home. Most excellent place mummy and daddy enjoyed a beer as well.
The best sausage I had in a long time. The chips were amazing too - thin and super crispy. Would definitely recommend and go again.
In all honesty we were a bit disappointed. We've had better from a german market. The chips and the bread rolls were really good, but they were let down by the bratwurst. I had the currywurst, which was only lukewarm. We liked the atmosphere though.
Fun little place, good for a quick bite before a show or other plans. But it's nothing special, with fairly average food and no vibe to speak of. Nothing offensive, but I doubt I'd make a return.
Really nice place with very good beer (white German beer) and proper meat bratwurst sausages! Could recommend for small/medium size companies. Also you could ask them for take away.
Good food and very affordable. Would be great if they would put a photo or a brief and clear description of their menu to help customers order.
Original german junk food! Best curry wurst just like home!!! We went to the one in Soho. They have imported bratwurst from the black forest with great sauce and fritz coke. I’ll return whenever I feel homesick.
Food quality and variety was excellent. Table service was good, although if you have reserved a table, don't expect to be shown to your table as you will have to hunt for your name amongst the reservations in the downstairs area. Would definitely recommend for a casual, fairly-priced dinner.
If you want to meet friends for a quick meal, this place does the trick. Buy a beer and wait for them. Go back and buy food whenever you want. 5 of us had a good time. I felt like I was a student in Munich again (40 years later)
Food is not very good and too expensive for the quality and quantity. Potato salad was just awful, cold and completely inedible. Would never go again.
Good Foods, nice fries chatic stuff and a strange Location, pretty good in all! We will com eback in the next years whe we vistit London again.
We booked a table for the German game and we just received a bench in the last row. When I tried to talk to someone they told me that they had a lot of reservations and he can't do anything!
I had great time with friends watching a football match there. It was Germany vs Poland. Great atmosphere. Good service. I will certainly go back.
We loved the food and the staff were friendly and polite. The ambience was perfect and we all had a fun night Herman ze German is ze best
It had a nice atmosphere and the food filled you up, and not too expensive considering it's central London. Chips were great. The only reason I didn't give it 6 was because the sausage wasn't the best
The food is always great at Herman Ze German, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Our table was ready for is when we got there (even though we were 15 minutes late). Everything we ordered arrived quickly and everyone left feeling very full and happy at the end of the night!
Went to this place before going to see the Rocky Horror show live - from Frankfurters to Frankenfurter! Quirky, fun, good beer and sausages. What's not to like?
A small restaurant on Old Compton Rd, Herman ze German packs a punch with its big, flavoursome wursts. Can go as.cheap or pricey as.you like depending on your add-ons. Service is really quick!
Real German food and beer with excellent service. Wunderbar. We had the Schnitzel, Ze Wilde Bock roll and a large Curry wurst which were all excellent
We booked for lunch. They didn't have our reservation, but they had a table so it wasn't a problem. They didn't have schnitzel which was our reason for going. They said they had run out...at 12.30 (!!!) The fries were not as crispy as normal. They had different music on the ground floor and the basement which were playing over each other. As we go there quit regularly, we know how good the place is. On this occasion we were disappointed.
Wasn't necessary to book at 2pm on Saturday. Was plenty of space, and was bench-style seating, so I am not sure what we would have reserved anyway! :)
Fast, efficient and friendly service - food was cheap and delicious. I couldn't really fault them. It is one of my fav spots in London.
Cute little place, awesome selection of German food! We tried a few different dishes of curry sausages and schnitzel which tasted delicious and 100% authentic. Only negative is that I booked a table as a birthday surprise for a friend but when we arrived the staff wasn't very welcoming, no one greeted us even after we went to the main counter and we just had to find an empty table by ourselves as the booking didn't seem to bother anyone.
I've been to a different Herman ze German before and it was great. The man sat us down and talked through the menu. This one, however, no menu and you have to pick what you want on arrival which is kinda on the spot. They don't even have the hot dog, chips and drink offer displayed, I had to ask. Anyways the man was nice enough, but having asked for two of the above meals, it was brought down fairly quickly but only one meal. The man hadn't run through one as a meal deal and when I said to the ladies, it took two of them and going up and down straits to say there was a mistake. When my partner suggested bringing the extra chips down and settling it on our way out or it would all get cold, they said no. My partner said to take these items back as they were already going cold and he had to go back up and get a refund and run it through again. A bit later they brought our food down which was clearly the same as the cheese had conguiled instead of being warm and bubbly. They gave us extra chips I'm sure but by this point we were so hungry we didn't bother complaining about the fact it was cold. Which is a shame because I really rate this place having had such a good expenrince at the other stores, who clearly know how to do it better.
The food was lovely and came quickly. The staff were funny and helpful. Overhearing it was my birthday, the staff wished me a happy birthday. It was fantastic.
Very nice place. Good to hang out with friends, especially the downstairs seating. Only downside is the slightly annoying smell that the restaurant leaves in your clothes, from all the fried stuff.
Awesome food. Super quick service and a good price. I love good quality German food and this is exactly what we got. Thanks guys. We'll see you again soon
No queue and quick service, knowledgeable staff. Music was quite loud and overpowered our conversation a bit but food was very good and nice laid back atmosphere so overall pleased
Food was ok, not super spicy as it should be but I guess that's down to personal preferences too. Being Germans means you know the food super well so I'd only give it a 4. ;)
Friendly staff, food pretty good but why no meus on the tables and having to trapse up and down the stairs to place an order was not good. We were a party of five.
Lively canteen atmosphere and the sausages were nice but not as fabulous as I expected. Great crispy chips though. The basement where we sat was dark and the seating (wooden benches) not what you call comfy. There is an allure in the basic decor of the place but I expected the currywurst to be more on par with what I've eaten in Germany. Worth a visit though especially after a late night in town.
Booking worked just fine. However, a slightly odd approach by the restaurant. Firstly they would only take table bookings for more than four people. We were a pair. Secondly the earliest reservation time was mid-day, whereas they opened for business at 11:00
Delish dogs, kids loved the projector downstairs - Knoght Rider and Baywatch
I found the staff very helpful. However the restaurant downstairs is a bit dingy. The food was delicious and as tasty as one could expect be it a German sausage. The wild garlic bratwurst was the tastiest. The sauces weren't that how, I had the burner and wish I had the ringer. But overall a pleasant experience.
Not my thing but for others who like smoked sausage it might be yours
The food was really good but there was a group of guys downstairs being incredibly loud, constantly swearing, smashing glasses and at one point they were having a drinking competition and one guy was sick! The annoying thing was no one from the staff said anything! Everyone downstairs was really uncomfortable with them and people were just leaving as soon as they had finished. Although I would go back, this ruined a really good night
