Menu options are less interesting than they used to be and choices fewer. Presentation also less stylish than on previous visits and waitresses inexperienced and lacking knowledge of both the food and the wines. Thankfully the barman is very knowledgeable & helpful in selecting wines. Food still good but was excellent around a year ago. Maybe the chef has changed?
Amazing food, knowledgeable staff, lovely atmosphere. Food quality definitely some of the best I've eaten in a long time (and as a real foodie, I don't say that lightly!). The owner knows his wines and can recommend pairings with food. Will definitely be visiting again.
great food, attentive staff , wonderful restaurant , would highly recommend
a varied menu nicely presented and very tasty recommended goats cheese very good
The best wine selection and quality of wines we’ve seen in a pub restaurant. The landlord Dave, is very knowledgeable about his wines. An exquisite meal and an experience we won’t forget in a hurry. Planning our next trip there already!
Lovely welcome presentation of food good but disappointed when eating as lamb unable to cut and roast potatoes rock hard
We were welcomed by Dave the landlord and very helpful staff for a birthday meal for my wife and friends, Dave had arranged some special Gin tasting for my wife as part of the meal. We had an excellent 3 course meal beautifully cooked, attentive waiting staff, dealing with our needs perfectly. I was surprised it was not busier, but then again it was the hottest day of the year so far!! A little gem of a pub. Keep up the excellent work Dave and Team
Great dining room, nice atmosphere and tasty food. Pricing medium high.
Very good as always. Very tasty food and well presented.
Great experience will be back soon was recommended by my son he was right
Looked after very well, aside from the olives being requested again. Having the menu marked for gluten free options was excellent. Friendly atmosphere and a great selection of gin and whisky. Vast wine choice from various countries. Good choice to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We will revisit soon as we have always been looked after whenever we go.
Excellent food Lovely relaxed atmosphere Great gluten free food Thanks
Unfortunately the food very bland and the service although efficient lack the personal touch
early evening catch-up with my mum - food took longer than expected to come out considering how few customers there were at the time - I guess kitchen were busy with prep? Food was lovely and could accommodate my keto diet (very low carb)
Another excellent mean - I really cannot fault The Fox and Hounds. the food is always fresh with seasonal ingredients. The service is always good - and the banter
Delicious food (sourced locally), great wine, lovely evening, very happy.
Absolutely lovely as always. Great atmosphere, lovely staff and beautiful food.
Lovely food and service. We Will certainly be back again!
Splendid as always - really nothing more to say is there?
This is a little hidden gem. We are regulars now as the menu is so unique, the food is exquisite, fresh and interesting. Service is fabulous too. A must for anyone that loves a 'quality' food and dining experience.
A fabulous evening. We sat in the bar area as requested. We had F and H Bloody Marys waiting for us as we arrived. Spicy and gorgeous! The olives are delicious. We had a bread board, fish and chips and desserts. A brilliant evening. Thank you F and H.
Excellent food, complimented by an above average house red. Pleasure as always.
Best food in the area bar none, consistently excellent with proper portions.
Lovely ambiance.,service and decor..food great except for my rosti which was overcooked...did draw attention to it and will be rectified if I.order this on the future.Suoer homemade bread too... would definitely go there again. It was a birthday meal for me so a special rate evening out with my husband.
Food and service excellent - not may people in - surprising because although miserable weather, this is a haven. Food was superb!
Always an absolute pleasure dining here. The wine gentleman is a proper star! Food delicious every time. Recommend to everyone.
Good service & excellent food, although a bit pricey for a village pub. Perhaps the extensive menu was too extensive and could be shortened to provide better value?
Visited for Sunday lunch as a party of six. The food was excellent , great starters and roasts. Sadly the venison had sold out by 2:30 pm. However the experience was somewhat spoiled as there was only one waitress covering the complete restaurant and bar area and she was appeared rather brusque and lacking in warmth. A shame as otherwise very good.
Consistently good food. Menu updated often. Great ambience. Very relaxed place. Enough staff & they're attentive without being overly so. Always a treat to eat there.
Excellent food and service as always. Never had a bad meal or service. One of the best, if not the best locally - worth trying if you haven't
Had a great time. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. I would like to reserve those comfy seats near the fire every night!! F and H Bloody Mary is amazing. Loved the option of Prix Fixe, A la Carte or bar type food. I will definitely be back.
Have been meaning to visit for a while, first visit last night, now wondering why it took us so long, lovely, will definitely be back !
Knowledgeable staff and great food. Interesting menus with dishes you won’t find elsewhere. Particularly good at catering for specific dietary requirements. We will continue to return.
It is always a true delight and fabulous experience! Amazing food with such a varied menu, exquisite wine and fabulous customer service. We love it here!
As always, superb food, fantastic host who really knows his wine and spirits. Really enjoy our traditional new years day lunch at this brilliant pub come restaurant!
Excellent choice Fantastic food Beautiful wine with large choice Service 10/10 not Rushed Lovely evening Perfect for a couples night out or for a evening with friends
From the moment we arrived at the Fox and Hounds, we were looked after extremely well. The food was delicious, perfectly cooked and presented, and the wine choice was excellent, we had a lovely evening, thanks.
Great freshly cooked tasty food, really nice and friendly staff, relaxing atmosphere and on a cold day December day a very welcoming warm wood fire, could not fault our visit
Superb place to eat mixing good beers, spirits, a country pub feel and decor (especially at Christmas!) and superb home cooked food. Staff were lovely and the food was tasty and hot.
3 generations enjoyed an excellent Sunday lunch for 4 on 16th December. Arriving for 12:45 the restaurant was quiet and clean with well presented and friendly staff. By 1330 the restaurant was all but full. The menu (including the celiac menu) was extensive and interesting with a choice of traditional roasts as well as vegetarian alternatives. We all chose the mushroom and tarragon soup served with hot crusty bread and butter. Tasty and filling this proved our downfall as none of us saved enough room for a pudding. 2 roast beef and 2 venison main meals served with excellent roast potatoes and home made gorgeous Yorkshire puddings. The food was well presented with a choice of vegetables served separately including, carrots, sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, red cabbage and cauliflower cheese. My request for extra gravy was speedily met with my own gravy jug too. Hot and very tasty it was a fabulous meal and while the menu looked pricey represented fair value. One observation, my father likes his beef thinly sliced, so if that is your preference too then be sure to request thin slices from you waitress. The wine list was huge. I could have spent 20 minutes reading it and must cater for all tastes and budgets. I chose a Californian Merlot - it was the ideal accompaniment for our meal. In short we spent £140 and had an excellent lunch for 4 as described above and finished with 4 coffees. Thanks Fox and Hounds - possibly the best Sunday lunch offering within a 10 miles radius of Daventry.
We were comfortably seated in the bar area for lunch near the log fire. We all had different main courses which we enjoyed. The service, quality of food and location were good.
Incredible food, service and warmth of welcome - highly recommend to all who are looking for the perfect lunch or dinner out!! Plus the best wine and spirits collection we've ever come across :)
Menu appears to have changed from good, wholesome country pub food to more expensive, nouveau cuisine; very disappointed at the change. Quality of food was good but pricey and portions very small.
Wonderful food, best pub roast in a very long time! Lovely surroundings, atmosphere and service. We will definitely will be visiting again, I want to try out the sofa and roaring fire!
A really pleasant country pub with a good selection of Gin and Ales. The food is very good and the menu contained a good selection to choose from. The staff are attentive friendly and helpful when asked about menu options. I would not hesitate to recommend this place for a nice meal and lovely atmosphere.
Lovely food, good value, nice atmosphere on a busy Saturday night. Good range of drinks to go with the food , friendly team looked after you.
Lovely food and plenty of choice. We all enjoyed our meals and service was decent. Very good choice for lunch in this area and can see it becoming a regular
This place is consistently good. The menu is always an utter treat. Not a fussy or fancy place. Just really good food, cooked beautifully in really imaginative ways. Not silly money. Good atmosphere. Easy parking.
Really friendly staff. Lovely atmosphere and the service was spot on. Had the roast dinner which was delicious. They even brought my son and daughter an extra Yorkshire pudding as they liked the look of mine.
Lovely meal and surroundings. A small issue with one of the mains was dealt with quickly. Delicious pork belly, and an interesting menu, offering something different from most pubs.
