Was a good place to eat, enjoyed the service. A
Very nice restraunt , clean bright and lovery interier, with a perfect bar for a pre dinner cocktail, been a dozen times over the last couple of years, food well presented and hot, nice wine all at a realistic price , thank you Mr John
Once again, we had a really lovely lunch at Brasserie Vacherin, Croydon, together with our friends. The staff are delightful, as is Malcolm John, the Chef and owner. Our lunches were delicious and plentiful and the restaurant itself has a nice ambience. Very happy to recommend.
Excellent welcome, even though we were early. The food was excellent, especially the lamb shanks. Service throughout was excellent and attentive. Will definitely be going back.
Restaurant was very quiet but I had great company and we had Brilliant cocktails and excellent food. Very attentive and friendly staff. I would visit again
We had the prix fixe which was very good value and the food was delicious. It was a warm day and we were seated in the open window which was ideal. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
We have experienced good service on the day. The manager gave us special attention and good service. We will definitely go back to the restaurant
Brasserie Vacherin was a huge success for my husband and my wedding anniversary. They have a Monday night steak special which included the Chateaubriand for two at £27 plus extra for vegetables. While certainly not a cheap option the steak was tender and perfectly cooked. The chips and veg were also perfect. Escargot as a starter we're garlicky and delicious. The Creme Brûlée was smooth and creamy with a lovely caramel crust. Dining out on a Monday night has never been better.
Very friendly staff and good food. It was a tad noisy, with the front windows fully open - both traffic noise and music a bit too loud. However, we really like Brasserie Vacherin, so these are little nit-picks.
Fabulous cocktails especially the porn star martinis! They were very reasonable prices too. The double cooked gruyere soufflé was so light and fluffy and we all enjoyed our steaks too.
Love this place, the service and food are fantastic - have to say I'm a bit of a bore, I always without fail, order the Lemon Sole dish, it's consistently exceptional - cooked to perfection and full of flavour. Cocktails are great too. An uptown experience in South Croydon.
Good but overpriced based on portion size & extra side dishes. Staff over attentive - kept asking us if we were ready to order & took side dishes away when not finished. After paying £100 for 2 people for only starters & mains, wouldn't expect to sit on a ripped seat.
Enjoyed a nice evening with friends. Waiter service was slightly dissappointing as couldn't remember what we were orderinng and placement of dishes was rushed and untidy. Limited choice of dessert for hot evenings.
Soup and risotto were bland, chicken was really salty and the steak was tough and they forgot the frites; the teapots were totally scaled up inside and the service was poor - we had to wait every time we ordered something or were waiting to order, apart form the first order. We thought there was no point in complaining as we were trying to have a nice evening and we felt we would not receive a great response - the waiter was quite abrupt. Also, they charged £1.25 per slice of bread and for not a very big slice either, with no side plates to use to butter it! I came here when it first changed and wasn't impressed then, so I thought I'd give it another go - I wish I hadn't now.. Bill was over £150 and 3 of us had the 2 course prixe fixed menu with only 1 alcoholic drink each. We then split the bill between 2 and they rounded it up, this was after adding 12.5% service charge, which I would've definitely challenged if I felt I could.
Excellent again - will definitely return, been here several times & never disappointed. Very friendly staff & great service every time - thank you Lovely food & veggie option for my partner
Lovely dinner and great service. Great atmosphere. I would like to see more vegetarian options and more regular specials as main menu is quite small.
Reasonable food but as always indifferent service. Having said that its the only place of its kind in the area so there is no real alternative. Would still go there.
Had the Brunch menu which was very good value for money. The food was very tasty and well prepared. The service was excellent. A lovely experience
Super staff. Our waiter Bernard was absolutely amazing very efficient. Food portions were generous and great taste. Decor is modern and is ideal place to visit in south croydon
Food always excellent when Mr Malcolm John is in the kitchen. Great value steak evening. Staff pleasant but a little below par in efficiency when compared to normal. A very enjoyable evening.
Friendly and attentative staff. We had a great time. We will go there again. They have Very tasty virgin cocktails too. The food was really delicious too.
Went there for my Birthday dinner with close friends and the food was amazing! All the steaks were cooked to perfection and we had a lovely time!
Good food, great service but a little lacking in atmosphere. The decor reminded me of Cafè Rouge which wasn't a good thing. A few minor tweaks could make this a great place not just a good one.
Lovely atmosphere and food to go with it. didnt feel rushed to finish even though not to many people in there. . Very enjoyable experience
Great food. Friendly service. Good atmosphere. Happy hour cocktails. And it's local. Thoroughly recommend Brasserie Vacherin for a lovely evening. Looking forward to going again.
Excellent food and cocktails. Great service from friendly staff. A lovely little spot to while away the hours. I would highly recommend and plan to revisit again soon.
The food was delicious and staff very friendly. They really care about their costumers, always making sure you are having the best they can offer. I certainly will be back at this Brasserie and I highly recommend!
The food was okay. A little disappointed in the service, as we felt quite rushed to order and finish eating our main course (even though it was not very busy at the restaurant). However, after dessert, it seemed like they had forgotten we were even there. Don't think I will go there for a birthday celebration again since it wasn't anything special.
Friendly employees. Food good. The location is good. Value for price. Will recommend the restaurant as the menu is excellent, had lamb shank and combo plater. ...very tasty.
FOOD WAS GREAT AND IT WAS QUITE BUSY AS IT WAS MOTHERS DAY. SERVICE WAS A BIT SLOW BUT VERY COURTEOUS AND APOLOGETIC FOR THE DELAY.
Very poor experience on Mothers Day. Have used this restaurant several times and it's been ok (although not as good as the former Fish & Grill). Kitchen seemed unable to cope on this busy day. Took almost 2 hours for main course to arrive. Filet steak was tough and poor quality. Left without desert. Mangeress apologetic, but the damage was gone. Will not be back.
Food was lovely , was a set menu, but coffee wasn't included . Which on a set menu it should have been and no mints with coffee
Lovely restaurant. Nice, friendly staff and delicious food too. Our table of three had steak and there wasn't a morsel left on the plate! The only grump was that the specials weren't pointed out to us and, when we did notice and changed our order, were told a few minutes later that the specials we'd ordered were off. Otherwise, we would certainly dine there again and recommend to others.
I have had excellent food and wine at Brasserie Vacherin on a number of occasions and this didn't disappoint. The service was also very good. I've only docked a mark for the music being too loud though that's typical of many restaurants unfortunately. I like to talk to my friends not shout at them.
Great food and Service was nice and friendly. Very romantic atmosphere. We Will definitely stop by again in thr future. Keep up the good work!
Lovely evening & really good food. The one small exception was the cling film in the anchovy butter! Lobsters looked very small for the money so we went with the Chateaubriand instead!
Beautiful venue, and fantastic staff, it's such a shame that I left feeling let down by the food. Although the starter (ham) and dessert (chocolate pot) were lovely, the steak I had for my main was so tough & chewy, it left my jaw aching and I couldn't finish it. Perhaps a bad day? Who's knows, I would be willing to try again but I definitely wouldn't order steak.
First class - lovely staff, delicious food, very nice ambiance and we are always very well looked after. Highly recommend. We shall certainly return and return.
Very friendly staff who were charming and helpful when I knocked over my glass of wine! The food was good if unexceptional, with delicious well cooked scallops and steak. The Raspberry Bellini was fresh tasting and perfect for Spring. Perhaps a change to the menu, with less is more. Overall a good meal but a little overpriced.
This was my first visit to the Vacherin Brasserie in Croydon and we had a reservation for four but sadly one could not make it. The restaurant were completely unfazed by this and we had an excellent experience. The young lady who greeted us and took care of us through our pre-drinks and dinner was very caring and attentive. The drinks were served perfectly and the meal was excellent. I would highly recommend and will certainly return.
Fantastic food, drinks and service yet again. We'll certainly be back very soon, as we can always guarantee a great experience at this local restaurant.
Very attentive and friendly service. Food was delicious and attractively served. The house red was better than many more expensive wines elsewhere. The restaurant is.definitely worth the top score.
The food was excellent and the staff friendly and very courteous. The premises look smart and clean and the service is speedy, although it wasn't busy when we got there as we were having an early dinner with the kids. Not cheap, but worth visiting on special occasions. Would definitely go back in future.
Very good food and some friendly personal service for a group of four. Chateaubriand expensive, but worth it. Also had a pretty good wine list.
This is one of my favourite restaurants. A very good menu, a very attractive ambience. Service is usually excellent and all that has stopped me giving maximum marks is that on this visit we requested water when our coffee was served but eventually, when none was brought, my companion went off to find a waitress to ask for it. I recommend this restaurant for lunch and dinner and for special occasions.
Food and service was excellent - the background music was a bit too loud for our taste - price overall was average - would recommend
Nobody offered to take our jackets on arrival. Waitresses seemed a bit hassled and we waited too long in between the starter and main meal. However we enjoyed the starter. The main meal was nice but could have been hotter. Music a bit too fast whilst eating.
We were greeted politely on arrival and shown to a table In the bar area where we had drinks whilst waiting for our guests to arrive. Service was OK but every time we wanted a drink or to see the menu I had to find a member of staff to serve us. After ordering, we were told that two of our orders were not available. Table was very pleasantly presented and with ample room for four diners. Wine presented professionally. All food chosen from Prix fixed brunch menu. Starters of squid (chewey with little taste) smoked salmon (so thin almost see-through). Three main courses of traditional roast beef (well received) and chicken breast in tarragon and lemon (bland). Most annoying of all was that I went to order a second bottle of wine, only to be told that our first was their last!! Desserts and coffee followed. Overall an underwhelming experience in a restaurant I had previously visited and enjoyed.
It's a shame. We have eaten here many times since the restaurant opened. This time there were 8 of us for a pre-Xmas celebration. The service was poor even though the restaurant was almost empty. Restaurant was cold until we asked for heating to be put on. One example of poor service occurred with the main course. The service bell rang but we were not served, so we assumed it was for someone else. Some time later the crockery for our starters were removed and our main courses were brought in. We mentioned this to the manageress who made no comment. Some of the food was quite cool but most people were hungry so ate it anyway. The worst issue was two rare steaks. I tasted mine and decided it was not pleasant at that temperature. The steaks were returned only to reappear re-cooked - obviously no longer 'rare' steaks. These were once again returned and replaced - this time with fresh pieces of meat. One was perfect, the other was one third gristle (the price of this one was removed from the bill). One portion of 'main course' risotto was so small we had to emulate 'Oliver' and ask for more. Bread was requested 3 times before any appeared. The only reason I am writing this review is that after so many excellent meals over so many years, on this occasion we had a very disappointing lunch. Our annual family get together always entails a meal in a good restaurant sometimes at Brasserie Vacherin (and its previous incarnation - Fish and Grill). We will think twice before revisiting but I am sure we will, as other visits had been very good.
We arrived a little early but this wasn't a problem so we got seated very quickly. We were offered an aperitif and some bread which we ordered - one Pernod and one Kir Royale - the waitress said that the cocktails which included Kir Royale were on 50% off until 8pm. I thought this was a nice added bonus. When we ordered these she took our wine glasses away without asking if we wanted wine. She soon returned with our drinks. A little bit later she came back to take our order - she then told me that the Kir Royale wasn't on 50% and quite abruptly said "but you didn't know it was 50% off when you ordered it did you?" I was quite taken aback by her attitude which was very rude. We then ordered a bottle of wine and our meals. When the wine came out she had to get someone else to get the glasses as she had removed them earlier. She asked if we would like to taste the wine and I said I would. She poured a small amount (as is normal) for me to taste and I said yes it was fine. She then poured a glass for my partner and then looked at me and said "oh do you want some too?" I was really taken aback by her manner - way too aggressive for this role. Our starters came out a little later but we still hadn't received our bread. So we had to ask another waitress for it and it came quite quickly after that. Our meals came later on and i had ordered a side of mushrooms - however she had written it down as mash potato so this came out wrong. Luckily one of the other waiters replaced it for me with no problem. The meal itself was lovely and I can't fault the quality of the food and drinks. Our experience was just marred by the attitude of this waitress. It was a shame as everyone else seemed to have really good waiting staff - except us!
