We are regulars at The Bird In Hand and our previous visit was only 2 weeks ago. This time seemed different - as if they were going through some sort of transition. Will try another visit in 3 or 4 weeks to see if they return to their usual standard.
Service was surprisingly poor and outrageously slow. Food was warm at best. Sorry experience.
Warm welcome with a nice friendly atmosphere and great food.
Good service and good food also nice place to visit
Prompt service. Friendly and cheerful waiting staff. Enjoyed Sunday roast with good choice of vegetables.
Service alittle slow but was busy! Alittle small on portions
It was good we were a late sitting so felt the staff were hurrying us up a bit with the aim of getting home. Menu needs a refresh
Good food attentive waitress enjoyed by all of us today
Lovely roast, though the crackling was missing from our plates, if you’re going to charge 10p to have a yorkie, (which we didn’t mind) you should make sure everything else is on the plate.. wine by the glass ridiculous at £11.50!
Food tasty & just about enough but a bit expensive compared to other places locally. Service good. Would revisit.
The worst meal we have had in UK! The hamburger was terrible, overcooked and dry with no taste at all, stale bread roll The pear crumble was disgusting with Packet custard. It was out last night before returning to Australia what a disappointment ! Really disgraceful ! No No
Went for lunch, which consisted of the burger and a creme brûlée. The burger was nicely cooked and came with thin fries rather than chips which (unless you eat them first) as a minor go cold before you can finish the burger. In my view the desert wasn’t great, firstly the brûlée came with a shortbread biscuit, now the biscuit was nice but was sweet and so took all toll the sweetness out of the brûlée, in addition it had hardly any other taste (vanilla or otherwise) and so really just ended up eating it for the sake of it, rather than enjoying it.
Member don Waiting staff (Rita) was attentive friendly and asked just the right questions. However one of our meals was jot up to their usual standard - the pork was cold and the cracklings was chewy and fatty. Not crisp as usual. Although Rita apologised Nothing was done or even a coffee given to acknowledge. We don’t expect this discourtesy from the kitchen not to acknowledge sending a £17 meal out like this
Lovely food and great service, would recommend anyone to go there
Delicious food I had a perfect pork roast with crackling. The service from our waitress whose name I forgot to get was outstanding very attentive and friendly. The pub/restaurant is a beautiful place to eat it feels so warm and cosy and friendly would recommend a visit highly and will return
Not the usual high standard. Staff were lovely but the tonic in GnTs was flat (really? How could you not know?) burger was practically inedible and peppercorn sauce had more peppercorns than sauce
Having booked the restaurant we were initially directed to where bar meals are served. After complaining that this was not what was required/booked we were placed into the restaurant. There were a couple of hic hups with the contents of what was ordered compared to what ended up on the plate, but this was quickly rectified by the Waiter. The food was ok but not outstanding/memorable which the price demanded.
Great food and service as ever thank you to a great team
Scotch egg starters and calamari were delicious. Fish n chips massive and tasty. Fish pie could have been a bigger portion but on the whole lovely meal.
Service very slow even though we had an early table booked and restaurant not busy. Portion sizes have reduced since last visit...
Great food and really good service - will definitely be back
I took my husband for his birthday lunch and was happy with what we had.
Waitress forgot to say the pork belly was off- so 3 of our group spent time choosing it only to be told then that it was off so having to choose again. First bottle of water was free but the second cost 50p. Bit draughty nearish to the door. Tomatoes left off the starter. Pleasant atmosphere.
Service was good, although the gluten meal ordered without the Yorkshire pudding arrived with one and had to be sent back. The portion sizes were a little on the small side and the pink roast beef was not pink at all. As a result we decided to go somewhere else for dessert.
Very lucky to have this little gem on our doorstep.
Bottle of red wine was cold and not at room temp.also had to wait about 30mins for dessert.very disappointing
Food disappointing not much choice, change of chef, service poor.

fast service and very good food very good value h
Great food and excellent service. We will return again soon.
Nice atmosphere lovely food and very friendly service thank you
The tables are a little close together. When only half of the restaurant is full, they could seat customers a little further apart.
Good service generally. Xmas dinner not great, no cranberry sauce. Liver bacon dinner was good
We chose this restaurant as it was recommended by someone and we will pass the word to other friends.
Roast was a bit bland. By all accounts the starters were good. Pear crumble was a crumble topping with some warm pear. Didn’t feel like an actual dessert. Service was fantastic though.
We thoroughly enjoyed the food and choice of menu. Excellent service from Katie.
Joint birthday celebration for myself and husband. Food excellent and staff warm and friendly. Perfect lunch.
Really great food with friendly, fabulous service. Thank you. :)
disappointing the fish pie was very poor and brownie not even warmed through and dry. atmosphere nice.
A very enjoyable evening, food and service where fantastic, Plus one of our party is gluten free which they cater for on there menu.
Beautiful food and lovely staff have already rebooked in November
Superb roast lunch, excellent service. Nice atmosphere. Would definitely recommend.
Lovely atmosphere, great service and the food was amazing. Highly recommend
Great ambience, great food, good service. A little cramped by our table
We came for 3 sunday roasts and were not disappointed! They were delicious and the service was excellent. Loved sitting by the roaring fire surrounded by families and dogs. Our only constructive feedback would be that the roasts could have been a little warmer and the beef a little pinker, but we appreciate that you were so busy!!
A very lovely pub. The food is great and the staff are extremely polite and helpful. Will definitely be going back again.
Perfect! Lovely atmosphere. Pricey, but you get what you pay for
A nice place, good food, good atmosphere. A bit expensive.
Excellent food and service. We had an early lunch before it was very busy. Will definitely be going again.
