Really nice food. Vegetables were cooked perfectly, the steak & ale pies were delicious. We were very impressed at the free pint of Timothy Taylor’s beer with our dinner, and amazed at the voucher for a free half pint per person in our room. Bar staff and restaurant staff were happy, attentive, quick and courteous...pretty well perfect. The pub was bustling, and we’re not at all surprised why that’s the case! This is a lovely town pub where service and quality are absolute priorities - excellent! All pubs should be this good!

Great food but poor seating plan as too many tables squashed together so very cramped eating plan. Water was not offered at any point of the meal Check back was not done and no extra drinks were offered

We joined in with steak night both of us having rump steaks medium and medium well done. The medium well done was closer to medium but still very nice. Both steaks came with coffee of potatoes - we had hand cut chips which were freshly cooked. My only complaint would be that any other side eg tomato or mushrooms were extra and also the sauces which were on the thin consistency side. The plates of food went down very well and not too much. A bonus of having a bottle of wine at no charge - choice of any wine. We will visit again.

The food was absolutely delicious for my meal and the portion size was great. Would have been a 6 but the portions of some other meals was a little but small in comparison such as fish and chips and sausage and mash.

We reserved a table, on line, the day before our visit. Our table was ready and we were served immediately. The menu was comprehensive. I had the pate and blade of beef. Both were of expensive restaurant standard. My only regret is that I was too full for a desert! Service was excellent.

As excellent as always. Noise level slightly excessive because of two rather loud children at a nearby table but this did not spoil our evening in any way. No screaming babies.

We were told there was a 20-25 minute wait for roasts, on a Sunday, We waited for over 45 minutes. The food was mediocre, it was not hot. nobody did a check back. we ordered a second round of drinks, all soft and asked for soda in the cordial and we were given water in the cordial. There didn't seem to be many waiting on staff.

The place is fine but the food lets it down. My meal (steak pie) was dry and the vegetables were dried-out and tasteless. My wife’s burger was poor quality and was very poorly presented. Our guests chose mushy peas with their fish and got a very small pot of green liquid....no discernible peas in there just liquid. All in all a poor dining experience.

Fish & chips good; Gammon steak very good; chicken ceasar salad average. It wasa a salad, OK, but a proper chicken ceasar salad should have warm chunky pieces of chicken (they were cold) , anchovies, proper ice-berg lettuce and parmesan sprinkled. This had none of those.

Our stay was lovely. The room was very small but cozy. The only bad thing was our shower, I slipped and had a bit of a fall, the shower floor was so slippery.

Had to wait nearly an hour for our food to come out which was not really acceptable. People who came in after us had finished their meals by the time our food came out. The food was nice although a lot of items on their menu they had run out of.

service was poor. young lady took our order of two steaks. I asked for sauteed baby potatoes. meal came. was boiled potatoes. waited 40mins for food in an empty restaurant. Husband had a blue cheese sauce. it was just a cheap cheese sauce. nothing "stilton-ish" about it. realised after 40mins of waiting there was a sign saying Friday 24th may 2 steaks and get free bottle of wine. no one had told me so i had to ask. was too late to drink it so had to take it home. husbands chips seemed stale and over cooked. so crispy he couldn't cut them up and they were crispy on outside and full of air on inside. his steak was also very fatty. mine wasn't too bad. come here 1 year ago and meal was out of this world. tonight we resented paying the 48 pounds but we're too polite/embarrassed to complain. wont return
