Good but not great. Our main courses were excellent, starters were good although my crab claws had the flavourlessness of long-frozen meat. The tart I had for pudding was awful: pastry could have been made of concrete, filling some sort of sweet, glutinous stuff. The crumble was good though. Pleasant service.

Underwhelming would be the word I would use for this visit, the starter was so cold it was tasteless and when I mentioned this to the waitress I received a barrage of an answer back from the kitchen, just take the comment on the chin and don’t assume your customer is stupid or have the balls to come out yourself. The roast was also just middling but I wasn’t going to be insulted again by saying anything more. A shame, we have had some really nice food here previously.

Lovely atmosphere and prices ok. Wasn't overly impressed with the vegan starter. Humus didn't have much taste. Venison, all though lovely didn't come with anything like chips ( although I was offered some when I asked where they were) I didn't accept as would have had to wait. Dessert was delicious (Brownie) but on the small side. Would go back but probably not to eat.

Super food &Services. Just a shame all meals didn't come out at the same time! 5 of us ate half our meal before the 6th meal was brought out.

Food amazing, service really good and friendly. Table wasn’t the nicest location (near toilets, kitchen entrance and right next to another 2 seater. Chair was a little low for the table.

Lovely starter, main course acceptable but pudding awful. No charge for the pudding. Accepted by staff and chef that not right. Undecided whether I'll go back

Great food. Was fairly busy for a Sunday lunchtime so service was a little slow, but worth the wait. We got a great table by the window with plenty of space so we were really comfortable. There was a band on early evening so it did get a little noisy.

We had the roast beef which was very good although the vegetables could have been a touch warmer but overall great service and atmosphere will definitely be going back.

What a lovely place and friendly staff. Food was delicious portions weren't over facing and the chocolate pudding was amazing! Will certainly be back again in the near future!

It would of been better if they had what I wanted to order in stock. They were a bit awkward when I specifically went for the Sunday roast and wanted chicken but they only had roast beef available which I couldn't eat since I don't eat red meat. But my partner ordered lemon chicken so they did have chicken in that they could of used. I also wanted chunky fries which I noticed on someone else's table which looked nice but I was told they had run out. So a bit disappointed with our visit.

Good food with interesting dishes. It is a pub that serves restaurant quality food so do not expect to be seated as you would be in a restaurant, however, the food and service is a lot better than most restaurants I have been to.

The drinking glasses were dirty. We had one 8oz sirloin and 5oz rump and both were cooked pretty well done when we ordered medium rare and medium and both had a lot of grizzle so not very enjoyable. Some of the staff were not very smiley...

Excellent food (Sunday roast) and locally sourced, great service and nice laid back atmosphere, although it was a pub, it felt more like a restaurant, will definitely go again.

Everything that a pub with food should be. Try the Malva Pudding. Good staff and kitchen. Mix of pub classics and unusual dishes. You may need to book.

Room a little bit small but perfectly fine for the 2 of us. It was spotlessly clean, all the bedding, curtains, towels etc. really good quality. Hot water whenever we wanted. Nice choice of teas and coffees plus hot chocolate and biscuits. Breakfast was excellent as was our evening meal. Only criticism was it was a bit noisy from traffic and people outside. We like to sleep with the window open. Couldn't hear noise from the pub itself. All the staff we had dealings with were really nice and friendly and very helpful. Yes parking is limited but we managed to park for both nights with no problem. Had a really stay despite the terrible weather

The food was amazing. The only thing that spoiled the experience was the loud live music, love music but jazz isn't my thing. We found it very difficult to talk to each other and at time ended up shouting to be heard.

My, Lancaster Uni student, son and I enjoyed our Sunday lunch. Our first visit, would return. Grateful they did a small portion for me. Staff friendly and efficient. Enjoyed the choice/genre of music, but a bit loud for me as I have hearing aids, hence the noise score. Staff did offer to turn the volume down.

The friend I was meeting was delayed for over an hour, due to circumstances beyond her control, and although the pub was busy, the staff were all very accommodating and I felt under no pressure whatsoever. I ordered the humus and pitta bread to nibble while I waited and it was the tastiest humus I've ever had. My friend and I both agreed the roast beef dinner was worth waiting for; everything on the well-laden plate was delicious! Thank you.

This is a charming place to spend time. The staff are more than lovely and the food is amazing. Possibly a victim of its own success in that on Sunday at a 1730 table, no roasts left (and trust me better than mother makes and the mother makes a fair roast!), few other things also absent from the menu but still a fair selection and I enjoyed every mouthful. Definitely my favourite place to eat & drink in Lancaster (possibly anywhere)..Enjoy ..

Lovely location and decor. Menu, food and service all good. Table wasn't ready when we arrived which was also handled well. When we were seated though we were then asked to move to another table owing to a double booking. Won't stop us going back.
