Lovely old cosy pub The food was beautifully presented but not all that glitters is gold, the potatoes were hard I think they pre prepare a few hours before the taste was not there
Delicious and interesting food including unusual and tasty vegetarian options. I had Manchester tart for dessert not something you often see on the menu but I had fond memories of it from school days. It did not disappoint it was a Manchester tart taken to a different level. The service was friendly and efficient if a little slow but we were in no hurry anyway. We'll definitely be back.
Table position was not the best as people were passing very close as there was a group of people sitting up at the bar again very close to our table. Meal was very good as was the attention provided by staff
Had the roast dinner which was very tasty but not very hot when served. We drove about 40 miles to try this restaurant and probably wouldn't visit again.
We wanted to show an American friend a typical English pub which served good food. We got so much more - quiet atmosphere, gracious service, and wonderful food.
excellent food and service, well cooked, as people wanted and coped very well with a large party! have been here twice before and same great choices and helpful, patient staff
It was excellent food would defenetly recommend eating here the stay was brilliant will be coming again soon .so if you fancy a break away this is the place to go
Great service and delicious food. Staff were very friendly and attentive and the food was beautifully presented and tasted as good. Would definitely go back.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere - best rack of lamb I've eaten in long time. Well done chef! - - - -- -- -- --
The Staff were all very good. The restaurant is a little out of Hathersage - but in the summer is one of the few resturants that has tables available - and we booked in advance, which I would recommend. The restaurant was very busy - and the food was good. I would recommend eating here - and I would certainly return.
Excellent staff. Food as good as ever. A lovely place for a leisurely lunch. It is always well worth the journey from Huddersfield to visit The Plough.
I ordered the crab risotto. Was not impressed and was over loaded with lemon flavouring. Service was good along with ambience. Very quick service. Good came within 10 minutes
A friendly welcome, good surroundings, good food (Sunday lunch). Service a tad slow and confused at times (young waiting/serving staff). Roasts accompanied by tasteless, consomme-like gravy, when thicker, more robust gravy would have been much better and, hopefully, tastier.
5 of us enjoyed an excellent meal at the Plough and the service was friendly and efficient. The landlord made our French guest welcome, even finding some Pastis for him to drink. We have eaten here several times and are never disappointed.
A nice restaurant that served decent food. My steak was well cooked and the service was absolutely fine. No complaints at all. My salad for a starter was a little bit pretentious in its presentation, but that is all.
Very friendly staff, great food and local beers and atmosphere...hope to go back again when the weather is better to sit out in the gardens
A very good meal indeed, marred only by my annoyance of having to pay extra for vegetables as you do initaly and there being only minuscule amounts of custard with the rhubarb tart!
Booked for a table at 7pm on Sunday 14th May and when we arrived I was told that serving finished at 6pm. Not happy at all.
A fabulous Saturday lunch. Genial Hosting good service great food a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Over the years we have always enjoyed our visits to The Plough.
Staff were friendly and helpful, atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Food was excellent and cooked fresh and good range of real ales on draught. Pub is also dog friendly!
Up market gastro pub with accompanying up market prices. Comfortable seating, pleasant staff, good food but rather expensive. No a la carte available Sunday lunchtime.
Prices quite steep but our table, service and food although decent did not reflect the cost of the meal for a Sunday lunch. Delivers better on Bar-snack type fare where prices are more competitive
Very welcoming drinks and auderves present on table very attentive staff all the food was good except the turkey was dry and the veg hard
On a cold and rainy New Year's Day The Plough Inn was a perfect venue for our family get together. There was a log fire and plenty of space for our party of four grown ups and four kids. It felt a bit like a smart pub, but it was cosy and welcoming. The food was very good. The beef was cooked to a turn, the Guinea Fowl fell off the bone nicely and the vegetarian Puy Lentils were delicious. Good beer (Sheffield Brewery's Moonshine) and proper desserts. Nice.
This was a special night out just before Christmas and was ruined by below average and vastly overpriced food. The place was virtually empty (no doubt a reflection of the prices and quality) and there was no atmosphere at all. We will definitely not be going to the Plough again.
With a roaring g stove on a wet and windy pre-Exmas lunch timr, the friendly welcome and service complemented the excellent Xmas menu. The meal was a delight and the expense justified the taste sensation. Overall, an excellent experience and fully recommended.
Our service was exceedingly delayed, and whilst the portions were good the green vegetables seemed very overcooked and well past there best. It was a Sunday but the kitchen did not seem to match the covers. If we go again hopefully it will be less busy and more able to cope
Really nice pub, nice atmosphere (good Christmas decorations!) Really very tasty food. The only downside was there wasn't quite enough toast with the very generous portion of paté!
It was excellent. There was a big party there and it was noisy but this was inevitable in the circumstances. Service was rather slow but good. I'd certainly recommend it and go again.
Arrived to to lovely warm friendly atmosphere .Great menu , lots of choice. We had the roast beef and it was fantastic , perfect Sunday lunch.
Food very tasty, but all the waiters seemed to be a little rushed, with not much attention to detail. Otherwise really nice pub, and we will try it again soon.
Lovely pub/restaurant we found in summer and sat outside. There is a great garden. Went for dinner last night. Plenty of dishes to choose from and a beautiful amuse Boucher. Half of restaurant being redecorated but did not detract.
A warm welcome. Efficient and attentive service. Great food in a comfortable environment. Will certainly return. Next time hope to stop at the Plough for a couple of nights
The food was tasty And there was good local beer, equally there was a nice atmosphere in a traditional country pub. However the service was very slow and it took over /hours to complete a 2 course meal
Good food, friendly efficient staff, a bit pricy but overall very good. Good food friendly efficient staff, a bit pricy but overall very good. We would go again.
My wife and I had our wedding breakfast at the Plough Inn, seven years ago. I am pleased to say the food served is still excellant as is the service and the atmosphere is still warm and friendly.
We went for sunday lunch and the food was generally good but not excellent. The wait for the main course, and the following puddings, was long - a 2-course meal took over 2 and a half hours - and the pub was not even particularly busy. The staff - with the exception of the barman - did not seem to be enjoying their job!!
Booking was seamless, just disappointed by the lack of attentiveness/memory by the bar/service staff - dined around 6pm on a Sunday - food was good.
We arrived an hour early but the staff were still able to accommodate us. The staff were very polite and friendly and made us feel welcome. All the meals were excellent, served piping hot and well presented. Good value for the money. I will certainly eat there again.
A thoroughly enjoyable experience, went there to celebrate a family birthday and had a wonderful meal complemented by and excellent host, his partner and staff. will certainly return.
We enjoyed excellent food. The service was slightly slow this time, though that is generally unusual for them. The staff are very helpful and pleasant.
Very well furnished, clean and comfortable suite. Very attractive surroundings in the Peak District. Restaurant providing good quality meals. Attractive and well-maintained gardens. Bob and Cynthia are very courteous and friendly hosts. This is the fifth time we have stayed here
Good food small portions, lack of vegetables etc unless you order extra sides, staff very friendly and helpful , some of the decor needs attention, toilets need modernising,
We always go to The Plough Inn for birthdays and special occasions - never disappointed - menu always changing - beautiful food and staff. Thank you
Food good , service truly awful, food took ages, would not recommend. Head barman/waiter was more interested in chatting up his blonde companion than doing his job
The food was excellent and my request for a small quantity of pasta was met. The service was somewhat leisurely and the drinks were expensive.
Good food, friendly service and nice relaxed atmosphere. It isn't cheap but the food is quite sophisticated and well cooked. They welcome dogs and walkers.
Our party of 8 was warmly welcomed to the Plough, and staff had arranged a suitable table on the terrace, assuring us that if it was, too hot there, they would be happy for us to have a table in the restaurant. Service was friendly and efficient, the food was excellent and it was very clear that the chef sourced high quality produce. The pub was very busy at lunchtime and I was very glad that we had booked. I'm sure that evening dining in the restaurant would be a wonderful experience!
We had an excellent meal in lovely old surroundings. The bacon veloute was superb and the sea bream was very tasty. U fortunately we were too full for puddings but they did look tempting.
Lovely food and a great atmosphere as usual. It was busy so there was a little wait between courses, but not too long. Still a favourite of ours and a great place to take weekend guests.
