The Pear Tree is one of those London gems that you’re excited to arrive at and happy to sit inside all day. It’s about as classically British as you could wish to find in terms of the food as well as the decor – probably because it’s one of the oldest buildings in the area – and on Margravine Road in Hammersmith, the location is perfect, too. Sit amongst solid wood furniture, open fireplaces and huge original windows, and if you happen to be stopping by once the sun has gone down then on top of all that you’ll the enjoy the intimacy and warmth that’s created by candlelight and lots of little lamps scattered around the place. Quite simply, The Pear Tree is beautiful.
As is the food for that matter, as the menu is made up of pub classics that do their bit in flying The Pear Tree’s flag high as one of the last remaining independently-owned free houses in West London. People come from all over Barons Court, Fulham and Hammersmith to enjoy British dishes in the way of sausage and mash with red wine sauce, beer-battered catch of the day with hand cut chips, chicken kiev with fries and garden peas or chilli con carne. There are, of course, plenty of vegetarian options at The Pear Tree as well as a well-stocked bar that’s manned with a smile at all times. London pubbing doesn’t get much better than this.
