Food and service are both absolutely excellent - I've not had better in Newcastle but a bit more work needs to be done to the furnishings: - My chair had a very rough bit at the edge, if I had been wearing a delicate skirt or dress or even tights it would have almost certainly snagged - The toilet handle didn't work properly - The dark walls all over could do with being brightened in some places as its a bit oppressive - The outside could do with smart ending up, I know you maybe want to go for a shabby chic look but scruffier than Santana's next door isn't good. Only bothering to say the above as this is a really great restaurant, with excellent staff, but the owner needs to do just a bit of smart ending up
Fabulous food - really innovative combinations and great flavours. Friendly service too. We'll be back. Highly recommend a visit. We went for Saturday lunch, where it's all sharing plates so we got to try most things on the menu. All excellent
The food was fantastic although the menu only had 5 or so choices for each course and they had ran out of one of the mains. Decor a bit basic. Would definitely return.
Fab food, staff and ambience. What a lovely evening. Nothing too showy, just excellent ingredients, prepared and cooked by a chef that clearly knows his stuff. Our first visit but definitely in the Newcastle top 5.
First visit which was for our wedding anniversary. We loved the friendly welcome and the staff were great throughout. We got served a complementary glass of bubbly when we said we were celebrating and the food was wonderful. Will definitely revisit thanks
The food was delicious, the service attentive and the background music excellent. Superb wine list, and although the choice of food is limited, everything we chose was extremely tasty. Will we go back? Yes - when the menu is a little more extensive.
Exceptional food. Well presented. Knowledgeable staff. Lunch consists of "tapas" dishes. Highly recommend the epoisse sandwich, Brussels sprouts and the mussels. You must try it!!
The perfect restaurant for local foodies. The constantly changing menu is always exciting, the staff charming and friendly, and the atmosphere relaxed. After five visits, I've yet to receive a plate of food that wasn't exceptional.
Was taken aback. Modest restaurant, modest prices. Absolutely outstanding food. The roasted beetroots with truffle shavings was one of the best starters I can remember eating in a long time. Full compliments to the chef...
Really nice restaurant - great food, lovely wine, friendly staff, good service, but.... shocking music (Madonna, power ballads.... why?) Didn't spoil our evening but the Muzak needs to be sorted
Outstanding Sunday lunch from start to finish. Every dish screamed quality, full of flavour & perfectly presented. Personal service front of house. A must visit
Very good food different to and better than most Sunday roasts in the area. Nice range of veg, quality meat, excellent wine choices but the gravy maketh the meal. Decent knowledgeable service and nice atmosphere. It's not a pub but even so the beer selection could be improved. Overall an excellent meal.
Lovely food and good service . Nice changing menu so always different food on each visit. Nice to see the kitchen working whilst you are eating
Simply the best restaurant in Newcastle. Nick and his team never fail to impress with seasonal well thought out menus and a natural wine list to rival any. I cannot recommend this place enough.
We had the three course set menu. As it usually happens with some places this was a bit underwhelming as the presentation of the dishes is not to the standard of the regular prices and the dessert was quite boring. You can make pana cotta exciting. The service is great! I would have put a bit more care with the main room's decoration too. It was good but not great.
Excellent service matched with the wonderful food. The hoggett was definitely a high point along. Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant it self thanks for a lovely early evening
Delicious food, Great service and a relaxed atmosphere. The beetroot starter was particularly delicious. Thanks to all the staff for a lovely evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
Food was nice, service was good. Very quiet on a Sunday. And very dark! Switch a light on or paint the place a different colour.
Delightful food, impressive wine list with a wide variety of choice. Friendly staff and a really enjoyable atmosphere. We loved it and will be back
Great food and ambience. The wine choice is excellent. The quality of the food is superb and the execution of the food is spot on.
Really friendly staff. Early evening menu was £25 for 3 courses. I had chicken liver pate. Hint of brandy, perfectly smooth and served with toasted brioche - so generous I took half home in a doggie bag! Crab and tomato pasta was dainty and delicious and pana cotta with a great wobble. First trip. Will not be the last.
