Food was excellent. Fresh and attractively presented. Scotch egg with black pudding - warm and tasty. Fish moist and tender. Dark chocolate mousse to die for. Companion enjoyed the soup, fell on the battered fish and chunky chips and devoured the assorted ice cream. Bottle of Pinot Grigio crisp and refreshing. Server Niahm was friendly, chatty and attentive. A great way to spend a lingering lunch.
Ordered off menu. Great tasty dishes but attention to detail was lacking for some. Scallops starter had two perfectly cooked scallops, but came with too much pea puree and too little black pudding. While for lamb main the menu listed feta wrapped in potato, however the dish came with one while the rest of the feta came unwrapped. On a plus note desserts were divine - as standard for the Monro. We haven't visited the Monro for a while, although not disappointed we weren't overwhelmed, just need to finesse petitioning.
Fabulous and interesting food. The menu was so good it was hard to choose! Great service. Always a warm welcome. Roaring log fire-very welcome on a cold dismal day!
My first visit was very disappointing. I ordered the stone bass, portion was very small, the potatoes were warm so I sent meal back. By the time they brought it back (I had to remind them !) my husband had finished his meal at a leisurely pace. So overall it wasn't a good experience for me, they did apologise and did not charge us for a glass of wine & small beer. Would not return.
Excellent food. Excellent staff. Really nice wine that was very reasonably priced. Just about as good as it gets in Liverpool. Visited for Saturday lunch and it seemed like a perfect time, not too busy, not too quiet with a full menu on offer.
Lovely food and great atmosphere. Steak was only lukewarm and needs to be warmer, but I wouldn't let that stop me going again. I can highly recommend this Gastropod.
Lovely setting ,fantastic food and service , cocktails were great too .Very early for our reservation but made very welcome by the staff ,great value
Had steak medium. Came it was still mooing. It was raw Lamb dish was very fatty and not worth the price as portion was tiny.
Once again, lovely food, cozy surroundings and warm, friendly staff. My wife and I really love our early evening dinners with you and trying the different options on your weekend menu each time we come is a delight. Looking forward to our next visit already!
Satisfactory meal. Staff helpful throughout. Expected it to be very busy pre - Christmas but. Remained comfortable. Nice round table for our group of 6.
Lovely place, log fire burning , great atmosphere & the sirloin steak is to die for! Couldn't fault anything. Book table as gets busy even on week nights
The monro is supposed to be a gastro pub but it isn't. It falls far short both on originality and quality. My recent visit was poor buy given the replies from the manager I have down graded it to terrible. Looking at the various customer review sites the manager is always eager to answer but never takes the criticism in a constructive manner. Instead he harps on about how wonderful things are. He has his head in the sand and unless things are going to change this place is doomed.
Have been to Monro's many times and had a lovely roast, however their Xmas meal was very poor indeed. It appeared processed and undercooked and tasteless. Not worth £50 at all, for a couple. Very disapointed and will not go back after that.
Heard mixed reviews about the Monro. SO glad I booked. The atmosphere was great. Food fantastic and desserts amazing. Staff were helpful and polite. Not as expensive for 4 people as I thought. Definitely will return.
Lovely food and environment to drink and unwind in. Menu isn't very extensive but we found dishes like we liked after waiting a while for our table to be ready.
Nice place, nice staff but food was terrible. I have been here in the past and the food was really good, but they must have lost their way because the food was diabolical. The people on the next table sent their food back twice, before the changed their option to Fish and Chips, not much can go wrong with Fish and chips.
The staff were not the most attentive but the food was delicious. Really good value for money, 2 courses for under £15! Lovely atmosphere too.
Food was Average! I have had better in Weatherspoon's. Not worth the money for Pub Grub. Bottles of wine was expensive for a pub. Would not return!
We have been to the Monroe on a number of occasions and today's experience was not as previous visits. The menu was a little uninspiring. However, the staff and service were good.
The Food was good, well presented & reasonably priced, attentive service without being overbearing. Been to The Monroe on a few occasions & have aways enjoyed the experience.
Had found this restaurant in the '10 best places for Sunday Roast' in Liverpool. Ambiance was really charming: warm décor, with a roaring log fire, and very friendly welcome. Food itself was a bit of a disappointment: should have asked for a steak knife, had a hard time getting through the rather tough meat, potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were on the over-cooked side as well. Shame, would have liked to come back, but if we're going to spend the money, we'd rather do it somewhere where we keep fond memories of the food as well.
We all enjoyed our starter. As for the main meal we were all very disappointed. I ordered steak medium to well done but was raw and luke warm, I sent it back only to find it was cold but served with fresh chips. I complained about the meal and ordered fish and chips. At this stage everyone else had finished their meals of which they were disappointed but did not want to complain. A couple on the next table also told us they were disappointed with their meal. (They also had steak and it was luke warm) I suggest the chief needs lessons on cooking steak. My fish and chips were nice but by the time it came I had gone pass eating. I will not recommend Monro. I was very disappointed as several friends had recommended this place to us. On leaving I did ask one of the staff to get the manager but they never appeared.
Great service, good food as always. Only downside was that the kitchen had run out of two choices, which for a small menu is not ideal. Still overall a great dinner.
food 1st rate, service top notch. would rate this one of the best little gastro's in town.if you haven't tried, give it ago.service with a smile.
We went for Sunday lunch and ordered the 3 course set menu. We have the soup, roast beef and sticky toffee. Al 3 dishes were mediocre. Soup was bland, Beef was very fatty and the portions of meat and veg were small. Pudding was nice but nothing special. Expected more from this place after looking at the reviews and looking at the prices being charged. Atmosphere was nice and I liked the decor but food needs to be improved upon.
There was a bit of a wait before someone came for the drinks order My main was tiny. I think my reaction was 'is that it?'. This was the stone bass. Inch by three inches. There was only a garnish size worth of spinach too. I asked for a side order of mixed veg otherwise I would have been starving - which were lovely. My friend had the turkey dinner. That was stunning and beautifully cooked. The staff made amends by providing free sweets. I would have preferred more dinner though as it was tasty.
Never would go there again new year food was awful an then they couldent wait for u to get out the pub before 12 what a waist of one hundred and forty pounds
The Food was cold steak was undercooked and smoked mash was tasteless and lumpy. Although the service was excellent wait and bar staff very attentive
We really enjoyed our meal at The Monro - our first time eating in there and were very impressed. The food was very tasty and of a high quality and sldo besutifulky presented. Very good wine list too, & reasonably priced. We all enjoyed our meals & would definitely go back. Have already suggested it to friends as somewhere they would enjoy.
cosy atmosphere, excellent food, faultless service. I have been going the Monro for the past 15 years and it never fails to meet all my expections.
What can I say another fantastic meal, staff so attentive, a lovely festive relaxed atmosphere. Will certainly return again in the new year. Thank you.
Excellent food and service. Roaring log fire. Good beer. What's not to like ? Would definitely return. Log fire menu offers a good ( but not huge ) choice.
The food was delicious, it's a lovely place, really nice decor. The staff were very efficient and pleasant. My whole party thoroughly enjoyed the night.
I booked here for Sunday lunch with the family, it was excellent! The roast beef was the best I've had in ages! All the family were impressed, smiles on every face!
Not as good as it used to be, two steaks were very chewy had to be refunded, but overall a reasonable experience
Nice venue with friendly staff and food was lovely. Lunch time tho has limited menu but good value special menu. Delicious desserts. Beer garden too.
Everything about this gastro bar is excellent; food, service ,venue , well done to all concerned in it's delivery I will be returning very soon!!!

Great food and service. Korean chicken bites were full of flavour and a nice chilli kick. Relaxed atmosphere and good value for money. Will definitely return
