The Staff were pleasant but we felt that the food was fairly disappointing for the price. Dog friendly pub which is a bonus woof woof

The Merry Harriers’ staff were exceptionally warm and welcoming and it was lovely to step into this characterful country pub and have a hot mulled cider. We enjoyed a family pre-Christmas meal: everyone thoroughly enjoyed every course : tasty, warm, nicely presented, delicious! We would recommend The Merry Harriers and hope to return soon.

Beautiful spot with lovely views. plenty of parking. Staff helpful and friendly. Food satisfactory rather than good. Despite a good fire, seemed rather tired. Service good.

This is a lovely pub and the service was very good. However, the four of us who ate there didn't think the food was particularly good value for the price.

Good food and friendly service made for a pleasant dining experience. We had the fish and chips and couldn’t fault it. Followed on with the sticky toffee pudding which, although it could have been hotter, was delicious. Only downside was the room wasn’t too warm. Could’ve done with the stove being lit for extra heat but that is a minor point.

Very welcoming, even provided bowl of water for the dog. Good quality food - my soup was clearly made with a good stock base and very tasty. Rest of the food well made too. Only negative was terrible coffee which the other couple with us ordered. Beyond weak, and by the time it reached our table the waiter had spilled a lot of it into the saucer. So bad that it was left undrunk. Didn't complain at the time as the pub was busy and we needed to go, and I am sure that the fault would have been rectified if we had said.

Sadly not the best experience today. Food took over an hour to arrive (and we had to change one order half an hour after ordering as they had run out). When it eventually arrived, two out of three fish were overcooked and dry. Burgers were cooked well but the two consumers did not like the mayo that was on the top. Chips were at best, average. Not sure if this was just bad luck (very busy/understaffed?), or typical. We have eaten here on several occasions in the past (a year ago was the last time) with no particular problems. As locals, we are very well served with excellent pubs around us, so I think that The Harriers needs to up its game if it wants repeat business.

The room layout is awkward, with three separate dining areas and therefore losing the atmosphere. The decor and furnishings were old fashioned, looked like random purchases from a sale of 1950s bric a brac. The menu was unimaginitive and limited. Service was slow.

Both the service and the food are absolutely excellent. My party of five all enjoyed their lunch. We particularly appreciated the risotto which was on special.

Very welcoming and just how a local pub should be, food was excellent combined with rustic features. The accommodation they offer also looks to be well worth a stay. 5 stars please do not change.

Lovely Sunday roast, perfectly cooked roast beef and fabulous light & fluffy Yorkshire pudding, by a cosy open fire. Pleasant staff and no problem when we asked for extra gravy!

Lovely friendly little pub. Well staffed, all were attentive but not intrusive. 4 out of 5 meals were delicious. The 5th, vegetarian ‘From our Garden’ was pretentious rather than good. Would also have preferred not to have 2 damp dogs next to the table but I was the only one bothered by it. Would certainly make the effort to return. Thank you.

The only negative comment was the Limited menu choices. We went in for Sunday lunch and they only had a beef roast and it would be nice to have had chicken too. A lot of people don’t eat red meat. A couple of good salads and some fish all seemed to be missing. Three of our party went for a ploughman’s for lack of choice and I just had a prawn starter. What happened to the scampi I had seen on the menu online? Saying that the food was really nice and excellently presented so we will return but I will phone to check the menu.

Food was good, but unusual addition of strawberries with salmon, difficult to understand the addition, but perhaps i’m just not sufficiently knowledgeable ? Staff were excellent, and attentive.

Menu rather limited on a Sunday. Ran out of pickle for our cheese and pickle sandwiches. To be fair they attempted to make an alternative type of relish but it wasn’t very successful and we left a fair bit.

Disappointing fish and chips. Soggy, warm chips. Both glasses of white wine not chilled at all after mentioning the fact that we would like it chilled. Didn’t feel we were particularly welcomed.

Room in the garden area pretty small, not that clean. Dinner was good , breakfast a bit hit / miss. No wifi in the garden rooms despite repeated attempts to restart WiFi router etc

Good food, friendly staff, lovely old building with lots of character. The bedroom and bathroom were spotless, fluffy white towels and plenty toiletries. It is somewhere to visit in the winter for the log fire or in the summer to sit in the garden.

Fantastic family day out - as the only four on the trek, we had a Llama each, which made for an interesting and rewarding trek - the llamas love to eat, so the pace wasn't too much for the kids to cope with, and the Llamas we took, Diesel, Mungo, Sarji and Louis, were ideally suited to their humans ( including a 10 and 11 yr old ) no moaning about walking either ( the kids that is ) as they really had to concentrate on getting to know their Llama and making sure they went the right way - Many thanks to John, our guide for the interesting walk, the advice and encouragement along the way. Back at the pub the sunday roasts were really good - we'll back for those for sure, and made for a very restful afternoon, when we got home - would highly recommend the whole experience

Delicious food and friendly staff but they were understaffed and the waiting for everything - ordering drinks / bar service, food was very long. Children love the outdoor play area.

Disappointed pub so quiet particularly as the food (despite being limited menu) was tasty, imaginative and beautifully presented. Excellent value for money too. More people need to give it a try.

Food was good although the steak was a little over cooked, requested medium rare & was medium to well, but did enjoy what we had. Small menus but good selection & perfect for casual night out. Desserts were lovely & staff very welcoming. Felt it lacked atmosphere, a bit bright & no background music in restaurant area. We did have a good night & would return.

Good food. Service lovely but the whole area we sat in was very cold. As there was thick snow around it would have been nice if the fire had been lit.

Welcoming and inviting. I had bangers and mash, mash a bit watery and gravy a bit insipid. Lovely sausages, a warm and filling meal perfect for a winter's day. Other diner had the mushroom and nettle risotto, good feedback from that. Both had hot chocolate after - delicious!

It was freezing in the restaurant so we sat in the bar by the radiator. Proseco was pricey considering the state of the label on the bottle and label. Food was smallish portions but nice, only one other table of two in there, not much atmosphere.

Lovely pub with a very friendly atmosphere... busy bar - could have done with a few more people eating in the restaurant area, but it was Thursday night. Food lovely - wine selection could be a little more varied. Overall pretty good though.

We had a great time at The Merry Harriers - the atmosphere was exactly what we wanted, traditional old pub. They have a great selection of real ales and beer and a good selection of wine. We had a lovely meal and thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

Excellent food, great beers and great hosts. We stayed in the adjoining campsite and they were extremely accomodating. We had a great time at both the pub and campsite.
