Fresh produce, small menu, excellent service. Food well presented and tasty. Will be recommending to family and friends. suggest you book ahead to secure a table.
Friendly welcome, warm fire on a cold night and scrumptious food. What more can I say apart from good to see you have the Lemon Posset back on the menu
great service and lovely food. I had the fish and chips and it was delicious. cannot fault anything. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and you are made to feel very welcome and special.
Yet another superb meal at the warm and cosy Malt Shovel. There is always a warm welcome from the lovely staff too. Looking forward to our next visit already!
Excellent food and excellent service. Position of table we were offered was poor despite being virtually empty. Very cramped. Needs some money spending on it - outside appearance is poor with planters hanging off the wall and the toilets are very substandard for a place charging this amount for food.
I found the Malt shovel on the Internet we were staying at Nidd Hall for the weekend and this was our first day so I was looking for nice place to eat. Never been there before but I liked the decor so booked it. We were not disappointed, the service was excellent and food was excellent too. We had lovely welcome. Would recommend the Malt shovel if you are nearby but book before you go
1st visit to the Malth Shovel. Lovely pub, nice setting with good quality food, reasonably priced and excellent service. Will definitely come back again soon
beautiful meal as always. mouth watering ribs and then homemade pie full of meat. lovely pastry. atmosphere warm and welcoming. staff so friendly and efficient. we love coming here.
Absolutely brilliant. Friendly service, lovely environment & delicious food thoughtfully put together. An absolute gem that we are already planning on returning too the next time we are in North Yorkshire.
Excellent food and great service. Good variety from the seasonal and special menus as well as the normal menu. Great atmosphere , well looked after.
We had a lovely evening meal. The food was just perfect. Starters were the Harrogate blue cheese, ribs and king prawns good portion and all delicious. Mains were steak pie Moroccan lamb and the Cajun fish special, all very tasty the best lamb I've had in a long time. Service was great. We will definitely be back. Ribs
Fantastic as always. Love this place. Great food, great service and always leave with a plan to return as soon as we can. Thanks again!
As always a lovely evening spent at The Malt Shovel. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Menu choice was good. What we enjoy is that the food is served at a leisurely speed! Food is prepared as you order, so with care, and attention, if you are in a rush, not the place for you. We love it.
Had a wonderful evening! A friendly welcome, a roomy table and delicious food, all making a get together of family and friends truly memorable. Liked the ‘Coaching Inn’ building with the practical and unfussy interior, the books and the atmosphere. Delicious food, we were left in peace and had a really good time. Thank you very much, I will surely book again when an occasion arises.
We were, as always, made very welcome by Sylvia Good choice on menu and specials board. The food was excellent - well cooked and beautifully presented.
We had the soup and Cajun chicken sandwich lunch deal. Was lovely and really good value . The kids meals were great and staff lovely. Thanks for a great lunch.
Really enjoyed our delicious fish and chips in very relaxed atmosphere. We were made very welcome and well looked after. Would thoroughly recommend a visit.
No fine dining, the premises could do with a lick of paint, but it's all about the food. A good ,solidly cooked menu. My wife enjoyed the devilled kidneys, my prawns, crispy as promised. The steaks cooked correctly for a change. How many places can't manage a medium rare order?. The meat had plenty of flavour, helped by the garlic butter. Sticky toffee to round off and they managed to knock us up a couple of Irish coffees as well. Both satisfied and not a pea-shoot or decorated plate in sight. Does what it says on the tin, if its good basics you're after.
Great food, very welcoming staff and an excellent menu with varied dishes. Reasonable prices too - would certainly recommend a visit to this lovely pub 😀
Lovely place, very friendly and efficient service. Food was absolutely delicious, I ate every bit of my 3 courses. Well worth a detour to visit, would highly recommend it.
Lovely olde world type pub - nice atmosphere. Friendly service . Good pub food at reasonable prices. I had pate starter and calves liver main course - both were yummy. Husband had onion soup and steak and ale pie - again both were yummy. The steak and ale pie did look delicious with real chips and lots of veg. Will come again - and I will try the pie! As well as main menu there is also a blackboard with specials.
Very comfortable bar and restaurant area , good food and excellent service . This is now on our list of places to go in the Harrogate area.
Nice rustic surroundings, friendly staff service and good food. Excellent value for money on the voucher we bought. Good that drinks were included on the offer.
The food was excellent the waitress had excellent customer service skills also making the experience very good . Only negative was in the middle room it was a bit on the chilly side. I will definitely be back again hopefully the fires will be lit by then .
First visit to the Malt Shovel and it was really good.. Cosy atmosphere, pleasant staff and a nice menu - with not too much choice. I could, however, have chosen and enjoyed most thing on it!. Opted for the deep fried Brie followed by Calves liver in the end and they didn't disappoint. Took friends who were from out of town and they thoroughly enjoyed it too. Wiill definitely return.
Our first visit to the Malt Shovel will certainly not be our last . Friendly efficient staff made us feel very welcome. Our three course lunch was excellent.
Excellent meal and atmosphere. Good quality food as always expected of Malt Shovel, despite change of ownership. Well priced wine and a great place to go for Sunday lunch. Can not wait for next trip
great food - nice selection on the menu and specials, lovely staff - a really enjoyable evening - would not hesitate to recommend and look forward to returning
Friendly staff and good food. Good meeting place to catch up with friends and family as not rushed and able to sit outdoor for coffee
Amazing food, staff are always so welcoming. Lovely surroundings inside and out and in such a beautiful village. Be sure to try some of the famous dishes such as black pudding scotch egg. 100% worth a visit.
Went for lunch and thought the set menu offered a reasonable choice and was good value. The food was delicious and the service friendly. We would visit again.
We booked a table for four and we had a very enjoyable meal. There was a slight delay due to the fact that the chef was taken off to A&E in Harrogate. But this was explained to us and an apology was given. We would recommend this pub and we will be going again.
We were recommended to eat at The Malt Shovel which was good because from the outside it does not look very appealing - in bad need of a paint job - and I think that without the recommendation we would not have stopped. This would have been a mistake, however, as the food was very good indeed and the staff efficient and friendly. We would certainly eat there again if we were in the area.
I love The Malt Shovel. Really delicious food, great service and great atmosphere. The team can’t do enough to make sure you have a lovely time and we keep coming back and will continue to do so.
Food was fantastic staff were ok we were put in the far room next to a wall with no viewof the bar or staff even though the pub was empty so will not be rushing back
Enjoyed the food and service, and pleased to be back at the Malt Shovel after a few years - we felt it had declined since the Bliekers left, but it now seems to be on the up. The only downer was the volume and content of the family discussion from behind us - but that’s hardly the restaurant’s fault. I suppose they were enjoying themselves, but boy did I want to get up remonstrate with the daughter and son-in-law to be. Anyway, we will go back and are pleased that Marek and Sylwia are making it a success.
Simply a lovely environment to be in. The menue is varied and interesting. We have never been disappointed. Having visited now six times. Sunday lunch time this time, for our anniversary, meant we were fortified to move more furniture around at home, the wine selection is not bad either! Can't wait to return.
Lovely traditional pub set in a very pretty village. The staff were friendly and the food was great pub food. We especially recommend the starters of Brie and liver pate.
Great food, friendly service in a lovely country pub. All dishes were cooked to perfection and the small, varied limited menu provided plenty of choice
Situated in the charming village of Brearton. I chose from the specials board delicious goats cheese & beetroot salad followed by perfectly cooked hake. The Service was attentive and friendly.
Friendly service and my partner's meal of roast beef was greatly enjoyed. However the roast chicken, whilst moist and tender, had very little flavour and would have benefitted enormously by the addition of some seasoning or fresh herbs. Otherwise it would be a good idea to buy much better quality chicken.
Three out of four meals were good, fourth meal meat very tough poor quality however this meal was not charged for place lacked atmosphere and one waitress had very short attention span will not rush back.
Went to the Malt Shovel for lunch with friends. It was a lovely character place to eat. The staff were friendly and service excellent. The food we had was great and well cooked.
We had our Sunday lunch at the restaurant and it was brilliant just like our previous visits have been. The food is fresh and tasty and cooked just right. They have a varied selection of great beers and wines all served by their lovely staff. It is a brilliant place for a lovely meal.
Food excellent but very slow service. Staff seemed unconcerned we had waited 40 minutes for starter and a further 45 minutes for main course. Flippantly told it would be worth it when it arrived. We understand food is cooked to order but this seemed excessive. Shame as previous visit was very different.
Excellent food and service. Introduced American grandsons to Yorkshire puddings and deep fried Brie Good food range in all courses Value in 2 or 3 course option
Great pub in a good setting. Lovely country gastropub in a nice village with excellent tasty food and friendly service. Main courses might have arrived sooner.
The food was nice but the time between starters and mains was very slow and no explanation as to the wait. We would have stayed for desert but the thought of another wait deterred us.
Had a lovely meal. The scallops were delicious as was the plaice. My husband had the devilled kidneys and hake and was equally impressed. Not over priced for food or wine.atmosphere gooo.will definately return.
Good quality and very tasty food. Best steak we have ever had. Good portion size & very friendly staff. We would definitely go back again.
