lovely food in very nice surroundings. Cosy and comfortable, varied menu and very good staff. Glorious views too. Go to the H and F often as never disappoints
What a wonderfully friendly pub. Fantastic food and great ales. We’ve been here many times and intend to return many more times! Dog friendly too :)
Overall very good food and a nice atmosphere with an open fire. It was unfortunate for us that they sent out from the kitchen my chicken dish on mashed potato instead of risotto as described on the menu, so both dishes had to be returned for a few minutes whilst the meal was re-plated up. Spoilt the evening a little but the quality and presentation of the food was good.
Great atmosphere, great food and very friendly staff. There is a good choice on the menu and the portions are generous. A pub/ restaurant with a great deal of charm and character, very highly recommended.
Disappointed with quality of food. Two turkey dinners returned one virtually untouched and the other just picked at. Noone asked if everything ok whichit obviously wasn’t. We have eaten here a few times and foundit perfectly acceptable. We won’t be going again.
Wonderful food (loved the veg selection with the turkey), excellent value, splendid people, beautiful setting, great atmosphere, cosy log burner - What’s not to like?
Beautiful 17th C Inn, warm and friendly greeting from all the staff - Proprietor also on hand leading from the front. The food was very tasty and reasonably priced. Cannot fault the experience in any way. Will definitely return here next time I'm in the area.
Best pub restaurant in the Lake District. Great service and great food. All our meals were excellent and the staff were very friendly and helpful, brilliant evening, thank you.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit, friendly staff, nicely decorated, great food and worth every penny. Been back time and again for the lamb shoulder and it never disappoints. Will visit again next time we are in the Lakes
Lovely, welcoming, cosy pub with wonderful food perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon sitting by the log fire. Staff & service were excellent . Will definitely be paying another visit.
The food was lovely and the staff were very friendly. The only point I would like to make is I think there were fresh flowers (Lily’s) which my husband is allergic to and this had an affect on his breathing. This is just a thing you may need to know .
A nice place, reasonable service but fish chips, ordered by 3 members of our party wasn’t the best. The portion was huge but the batter was not cooked enough and was rather pale in colour. The chips were a bit on the soft side too.
Very good food, service & ambience. Would have liked a few more veg with meal identified on menu as including veg. Howeve all food was well cooked, presented well & good value. Would definately go sgain & recommend.
The pub is a Lovely place, very dog friendly, staff are brilliant, helpful and polite, serving really great food. We have already booked a revisit. 👍
Sunday evening is NOT the tone to visit this pub. Loads of items not available and food very poor. Not s good experience and one we shall not repeat. Sad as a few years back it was an top place to eat.
Quick dinner stop so only had mains but as always the food was quality. Could not sample the beers as I was driving but the selection is great
This used to be a great restaurant but now the food is awful, the service is awful and it was outrageously expensive for the rubbish that we were served. Of all the food we ordered, only the prawn cocktail was eaten. The mushroom stroganof was like slop and the unidentifiable orange stuff that was put onto the chocolate fudge cake rendered the cake inedible. I can only assume that someone else is running the place vs the last time we went, which was about 4 years ago.
What a great place the Horse and Farrier is! We went there because we are staying in Threlkeld but would definitely come from further out. Parking is easy, access is flat, which is important to me! The table are a mismatch of styles which really suits the place. The staff are friendly and helpful. The Sunday roasts are excellent, a Yorkshire served with every meat! There is also a diverse bar food menu. We will have to go back!
We thought the food was very good but we experienced very poor service. Despite being only half full, the service was incredibly slow and the dessert never arrived.
Excellent food and hospitality in pleasant surroundings. Menu choice is great and food plentiful. This is our second visit and we will be back again.
Service was friendly, food was very nice- everyone enjoyed their meals. Restaurant area was very pleasant and not too crowded. Overall fine and reasonable value.
Good service and value for money Staff were very helpful and went out of their way to assist 50 years since we went for our honeymoon a lot has changed since then
Lovely friendly staff but food we thought wasn’t anything special. We’ve eaten here before and it was lovely. Drove here for special occasion we were disappointed.
Excellent meal, though the food took a little while to arrive but the pub was busy. Good selection on the menu with specials on a separate sheet.
Our lunch was OK, thought the food was good, but there was musac in the background, and thought we had very little contact with the staff!
Spot on! Got there a bit earlier than booked and wasn't a problem. Delicious meal and now absolutely stuffed, staff are great! Keep hold of them !
Not usually given to posting reviews because pubs are usually much of a muchness, but this one is excellent. Both food and service were top class. Very happy to recommend!!
Excellent food and menu friendly staff in a lovely setting highly recommend. We had the lamb our friends had belly pork both tender and tasty with of accomplement of mash and vegetables cannot wait to visit again.
As always fantastic service and fantastic food great atmosphere love it here.
Lovely food (especially the sticky toffee pudding) if rather slow service at the table we were seated at, round a corner from the bar! This pub has a great menu and very good choice of ales.
Enjoyed lunch there today. I would say well above average pub grub .Have been to Horse and Farrier several times previously but I think today maintained our opinion that it is a good place to go to .
On holiday with the family and the food and service was top notch. Only gripe was it looked like a piece of lettuce my sister in law's prawn cocktail had had a bit of soil or dirt left on it. Felt it was good value for money. Would highy recommend.
Steak was gorgeous and lamb really tender and tasty. The steak and ale pie filling was delicious. Friendly, helpful staff and good service. Would visit again
WE took my mother for Sunday lunch and were very disappointed with the meal. There simply was not enough food and for £12 was very poor value for money. The food came served in soup plates with the food piled on top of each other. Also it would have been nice to have had the gravy served in a jug rather than on the plate. We let feeling very hungry.
you get great food and great service in lovely restaurant. outside the scenery is stunning. what's not to like . highly recommended. will definitely go back.
the food was excellent. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Overall we had a very enjoyable experience- I would highly recommend it and would go again
The Staff were all friendly, helpful and professional. The food was good. Fish n Chips excellent as was the Scampi and the Gammon. Two minor faults - The buffalo mozerella and vine tomatoes starters didnt appear to contain vine tomatoes The ‘artisan’ bread that should Have accompanied the prawn cocktails didn’t appear to be such. All in all an enjoyable experience.
Set in a beautiful location, with a lovely ambience whether dining indoors or out. Made even better by the wonderful staff and food. A must visit when in the lakes and looking for a relaxed enjoyable dining experience.
Excellent food, with wonderful friendly service from Kath. A truly impressive pub, which has benefitted from substantial investment. And the lunch menu is great value.
Good standard menu. Sunday roast very acceptable. Kath our waitress was amazing. 74 years old and not long back from Everest base camp! Talk to her if she serves you
Excellent food 3 meat Sunday dinner at 8pm. Had to wait a bit for dtinks and another item but no big deal. Def book as mostly laid out for food and very busy.
Lovely food, sourced locally where possible, good value for money, friendly and helpful staff . Atmosphere relaxed in a beautifully converted and updated old building.
The staff were obliging and helpful; the food was EXCELLENT as was the price!! A very successful meal enjoyed by myself, my wife and my mother.
It was lovely food served by really friendly attentive staff. The refurbishment looks great. Love the fact that there are still plenty of dog friendly tables.
I have been the Horse and Farrier before with family and wanted to take my partner for his birthday and they did not disappoint!! The food is stunning and the staff are lovely and cannot do enough for you. Now that my partner has been, he’s said we’re not coming back to the lakes and not going to the Horse and Farrier - it’s becoming a tradition!!
Fantastic and friendly service and the food was divine! We had a variety of meals off the menu including the scallops (yum!), the lasagne, soup and steak, which was beautifully cooked. Very reasonably priced too. 6*
Great location, very welcoming and friendly. Our first visit in this area so was very pleased to find such a good place to eat. Food and service was excellent.
A great country pub, brilliant food and very friendly staff. They couldn’t have been more accommodating of us, a table of 12, and we would definitely go back.
This is a great pub; we had a lovely warm welcome from the team and enjoyed delicious fish and chips for lunch. It was a lovely spot to spend a wet afternoon. Thank you.
For a good led establishment I had hoped for more. The menu was a tad boring. Nothing bad but certainly not great. Decor is lovely. Would U revisit ? Maybe but not in a hurry sadly. Service was adhoc and it was if we were an issue to their tasks in hand.
