It was very poor overall we would not go back again

The bruschetta was below par, the calimari was OK, but suspect it was out of a packet. The service was rushed and the waiter managed to knock over a pint of beer then knocked lemon slice onto my hubby’s trousers whilst trying to clean up . We were very disappointed after expecting much more. We also witnessed other diners being subject to very rushed service. Such a shame as it is a lovely pub. Won’t be back I am afraid.

Great food very accommodating although some drinks ordered and never got but it was very busy.

My wife’s curry was not properly cooked so had to be sent back and was redone. No adjustment offered on bill which was disappointing.

A meal at the Horse & Farrier is always the final treat of our annual holiday in the Lake District.

In general were satisfied with our experience but would mention presentation of food was overpowering inthat portions particularly Yorkshire pudding were somewhat for too much on the plate.

Booked table and although not ready at the time they worked hard to get us seated when very busy. Fantastic food. Huge portions. Staff friendly and service good. Very happy

The setting of this place is beautiful at the bottom of Blencathra. The staff are very friendly & helpful, as for the food it is always delicious. I have been here few times now & it never disappoints.

Excellent value and service on the edge of the lakes

Arrived early for our meal but staff were quite happy to accomodate us. Service was timely and very friendly. Lunch menu option was good and varied, served hot, in generous portions and tasty. Busy and popular eating place, I would recommend booking in advance. Overall a pleasant experience.

Have visited quite few times and food is always very good as is the service.

Lovely, homely pub, ideal for a filling meal. The atmosphere was relaxed, it was nice and warm and the food was well presented, tasty and plenty of it. Children’s menu was decent and the staff were very understanding when we had to rearrange our booking time. We will be paying a visit next time we’re in the area.

Really good food- we all had 3 courses :) I had the duck which was on special and it was delicious. Staff were very friendly and its a relaxed atmosphere.

The food and service were good but we we were near seated near a family with a couple of very noisy children which did spoil the overall experience.

Always exceptionally good for a visit with friends, whether in the evening or for lunch. Lucky to have this restaurant with easy walking distance.

I didn't like the main as it was kind of bland. I liked the starter and dessert though.

Cosy and comfy seating. The service was friendly and quick. One incorrect meal arrived but was very speedily replaced, with apologies, for the correct order which was delicious. I recommend the chocolate torte! Music was exactly the right volume according to my mum!

Arrived to be told no gas in kitchen so limited menu choices, only 2 choices available on children's menu. Just said as matter of fact, no attempt to offer any alternatives. Served starters after long wait, mid way through told electric had gone off in kitchen & may not be able to serve mains. Waited another 20 minutes before finding out mains would be served. When served, waitress spilt curry on table over my glasses case, came back with cleaner spray & left on table for me to sort at which point I indicated this was for her to sort out. Food average, bill quite high - 3 starters, 3 kids meals, 2 mains, 5 soft drinks - £95, no gesture to take anything off bill or acknowledgement of issues when I went to pay. Won't be rushing back.

When reserving we did ask for room where there were no dogs. By the time we left there were 3 dogs in the room where we were

Lovely ploughmans lunch on Good Friday. Pub was very busy, lots of people enjoying the nice weather outside too. Would recommend

Whilst the food we had was lovely. It was really disappointing that we were seated and drinks ordered prior to being told there was no gas and as such a limited menu. The Young Waiter was great but it seemed a shame it was all on him when we had already been greeted at the bar by other staff who really should have mentioned the reduced menu then. However food we got was still lovely.

Great food, just not enough parking facilities, but it is in a very small village, so to be expected really.

Such a lovely place! The service was outstanding on a busy day (Easter). The menu had a great variety in every course. The wine list is thorough. We had traditional Sunday roasts (two versions), and the side dishes with the proteins were absolutely wonderful. HUGE amounts of food at very reasonable prices. Plus, the atmosphere is beautiful. Just wish we'd had room for dessert. Thank you so much!

Outstanding food quality excellent staff friendly and helpful, a charming pub restaurant myriad of rooms/areas to accommodate eating /drinking, muddy walkers , pooches, families etc.. welcome will definitely return again 😊 as we always do exceptional produce
