Food was great. Decor and flooring was old and looking tired, could do with redecorating. Staff were great but the kitchen was also tired and dated

No heating, a steak was over cooked and, towards the end of the evening, staff smelled of smoke after a cigarette break outside. Shame, as the rest of the food was okay.

We enjoyed a delicious three-course lunch for £13:95 each. The service was both efficient and personable and nothing was too much. We have already booked to return, this time for dinner.

We didn't know it was there, a little hidden gem. Amazing food and an amazing welcome. Would recommend and will visit again. Lunchtime menu had fantastic choice and is superb value.

Brilliant, great atmosphere, the food was delicious and fresh also beautifully presented. The staff were attentive but not fussy or overbearing. Good value too. We will definitely return.

arrived for 3 course lunch, pleasant waitress, would have liked to see a drinks list with all the drinks available, not just wine list. good set course menu, we both enjoyed all courses good service, not too long to wait for courses which is a nice change these days. in summary pleasant little restaurant, clean, good service, nicely presented food which tasted very good, will eat here again.

Quiet place off the high street. Lovely ambience with excellent service. Food is superb. Would definitely recommend for a romantic date night or special occasion.

Went to The Grill 49 for our wedding anniversary and had a superb experience. Everything from the food to the service, to the atmosphere and the restaurant itself, was absolutely superb! Can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. The steaks are exceptional!

Excellent meal as always. Drinks are pricey though! Service good but a little too pushy for our liking. We'd asked for a gap post our starter and main meal yet were asked twice within a very short period whether we wanted dessert/coffee. Once these issues are addressed Grill 49 would be at the top of my "go to" venue in Cheltenham.

Almost a secret place, it is down in a basement. I feel I want to keep it all to myself. The place was busy but we felt cared for and looked after. The food for each course was delicious, well prepared, well presented, and wine was tasty. Manager Nicky; an excellent chap, as are his staff.

Absolutely exquisite food. But I'm not a fan a fan of paying £9 for a Vodka and Orange. Also the floor were my seat wasn't secure and I nearly fell of my chair.

The service and the staff were excellent, extremely polite and friendly and the food and drinks were served in good time and the standard and presentation of the food was first class 👍highly recommend.

This is our "go to" place for steak in Cheltenham which we can always rely on for their superb quality and friendly service. Well done!

Couldn't fault the food or the service - had a very enjoyable evening here last night. Waiters very attentive but not overbearing. No rush to get you through courses to get another sitting in. Food was excellent.

Had a fantastic evening staff always great very helpful . Crispy calamari for starters yum. I had a delicious sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce cooked to perfection. My husband had the chicken tagliatelle he said amazing so much chicken. He had chefs special blueberry cheesecake excellent. I had choc brownies the best. The wine list very good had a fabulous Australian Shiraz . A perfect evening.

Six of us went and all we can say is what fabulous food, staff courteous and helpful, atmosphere great. It was my husbands 50th we took a small cake they played happy birthday and gave him a free drink. Definitely will be going back again. Thank you for a great evening.

Really friendly greeting, lovely food and a really relaxed and nice atmosphere. Good value for money, lots of choice (although 3/4 had steak for a main course which was deemed the best they'd had for ages) and great service.

Only one waitress trying to deal with everyone which left us waiting for drinks & menus. Ordered the food, only 3 meals came out & we had to wait for the fourth one. We sent our meals back to the kitchen so they could all be served at the same time. One of the well done steaks was actually medium cooked so a little disappointed as I searched for a nice restaurant to go out to eat, deserts were lovely though:)

Our second visit and even better than the first!! The food was fantastic but the ambience with (for us) great mix of classic records in background and the attentive and jovial staff just made the evening so enjoyable.

kept waiting for ages starter of fried calamari could have been anything no taste whatsoever main course of burger looked very unappetising and tasted not at all home made overall very disappointing

Amazing restaurant, love the cosy atmosphere which is perfect for a date night. We will be returning. Definitely need to book as it is incredibly popular

King prawn skewers were amazing!! I also enjoyed the lamb steak too, good value for money whilst enjoying good food & drinks are also reasonably priced

Food and service good but waited far too long for our steaks.. 1hr 20... for steak and chips... Their focus is clearly on their take away service unfortunately. Very small restaurant with only 10-11 tables so you would think they could get that right. Needs a refresh as decor could be better.

Lovely restaurant with great staff and food. Menu was great. Simple but effective and the food was great as result. Finally felt I have been to a restaurant where I have not been put off by an overly fussy menu but have still been to a nice place.

Evening meal with friends. Food and service were great. There was plenty of choice on the menu, we decided on steak and sea bass which were all very nice. Cheesecake was fantastic. Will definitely visit again.

Lovely calm atmosphere, down to earth waitress and best of all delicious food. Ordered steaks - cooked as ordered, salmon with beautiful crispy skin and prawn tagliatelle -all dishes excellent.

Service was good. Wine, brilliant. Steak was lovely though a little dry on the outside (fillet, medium rare) . Calamari not so great. Chicken Liver pate, lovely also.

Incredible food. This is a wonderful restaurant where the advice is fantastic. The wine was also very good and nothing was to much trouble for the lady that served us. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Good simple food, at reasonable prices, and very attentive staff . I had prawn skewers to start, then sea bream, partner had pea and ham soup and steak, all good , didn't bother with dessert as we were full!

Very poor table offered right next to the small bar where all drinks are served from ( and the door to the restaurant) and right opposite the swing doors to the kitchen. We had booked in advance, wanting to try a different restaurant, and mentioned it was an anniversary meal for two. We asked for an alternative table but they said there was not one. Really disappointed. So lucky that, amazingly, one of our favourite restaurants, in the same street, had a table and we had an excellent meal there.

Superb meal and a great price . Great service with a smile . Without doubt one of the best in Cheltenham . Will be back soon .

The food was very good with adequate portions - and came out hot! Clearly just cooked. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Service a little slow but with four of us made the evening last.

Fantastic evening, menu had something for all tastes without being too big. All meals cooked & delivered just right, great flavours & steak cooked perfectly. Excellent table service by all the staff helped make the evening a great dining experience. Excellent value for money. All sux of us will be returning, this place may be a hidden gem.

Both main course were excellent, the Swordfish and the ribeye steak were cooked perfectly. Followed up by New York cheesecake and the raspberry cheesecake. A good selection of craft beers as well

We have been coming here ever since it opened. They consistently succeed in serving up the best quality steaks in Cheltenham! We shall definitely return.

Great food, service and ambiance. Food is of a very good quality. I had the 10 oz ribeye steak which was cooked perfectly and seasoned just right.

So much right and so much a little...odd! We were met not with a warm welcome but with somebody checking the clock to see if we were on time (we were). On finding I could only have a sweeter rose wine by the glass, I was told it was no problem for a bottle of dry Rose to be opened, even though only offered by the bottle, which was lovely hospitality and the wine was delicious. The food was...interesting. Starters were nice although I'm not sure a cheese tuille goes particularly with prawns. But the main issue was that EVERYTHING comes with roasted Mediterranean vegetable. Everything. My starter of prawns came with them. My friend calamari had a little garnish of them. My fillet steak (beautifully cooked and very tasty) came with mountains of them. My friend had the steak and blue cheese hot salad and that came with them. The only difference between the steak dish and the hot salad being that the steak was served ON TOP of the Mediterranean Vegetables in the salad... What made it a "salad" we still have no idea. I was honestly expecting the coffee at the end to come served with a slice of courgette instead of a petit four. It didn't... We won't be returning but I would note that the staff were very clearly desperate to make a good impression and to please their guests.

The restaurant was fully booked on the evening we went, so we had quite a wait for our meal, but the service we received was excellent and the food was well worth waiting for. The grilled prawns were delicious and beautifully presented, followed by the sirloin steak cooked to perfection. Our friend had the snapper which again was perfection on a plate. Excellent value for money and will definitely be dining here again.

Good was excellent and staff helpful but the restaurant was fairly quiet on our arrival at 8.30pm on a Wed evening and we found ourselves the ones there quite shortly afterwards whilst we would have preferred some atmosphere.

We had great time and the food was amazing as my 2 guests have confirmed to me.The staff were very friendly and i have now booked again this time instead of 4 persons now 17 wow.
