Overall ok steak was rare but requested medium rare and only warm. Restaurant was very cold and no heating on at all. Quite disappointed as usually a good restaurant.

I was delighted with the meal last Saturday. Everything about the evening worked perfectly. We had a wonderful cosy table, and no loud music. The service was friendly and the food was exceptional. A great place to meet with friends.

Huge potions - too big really. Food over salted but well prepared and cooked. Innovative menu. Lousy waitress with dreadful attitude. Detracted from good evening.

Always delicious food! Sunday lunch great value for the quality, service a little slow when it's busy but lovely setting so you dont mind too much.

Great food. Very helpful staff. Lovely experience. The car park is very small & tight so be prepared to pay and display on the road outside.

The conservatory was not being used but this meant that our table in the main part of the pub was a bit cramped. The staff did have a very good grasp of the wine list and forgot to add the wine to the bill until we pointed out the omission. The food was excellent and the service was good.

We were greeted and staff were friendly and helpful. We were served quickly and we only tried the lunch menu but the food was very nice. It didn't seem quite as cosy as last time we were there a few years back now but it was adequate and I would go again and give good feedback to others.

Food was excellent as ever. However, service was a little slow and inattentive. We were there late on and we were the only customers in the place. Yet on two occasions I had to head to the bar area to get some service, as none of the staff seemed interested in coming into the restaurant for table service!

A mid week meal with a friend and we were seated in a cosy little corner . The food was delicious and definitely somewhere I would come back to.

Beatiful Sunday Lunch with heaps of vegetables,delicious meat and gravy.Only complaint would be that service was a bit slow, but we weren't in a hurry.

very nice food, reasonably varied menu. My husband had pork to start with , then fish and chips. I had lamb, all good wine was good too.

Excellent food 2 x Sunday lunch. The feather blade beef was melt in the mouth, and this dish alone is worthy of another visit. Although it could be served at a higher temperature. especially the side dishes of vegetables.

Well cooked food and good selection of beers and wines. The Pinot Noir from Roumania hit the spot with the chicken pasty. Service was friendly and efficient.

Service excellent and good feeling. .. will go back for evening menu as lunchtime limited although nothing at all wetting with what we had. Timothy Taylor Landlord makes everything alright!

Place was lovely, although waited a long time to be seated. Good menu, but the food took an absolute age to come. Very tasty and enjoyable. Beware of the parking... on a weekend you struggle to find a space in the car park or in the surrounding streets. I think the service could be better but couldn't knock the food once it arrived.

Excellent food and atmosphere. Service is good when it arrives but there are fairly long waits to place orders and for food. It took 45 minutes for the starters to arrive but they were excellent when they came. Service is slow but food is worth the wait - don't go if in a hurry!

Bit disappointing - the interior and experience doesn't really match the exterior. Met with a smell of toilets as we walked through the front door, very dingy inside, had to find someone to show us to our table. Floor was sticky and bots of food from previous diners. Our server was lovely and friendly, but we did wait over an hour from arrival to getting our main course, with only drinks and some bread and butter between (no starters) and we had to ask where our food was. No vanilla ice cream for dessert /accompaniment (but not explained when menus were asked for) meant we all had to choose something else or go without. Nice staff, food was OK and reasonable price but the other things really let it down. Probably wouldn't visit again unfortunately, as its very local to us.

Outstanding Sunday lunch could not fault it, top notch service in a wonderful environment. What's not to like this place is the real deal looking forward to staying over or maybe a n evening meal here

Dreadful ! Place felt dirty and unwelcoming ! Cold on a wet day with no atmosphere and disinterested staff! Very expensive for mediocre food! Will not go back as place looks and is very run down...

Great food at great value for often overpriced Durham. Portion sizes are a bit big but still v tasty. Read the Secret Diner. He does it better.

Wonderful food and a really beautiful pub with some great atmosphere. Only thing that was slightly disappointing were the staff who appeared to lack interest, however we still had a lovely meal.

Food was excellent but service was slow and lacked attention. Several tables were waiting to order drinks for a good while and nobody was checking around the room to see if anyone required further drinks etc.

Limited lunchtime menu but specials board offered additional options. Good very good. Service a little slow but not enough to be really a problem. Would certainly visit again.

Food wasn't quite up to the usual high standard. Had to wait over an hour between finishing the starter snd the main course arriving. Hope it was just a bad night.

Amazing food shared with the family for a birthday occasion. Great value and superb standard of food. Will certainly be visiting again. Also appreciated the selection of real ales and relaxed atmosphere in the bar area.

Good service, good ambience and excellent freshly cooked food. The lobster sandwich is an absolute favourite but choose it as a main course rather than a starter, with a side order of skinny fries to share! Delicious!

Enjoyable! We felt comfortable and well treated. They were acomodaring with the flowers I asked them to put on the table. The food was delicious; we will definitely go back!

The food is always excellent. The service was also very good indeed. The restaurant was very busy, but there were enough staff there to ensure everything was dealt with promptly. The only slight criticism we would have was that some of the food was just slightly a lower temperature than you'd expect, but certainly not enough to send it back for re-heating.

Really nice atmosphere and the food was lovely. Would recommend the cheese croquettes and the garden house burger, and the cherry chocolate tart was very nice! Very friendly and helpful staff too.

Really nice food and friendly service. Quantities were a good size and reasonably priced for Sunday lunch. Took a little time for us to pay but when that's the only negative, it's pretty good!

Best sunday lunch I've had in many a year. Cosy pub atmosphere with restaurant quality food. My wife and I both give it 10/10 will return soon to try the weekday menu.

Fantastic food and great service, only downside is the tables are a little tight in the conservatory where we were sat so it can be quite a squeeze to get in and out.

Lovely Sunday lunch. Good choice of vegetables. Very well cooked. It was a nice change to have the lobster sandwich as a starter on the Sunday lunch menu.

Very busy for Valentines Day but they were happy to serve the main a la carte not just the Valentine special menu. The service was very good despite being busy and the venison was excellent

Service was good and the roaring log fire was very welcome on such a chilly evening! The salmon comes with giant couscous which it doesn't say on the menu, so don't order it if you are expecting normal couscous as you will be disappointed.

The Garden House was the perfect place for our meeting today. The staff were extremely friendly and the food was exceptional - and very reasonably priced. It was all you might expect from an inn which understands and values what its customers expect. All in all, couldn't have been better.

Excellent Sunday lunch. The beef featherblade was beautifully succulent and just fell apart. The range and amount of vegetables was very good and the sticky toffee pudding was delicious!

Excellent food, especially the spicy duck with stir-fry and the chocolate brownie with ice-cream. Friendly service and a lovely, welcoming place - definitely the tastiest pub food in Durham.

Our first time at The Garden House and it won't be the last. The food and the atmosphere were both superb (we were early evening, before it got too busy) and the portion sizes immense - so big we had no room for dessert. The quality of the food was outstanding, proper restaurant/gastro-pub quality. Good range of wines & beers too.
