Great atmosphere, interesting and delicious food near the centre of Durham. The smoked pork fillet was especially good with whipped potato mash and a pulled ham and leek "pie" on the side. Generous portions and reasonable prices.
Great fresh food, cooked well, good beer, and good service will definitely go back some time soon. Nice little beer garden out the back too.
Fabulous meal. Can’t wait to return. Everything was absolutely perfect from starter to desert. Would certainly recommend Sunday dinner at The Garden House in Durham.
Food was fine but thought the wine was a little over priced. Limited choice on the menu but the atmosphere was pleasant. Staff were attentive.
Very good quality food. Menu choice was excellent and service was excellent
This is a fantastic little place, great ambience and the food is amazing! Service today was a little slow however. It was packed though and I didn’t hear Any complaints !!
. . . . . . . . . . . Very good food, great portion size and good value. Will definitely go again .
Very busy cosy local pub serving amazing food and a couple of decent ales. Had a fantastic dinner with my wife, the service was outstanding
Helpful staff very relaxing atmosphere and an esoteric menu. Always difficult choices..but time to have a beer while thinking about it. Many beers to choose from too
Gorgeous pub, perfect on a wintry day. Food excellent, prices reasonable, service great - what more could you want! Would definitely recommend the Garden House.
Very polite service Starter arrived very quickly but main course took quite some time - it was busy so guess that’s why and food was definitely worth waiting for, Great food - best Sunday Lunch I’ve had for a while Bit noisy where we were sitting as two large groups in- often feel it would be better to put large groups in the conservatory.
On a cold night it was probably not good to be in the garden room ! A bit chilly and a very noisy 21st birthday party didn't add to the ambience. Service ok, food ok.
Amazing food, very good service and lovely surroundings. Would highly recommend, especially the Sunday lunches. We've already booked to go back in two weeks time.
Service was excellent and food choice brilliant. Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner, so much do we booked for lunch the next day and also for Graduation in June. Thank you
A varied menu with plenty to choose from light bites to hearty mains. Pleasant service. Lovely light and sunny conservatory to eat in. Very good value.
Service was poor and slow, food fine when it eventually came and always check the bill the last twice we have been here drinks added to wrong bill. I understand these things happen just be careful.
Great food and great service! We had an excellent meal. It was a set menu on a Sunday. Good veggie options and lush desserts! Would recommend.
Good food, friendly staff, service a bit slow, very noisy in the conservatory when a group of students arrived.
We have eaten here several times for lunches and dinners and love the atmosphere, friendly staff and amazing food. We will definitely be going again.
I ordered the monkfish cheeks to start, what I got was posh scampi, it just wasn't what I had in mind, even if it was monkfish, you couldn't taste it for the deep fried breadcrumbs!! Not great, but the main more than made up for it!! I ordered the 12 hour feather blade beef, which was fantastic and my wife had the rare rump of beef which was well worth the extra £2 supplement!! The starter was quickly forgotten about!!!!
Nice food in a lovely pub few details like paper menus and no decent vegetarian options lets it down. Best for meat eaters but one of the best places Durham has to offer.
midweek evening meal. adult meals were good but childrens meals were very average. sunday lunch meals have always been a lot better than this. The beers are good.
Delicious food, perfectly cooked. Friendly and helpful staff, who were helpful and pleasant. We really enjoyed our evening and recommend The Garden House to our friends
Very nice atmosphere, service was impeccable; just very attentive and caring. Food was delicious, huge portions and great value for money. Will definitely be back.
The food was excellent, and the service was very good considering it was a Saturday night and really busy. Will definitely be back at some point in the future.
The service was slow and my meal had to be returned as it was cold. Wasn’t happy that there was no reduction on the bill but it was swiftly rectified
Excellent food and service, music was a bit loud and lighting could have been a bit brighter. Fantastic chips (crisp and crunchy) and haggis scotch egg
Fantastic restaurant. The food is always absolutely delicious! Really good value for money as well. Three courses for only £18.95. Lovely place and lovely staff.
Great, friendly staff, nice atmosphere, good service and good food. What more can you want from a restaurant? Have been a few times before and will be back again.
The food was pretty good. Service was awful. They ignored us all the time and forgot to bring us our drinks and food constantly. When they brought the bill, we noticed that there was a mistake and they didn't charge us three main dishes. We said that there must be a mistake, because we ordered more and they didn't even say thank you. In fact the staff did not talk at all, which made us feel not welcome.
The food was quite good, the gravy was rather too strongly flavoured. The waitress didn't know what beers were on, or what ice creams were on. It was much more expensive than the prices quoted for Sunday lunch on the inn's website.
I had the chicken pasty and it was scrumptious. My fellow diners had rib eye steaks and confirmed they were delicious. We have eaten here before and will certainly do so again.
Food in this bar is always perfect First time we have had issues. Will not put us off. We will be back I recommend this inn
A real fire on a winters day set the scene for great food in a welcoming environment. Try the fish fillet sandwich and triple cooked chips. Just lovely.
A lovey Sunday lunch as always! Beautiful 12 hour slow roast beef with wonderful yorkshire as well as sampling some of the local gin. Couldn't manage dessert but the other two people's looked lovely.
As always at the garden house inn, the food was excellent, as was the atmosphere, with the fire, and the staff were kind and helpful
We could not recommend the Garden House Inn more. The food was exceptional. The staff was friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting. It may be the best place to eat in Durham!
The meal was lovely, nice to see some different choices on the menu. Staff were very helpful but relaxed so the atmosphere was good. Would certainly return in the near future
Staff were lovely and the pub is cosy. The food itself is fantastic (and you get lots of it) the Korean Fried Pork was particularly good, would defiantly go again.
Food was excellent but the service was shambolic. We waited 1.5hrs between starter & mains due to a glitch in their IT system. Staff seemed incapable of thinking for themselves.
Service was attentive, friendly and timely. The food was tasty, good portion size. The decor was a bit basic as was the table setting, cutlery etc. Reasonable value for money but not the special evening out we thought it might be having read the review in The Week magazine. We will try other okaces out before returning probably.
Service was slow. The food came out very slowly and some meals were finished before the sides of chips arrived(we couldnt wait any longer the meals were getting cold. The chips were dry and the bun from the burger felt stale. The festive baguette came on a wooden board, this wasn't practical as it is served with a jug of gravy that couldn't be poured onto the baguette in case it ran off the sides- we ended up using it on the dry chips. We visited because the restaurant was highly recommend but wouldn't visit again.
Sunday lunch is a treat, If you dont go you will never know what you are missing. Give the feather blade of beef a try phew!
Delicious food, friendly, attentive service and a roaring fire to warm us on a freezing cold day. What more could we want for Sunday lunch?
Not the same standard as it was a few years ago. Booking online was difficult and the food was normal pub grub and took a long time.
First class food, good atmosphere. Two log fires burning creating a warm and friendly environment, Very friendly staff. Really enjoyed our food and drinks and can't wait to go again
Amazing Lobster for Sunday lunch. Perfectly cooked with fabulous chips and a very fresh salad. Friendly staff. Will definitely be going back there again soon!
I went for an anniversary dinner with my boyfriend and was not dissapointed.Very enjoyable food, atmosphere and very friendly service. Would highly recommend to anyone
Lovely Sunday lunch. Large portions and well cooked. Great value if having more than on3 course. We would love to come again, hopefully quite soon.
Very slow service, starter took an hour to arrive and 2 hours for mains. None of the ordered side dishes ever came. One fish dish cold. Reason given for poor service was a large party elsewhere. We had booked for a Family Christmas meal but will now be cancelling
