My family and I had an excellent meal at a reasonable price. I have already recommended The Finch's Arms to friends. It's a "must do" if you are visiting Oakham / Rutland.
The food was well presented and beautifully cooked. The atmosphere was great ant the service was top class, we will certainly recommend the Finch's Arms to others.
Excellent service, the food is exceptional and good value for money. The setting is beautiful especially on a lovely summer day when you can sit outside. I have been to this restaurant on numerous occasions and can honestly say I have never been disappointed.
A good place to stay. Great location for the bird fair. Efficient staff and service. Sensible prices. Good food and pleasant outdoor space especially in summer.
An attractive pub/restaurant in delightful surroundings with a relaxed atmosphere. A good choice of food which was well presented and very tasty! I'd definitely go back to the Finch's Arms👌
We had an enjoyable evening, sitting by the windows overlooking the courtyard. Food was tasty and hot, with a choice of set courses or a la carte
Starter of Smoked Salmon and main of roast beef was tasty. However service let the lunch down. After 15 mins from when the main course was finished our plates are still on the table and we had to grab the attention of a waitress to place our dessert order.... and still the plates didn't get cleared. Then it was another 10 mins before desserts turned up, just two sorbets which had started to melt with watery slush in the bottom of the bowls. There was a very large party of guests, 20+, but should ensure enough staff are on hand accordingly. Pity.
Food was excellent and location is lovely, but unfortunately the service was quite poor. We had to wait a long time for our order to be taken and almost gave up on having dessert! Staff were pleasant but seemed unorganised and when we went to the bar to pay ( didn't want to have to wait any more for bill to be brought to table) the drinks had been missed off the bill and it seemed to take several minutes to sort it out! Pity, because food was good.
Overall food was good, two lovely fish dishes but potato side order was clearly reheated and we'd almost finished main course by time replacement arrived. Service patchy with 4 different faces attending to us. Nice location and ambiance. Would go again and recommend.
Service food and atmosphere superb. Car parking impossible on a Sunday Lunch time and i had to park on double yellow lines outside but i have a Blue Badge. No Disabled car park at the inn itself as i could see.
Very friendly staff and a table with view to the water and beyond. Good food but service a little slow today and staff not quite ready for service at 12.00.
We loved our recent visits to The Finches for lunch, it has to be our new favourite place to eat.... the food is excellent and the staff very friendly and efficient.
Service could have been better seem to wait a long time for the meal to arrive, time scale seem to be set as if we had ordered starters.
Parking poor. Greeting on arrival non existent. Despite reservation had to find our own way to table and then waited for significant time to order drinks and food.
Telephoned restaurant to explain we were stuck in traffic, guy on the phone said it was no problem and would change us from 2pm to 2.30pm. When we arrived we were informed that the chef had stopped cooking and we could only order ciabattas etc!
We were very happy with our visit to the Finchs Arms. We were greeted on entry to the bar area and quickly seated by a lovely efficient lady. Our menus arrived promptly and we didn't have to wait long for our food which was delicious. We had no complaints and would definitely return. Staff brilliant.
Food was good with a good choice. Lovely pub in a beautiful setting.Service a bit slow and the bill was incorrect and we had to get it changed.
We had an absolutely delicious lunch in a beautiful setting, with really good service. Amazing value for money! Ww will be back soon. Thank you.
This was the most recent of many trips to Finches and once again most enjoyable. We were a table of four having lunch ( started at 1:00pm and eventually left 6:00pm ) three of us choose the alacart menu and one the set menu of the day , nobody was disappointed , we all had a super meal from starters through mains to pudding and of course good selections of beers and wines. The staff are terrific and friendly with nothing too much trouble. Oh almost forgot the setting, terrific overlooking Rutland Water and set in a beautiful stone village. Yes the Finches has everything you could possibly want. We will most certainly be back and soon.
Lovely old Inn , full of atmosphere , nice staff with good food. Well worth a visit. The village and surrounding area / countryside very pretty .
Great ambiance and food. Waiters were young and inexperienced and tended to lean across people when delivering the food but otherwise an excellent experience. Will definitely use again.
Wonderful Food , Lamb was fantastic the startes and desert lovely good value , staff helpful , spot on and a big thank you :)
A sunny early lunch at the Finch's Arms was an enjoyable way to complete a morning of successful shoe shopping in Oakham - success being rated as only having to sit in the car for 20 minutes! We sat in the garden with beautiful views over the countryside and had a bitter shandy and a Warner Edwards gin and tonic whilst ordering lunch. We decided on the very good value fixed price menu (£13.50 for two courses and £16.50 for three). The soup of the day was roasted tomatoe with crusty bread and my wife chose the goats cheese salad - both were excellent. My main course of poacher cheese and red onion tart was substantial and very tasty and my wife was very enthusiastic about her grilled sea bream with samphire and a broccoli side dish. A large glass of prosecco and an interesting Pinot Gris in the rose list by the glass were both ideal. Two coffees and the bill came to less than £60 which was rounded up to £70 because of the very attentive service by all staff. Thoroughly recommended when visiting Rutland Water or Oakham. Booking is recommended as the restaurant was full.
Excellent place to stay with great views over the lake, very friendly staff and good food and beer. Would definitely recommend and stay there again.
The room was clean and comfortable, sadly, the Wi-fi didn't work, nor did the TV in the room In the restaurant, the food was lovely, the service was ok.
Lovely view of Rutland Water. Very good food and wines. A very relaxed feeling for lunch. I took a client who had just celebrated her 90th birthday and she loved it.
Set Menu very reasonably priced. Good food and drinks. Lovely setting and views, the view of Rutland Water restricted by the hedges of properties nearby.
Excellent set menu at a good price. The chicken dish was cooked to perfection. Two of us had Sea Bream with Pea Risotto which was quite stunning. Puds were great, a wobbly panna cotta and home made cookies with ice cream. Even the stilton cheese was excellent. Great service, very good value, good cooking, a stunning setting & 3 very impressed diners. Its on our default restaurant list.
Food was very nice , service was very slow , sparkling water bottle was put on the table and we were left to open the bottle ourselves , not good service .will go again but think they should speed up waiting time .
Very good food in attractive restaurant. Service failed at the end but apologies made and bill adjusted so no real complaints . Probably would return.
I have mixed feelings about our visit to the Finches Arms for a birthday lunch. The quality of the set menu was very good as was the food that we ordered. However, the quality of the service was poor. The courses for the four people did not arrive at the same time so food was getting cold as we waited for all the courses to arrive. I had to ask for the bill several times and when I consulted the man in charge twenty minutes after asking it still had not been prepared. The quality of the waiters and bar staff is poor and lacking in attention to basic detail. This is great shame as the overall experience was poor even though the quality of the food was very high and of good value, and enjoyed by all four members of my party. Unfortunately, the good experience of having very well prepared and presented food was was marred by the very very poor quality of service by the waiting and bar staff in particular.
Good food, sadly very slow service, popular venue but not at the potential busiest time so yet again a bit disappointed... Very local to us but maybe a victim of its own success
The hotel was in a delightful situation. The staff were helpful and pleasant. The room was clean and good value. There were a couple of areas that were not so good: we returned from dinner to find that our bathroom was infested with midges; the service at dinner was good but exceedingly slow... so slow in fact that we gave up waiting and cancelled our coffee at the end of the meal. Overall the hotel was good and we wouldn't rule out staying there again.
We had lunch on the terrace and I have to say it was one of the most enjoyable lunches I have had in some time. The food was excellent and very good value
What a lovely place The Finches Arms is. My son and I enjoyed the 2course 'Special' meal deal. There was a good choice. It was nicely presented and piping hot. Would highly recommend.
Great atmosphere, service and food. We have visited loads of times sometimes just for a drink after a long walk around Rutland water. Always an enjoyable experience.
A very pleasant evening - the food (from the set menu) was good and good value. We will definitely be returning at some point in the near future.
Very poor service. Was told to queue at the bar to be seated and the queue was out the door. Just one young man serving so took over half an hour before we could attempt to be seated. Manager just apologised stating that she had worked a 17 hour shift yesterday!!! Others that arrived after us were seated before us because it appeared they knew a member of staff?! Have been before and was impressed by the food but unlikely to ever go back. We left without eating :(
Upon arrival, warm greeting was somewhat missing. Only to be expected I guess when you employ students at weekends. Menu was limited with regard choice. We were given menus and then allocated a specific time by which our order would be taken, very strange? Spent an enjoyable 3 hrs sitting outside at a table that was requested but not reserved. Went to pay the bill and were told the staff had lost our bill. Clearly moving tables created mass confusion. Nice setting though and would return.
We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. The service, the setting and the food were all excellent . The Yorkshire puddings were the largest I have ever seen.
Great food, slow service (but it was very busy), they forgot the coffee and we decided to call it a day. Would visit again, hopefully when they are less busy.
Warm and welcoming. A great setting and lovely venue. Food was really tasty and a walk around the peninsula to work off the calories! Well worth a visit
It was our first visit to The Finch's Arms but we enjoyed it and would return if in the area again. Our evening meals were very good and it sounded as if most of the other diners near us were regular, repeat customers, which is always a good sign. We also stayed one night b&b and enjoyed a good quality full English breakfast. The service was good although they did seem rather understaffed, so credit to those who were on duty. Overall it was an enjoyable visit and we enjoyed our meals.
Buatiful summers day setting and excellent food. Service a little bit hit and miss, but in general an excellent summer dining experience. Is in danger of becoming too large, seeming to be built on more and more on every visit.
Poor service. Not enough staff on duty on a really busy Saturday. Took ages to get served. Manageress was lacking customer service skills. Won't rush back.
Excellent meal, very busy but all food was deliciously prepared. Created a very good impression on our guests from Germany. I would heartily recommend this venue. Thank you.
Francesco was a wonderful waiter and the food and wine and setting were glorious! We'll definitely be back again and again. The veranda was gorgeous as well!
The food, service and decor was delightful and we will definitely return for dinner. It was quiet when we attended during the week which meant that we and the other customers in the resturant were rattling get around. Those in the bar were on an ideal location for when it is less busy.
Great food, good service. The starter was not what was expected as there were only 3 battered prawns, not much but you do pay extra. That being said the food was high quality and the staff were very pleasant and helpful.
The dIning room was very pleasant and there was a lovely terrace too, although it was not quite warm enough to sit outside. The staff were friendly and efficient. There was a good choice on the menu and the food was delicious. Probably more suitable for an occasional meal rather than the sort of place you would pop in every day.
