The staff were excellent ,friendly, courteous, and attentive, the surroundings and view couldn’t be faulted , food was cooked faultlessly, but portions were barely adequate, and not quite value for money ! however will probably visit again for a2nd impression would have thought that chicken breast ,with grilled tomatoes ,should have been served with some kind of potato , it was not !
Although overall the meal was excellent, we were made to wait for ever to order then we had to wait for a sweet order, then I had to go to the bar where the manager quite clearly didn't give a monkey's to ask for coffee, There wasn't a lot of choice on the menu either. When you spend £250 on a meal for four you do expect a little bit better service
Six of us ate, we all very happy with our food. my tempura prawns were perfectly cooked and the rump of lamb for main was very tender. Wine choice very good and reasonable priced!
Always a good experience. A very busy time for the staff but they respond well with smiles and good humour. Food good . The fires were very welcome.
Great character pub. Dog friendly bar. Very helpful and polite staff, lovely roaring fire and good ambience. We will be returning soon. Very muddy carpark though
great food, lovely atmosphere. Suggestion for improvement - ask your guests if the would like a drink. had to catch waiter eye and was quite a task to do so! missed our coffee at end as order was never takena nd we gave up
Beautiful restaurant, wonderful food, generous portions. Great service, all in all a brilliant meal. We both had steaks, mine was fillet and my husband’s was a sirloin, both were perfectly cooked.
The Finchs is a lovely special place with a great ambience and great food. It's a wonderful local to relax into the weekend. It's discerning but not pretentious
Excellent food, swift and courteous service. Only downside was the noise from a party of 6 near us, who were enjoying themselves rather too well. We realise that this wasn't the fault of the Finch's.
Lovely food in a great setting, the service abit slow but all servers very pleasant.Parking difficult, best to park on road.I would recommend this eatery for a leisurely meal.
We felt that the restaurant staff could have been more friendlier and cheerful. The person who greeted us and took us to our table did not smile once and looked fed up. Had to to ask for tartare sauce and vinegar for our cod and chips. No sugar on table for coffee. Food was very tasty and well presented which made up for the somewhat perfunctory attitude of some of the staff. Felt the ambience was less warm and welcoming when compared to our last visit 18 months ago.
Unfortunately our experience was ruined by a large and understandably noisy group of Birthday revellers. We were trying to catch up with friends but couldn't hear ourselves think let alone talk across the table. It would have been courteous of The Finch's to advise that this party were celebrating that night, we may have cancelled on that occasion but would definitely book for another date - not something we'll be doing in a hurry now.
Superb food, beautiful venue and great staff. The menu choices are very varied so most people can find a few choices that they like. A really great lunch in a great setting.
Went over and above to accommodate my vegan diet for all three courses, wonderful atmosphere and beautiful location. The food was absolutely amazing, me and my partner had a wonderful anniversary.
Sunday lunch very tasty , well cooked and good portion size . Had run out of chocolate brownie pudding which my 3 year old was a little disappointed about , good service , lovely setting .
A return visit. Good service and excellent food - the steak was very tender and the chocolate brownie was the best I've ever had! Highly recommended
Had a lovely lunch, staff were attentive, all three dishes good, fish cooked well thankfully not overdone. A very warm day, room could have done with a few fans. People were using there menus to fan themselves with.
Food delicious. Staff helpful and attentive. Weather was lovely enough to eat in the garden. Shame the hedge is so high it spoils the lovely view of Rutland Water, which is one reason we went.
Have been twice lately, one of our favourite pubs/restaurants. The first time we were only charged for 1 lunch as we had only had 2 starters, unexpected and a very nice gesture. Thankyou, Mark. The second time last week , for lunch, it was busy , and I felt the waiters etc were a bit rushed, understandable, so no time for a bit of banter, humour, etc, which always helps, makes you want to return. Otherwise, food is dependable and atmosphere, particularly in the older part, is lovely.
Excellent food and beautiful location. Good value lunch at £14.75 for 2 courses and perfectly cooked. Was busy when we went on Saturday lunchtime and looked like they were preparing for a wedding later on in the day, there was a bit of a delay in the drinks arriving but the waiter apologised. No delay in food though, so all good. Will be back!
It was our first visit here and we weren't disappointed. Food and surroundings were gorgeous. Lovely team of staff too. Good value for money. Can't wait for our next visit.
Excellent food and service as always! Love this place! The staff coped under difficult circumstances as it was extremely hot! They were very accommodating to all out requests.
Great lunch today and pretty good value . The beef medallions with Chorizo were exceptional. No paper towels in the gents but problem sorted promptly. Would love to visit again
Simple menu but very good quality of food with excellent service in a vibrant restaurant. Great chicken and bacon salad and salmon risotto with a lovely creme caramel.
The meal was great. It always grates a little with me when what I consider to be vegetables that should be part of a meal are offered at extra cost. Otherwise things were excellent.
Really loved our visit, the staff were fantastic and very attentive. Luckily the weather was kind to us and we were able to enjoy our dinner outside with a beautiful view or Rutland water
Had a really nice evening here, staff were good, food was excellent, good choice of wines, and the whole experience was pretty good. Will definitely return!
Lovely helpful staff and gorgeous food . Will definitely go back . Made us feel very welcome including our two dogs . An all round happy experience .
Food was excellent as usual but they were clearly understaffed as we had to wait 15 mins to get served with a drink upon arrival and had to prompt the waiter to take our food order after a further 30mins. The bar man was multi tasking as barman, waiter and hotel reception checking in hotel guests while the bar was busy.
Very good food, and good value for money. It took little time for our order to be taken, but after that the 2 courses we had were very promptly delivered.
Good quality food, imaginative menu with original presentation. Service was a bit slow, probably due to the fact that the weather was good and possibly an unexpected high level of customers.
Excellent summer lunch. Nice table overlooking the garden from the private restaurant. Chef right back on form from last time we visited 2 or 3 years ago. Beef medallions with feta cheese and chorizo- top meal!
Great food for Sunday lunch. Lots of choice, and our party of 7 were very pleased. Staff could have been more attentive as service was slower than expected.
The Finches deserves more than my score of 4..... if only it could get its service up to steam. This is my 3rd visit here... we come up to visit one of our sons..... the food is fantastic but the service is SO slow and requests get forgotten.... this has been the same on all 3 of our visits.... the staff are friendly and it is a fabulous location......but it should be better.
A simple but tastefully decorated room with tables well spaced. The food was delicious and well presented. Fine dining as they say on TV, but not skimpy portions. A short but sufficient wine list, reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and helpful, no pressure to get us to move on. We had an excellent, relaxing experience after what had been a terrible journey thanks to motorway roadworks and near tropical rainstorms! Highly recommended.
Unfortunately our experience of The Finch's was way beyond what we had experienced before. Previously we could not fault the service or the food but unfortunately this time the service was shocking, having to wait 10/15 mins for our plates to be removed once we had finished our main course. The Risotto was undercooked and crunchy to bite. Overall the standard was below average. Such a shame for somewhere that should have a great reputation.
Service was a little slow, portion size for the set menu was a bit small especially the goats cheese mousse. That said, food was very tasty and nice ambiance
Pleasant evening, delightful friendly staff. Food a little disappointing. Mine... goats cheese mouse was not very mouse like and somewhat bitter. Beetroot salad consisted on of sliver of beetroot sadly. Main, for me, crayfish and pea risotto, hunt the cray fish and the risotto was very dense and 'pudding like' with cheese overkill which masked any hint of the crayfish. My dinner partner had chilli beef, not much evidence of chilli but acceptable. Menu doesn't appear to change very often sadly. would go again, and have been before but would try to choose more wisely.
Food good (not excellent). Poor service (slow to take order, very slow to bring food, 45 minutes + to clear our plates after main course).
Great food, excellent service and an all round lovely experience. Deffinetly not your normal pub grub, and at a very reasonable price considering the quality.
Staff tried hard but generally seemed stressed. The presentation of food lacked finesse, the menu was interesting but did not live up to expectations. The duck breast with a gravy like sauce with Stilton salad did not work, the menu did not make you aware it would be served with such a sauce.
We had to change our time and add people the staff were brilliant. One of our party was vegan and they couldn't have been more helpful. Our meals were fantastic and we went back for ice cream after our walk. We will be going again.
Sadly due to an accident I was an hour late but the staff we great . The portions are not large, only had the two course from the menu de jour ,followed by a very nice coffee.
Amazing! Best smoked salmon and beef we've had for a long time! Brilliant staff...the only thing I felt lacking was the very poor lighting, even at lunchtime! We went to the finches arms 20 years' ago after our wedding and loved it then...many thanks to all, Alex and Nick. Oh yes and sorry but the Yorkshire pud was soggy!
The actual menu is nothing like sample online menu, was quite disappointed with what was actually on the menu and not enough choice. Service was scatty, reasonably slow and waiters are in no way knowledgable. Food was okay, not bad but nothing special. Reasonably priced, no where near as good as it had been in the past. Bit of a disappointment, wouldn't return or recommend. Nice location though
Excellent, food, accommodation and staff. From the moment we arrived we were well looked after by the receptionist. Staff were witty and happy. The food was out of this world.
Very nice food and friendly atmosphere. Food needed to arrive at he same time to award a higher mark. Slightly over priced but rectified without bother.
In a beautiful setting near Rutland Water. Wonderful food - particularly enjoyed roast chicken for 2 to share. Staff very pleasant. We'll definitely be back!
This is one of my favourite restaurants but a few things really let it down on Sunday. Firstly, not all menu options were available, i did however ask if replacements would be offered to be told no, to only see once we had ordered that this happened! My Bf ended up eating something he didn't really want just because they wouldn't ask the chef about an alternative for us, but then did after we had ordered. Secondly when the mains came out, one came lacking some veg, just little things like that do make a difference. 3 of us had brownie for dessert and it was rock solid and not like a brownie at all! It should have been heated to allow it to be like a brownie! Also the view of Rutland water was lacking, it appears the bushes need trimming as there was a tiny gap to see the water and only one table could enjoy this view! Disappointing when it's one reason people go. After raving to my family about this place and also going there for a special occasion I felt really let down. Although the food was okay, the little touches and attention to detail were really lacking!
Good restaurant, excellent staff, and the food is highly recommended. My lamb was a bit tough, but my partner's risotto was highly rated by her - a risotto expert.
