Excellent food, well served by unobtrusive staff despite the restaurant being very busy. Located in a very quiet village the car parking can be a challenge but we will most definitely return.
Terrible service. Had to wait 20 minutes for someone to take an order. The lady who served us was miserable and made us feel like she was doing us a favour. Average food. We were there 2 hours and only got to eat 1 course. Our 4 year old git rather tired.
Great food, but service a bit slow. Great atmosphere in the restaurant and the menu was extensive enough to ensure it suited all of us
Great food, nice atmosphere and lovely views. The forgetful and unattentive service lets it down. While we were there 7 tables had paid and left, their tables were still not fully cleared when we left over an hour after some of them.
This place was recommended to us by the Barnsdale Lodge, where we were staying. We had an extremely pleasant lunch there and would thoroughly recommend it to others. The food was nicely presented and extremely tasty and the staff were pleasant. We shall certainly return when we are next in the area.
Disappointing on many levels. Having a restaurant in the same open area as a wedding reception is not sensible. Don't go expecting a quiet, romantic meal. It got so loud we asked to move so we could at least hear each other rather than the increasingly noisy celebrations going on nearby. It would have helped if we had been informed at the time of booking that a large party would be held at the same time. Management also needs to properly train its staff. I ordered a steak but wasn't asked how I'd like it done. We ordered coffees only for the waiter to walk away to prepare two americanos without giving us a chance to specify what time of coffee we preferred. I could go on believe me but hopefully I've given an impression of a chaotic, noisy venue supported by a willing workforce who all seem out of their depth when it comes to customer care. As for the litmus test, no we shan't be returning.
The food was a little pricey and the table we were allocated was adjacent to two large tables with parties on which meant it was noisy.
Very slow service and food not that hot, although tasty. Asked for bill 5 times, as just wanted to go , already spent 3 hours on two course at lunch.
Have dined here many times which perhaps speaks for itself - we keep coming back! As usual, we were served delicious food which was well-presented and the staff were friendly and attentive.
Food was great but service was appalling from start to finish. Unfriendly bar and waiting staff. Very un attentive. Table not even set properly, toilets were dirty too.
Great place with some amazing views over Rutland Water. The food was excellent, especially the chilli beef. We cannot wait to go again in the summer so we can sit outside.
Homely feel with a welcoming roaring fire in the bar and friendly staff. Lovely restaurant with great views over Rutland water. Food good service a little slow.
Ok but not great service and odd decor at the back for such an old area. Food was ok but not as good as I was expecting as £21 for two courses! Overpriced and under serviced but has great potential.
A most enjoyable lunch, in a lovely environment Very friendly staff and fabulous food, and the best coffee I've had for a long time. Thank you.
We had visited the Finches Arms a couple of times to enjoy the wonderful views of lovely countryside. On this damp and chilly bank holiday Monday in March we had to remain inside. However my wife and I thought the main course of pan fried cod with chorizo sausage was one of the tastiest dishes we had enjoyed for a long time, and we shall no doubt be returning soon.
Not a lot of choice in the set lunch but no complaints. The chocolate bread and butter pudding was to die for. Lovely dining room overlooking Rutland Water.
The food and the service was excellent. The room was warm and comfortable. Unfortunately for some reason the table d'hote menu didn't seem to be available.
Excellent venue. Lovely food and attentive staff. Definitely a venue I would return to very soon. Beautifully presented food and a fine selection of wine.
I took friends who had never been before who were extremely impressed. It has such a great atmosphere and caters for all - posh lunches or hikers like us.
Excellent from start to finish. We asked for a table with a view and got one. The food and service was top notch. We all had the cod loin and it was cooked to perfection.
Excellent good but service was slow. Restaurant was comfortable and the range if wine was good. We had a good evening and we will return
Excellent food and service. All dishes were beautifully prepared and presented. The menu offered a delightful selection of starters, main courses and desserts. The chocolate parfait with white chocolate ice cream was sumptuous.
A lovely setting with great service and family friendly atmosphere. The food is excellent with a great choice and service that is a great credit to the pub.
Lovely location overlooking Rutland Water. Saturday lunch light options were sensibly priced and tasty. Service at the bar was chaotic. Staff in the restaurant were friendly but not particularly responsive. Despite it only being moderately busy, service was rather slow.
Delicious food and nice range of beers including local ale. friendly staff, nice view over Rutland Water from garden. Welcoming to children but no high chairs available.
Really exceptional experience; great service, friendly staff, delicious food, child-friendly, amazing setting with a terrace overlooking Rutland Water - felt like being on holiday. Loved it and will definitely return.
The food were well presented, but could have been tastier. Waiting times between meal courses were too long. Staff were courteous. Overall, it was an ok experience.
Went for Sunday lunch, was busy, good food, lovely starters not enough gravy with the beef. Poor service, waiting staff need more training as lack of attention to detail. We were sat outside, maybe it was better inside
Great menu and food. Sensibly priced wine list. Stunning location. Good outdoor seating. Real shame the service was very disappointingly - slow, confused and disorganised.
The food was amazing and the service very good. We had a very enjoyable lunch. The set menu was very good value. I would visit here again.
We had a great meal and there was more than one choice for vegetarian! Hooray! Staff very friendly and helpful. Will definitely go again soon!
Lovely atmosphere and the food was delicious. A fine selection of wines and beers. The staff were polite but a little busy. No wonder with such a good restaurant.
Beautiful location in Hambleton. Could not fault the room and the ambience in the place is really nice. The meal was excellent, in fact the best steak that I can remember eating anywhere, Nice staff and a generally very pleasant experience all round.
Been many times and it was the usual good experience, although towards the end of a busy lunch, one of the staff (male) was a little abrupt for no reason...
Lovely venue, great service, exceptional food!! Staff were attentive without being intrusive making sure we had everything required as and when. A really nice evening and highly recommended.
Service was far too slow. They had a big party to contend with but the very young waiting staff did not have the experience to explain to the other guests that delays could be expected. Our beef was cold and returned to the ktchen. The plates were "grilled" and then returned with very little ceremony. The cermaic was thermo blast hot but the beef was still cold. The waiter offered to take the meal away again but we'd waited so long we refused and ate the vegetables (which were very nice) instead. When we came to pay we were only charged for two of the four meals as compensation. The way this was handled was the most efficient aspect of the visit which may tell its own story. I ate at the restaurant a few years ago and it was excellent so today was either an off day (we all have them) or something has changed for the worst.
Excellent service, superb food. We have never had a bad meal here. Staff are very helpful . Advisable to book as it is always very busy
Great pub in the picturesque village of Hambleton nice atmosphere with open fires, friendly helpful staff and a choice of fabulous food from their talented chefs
Welcoming staff. Excellent menu choice offered on menu. Delicious, well presented food. Bottomless Complimentary water! Very good service all matched with excellent views over picturesque Rutland Water and the beautiful Barnsdale Hall & parkland.
Lovely venue on a beautiful sunny day. Food was excellent except my steak which I asked for rare was most definitely not, however all credit to the staff as it was rectified promptly.
Fabulous rooms, location, service and food. Hotel/pub staff very friendly and accommodating. The bar with an open field is relaxing and inviting. I would definitely recommend it as excellent value for money. I have been three times now.
Food and service was lovely. One or two grips regarding service. Arm right in front of the face when collecting a glass without warning and putting cutlery down holding the fork prongs! The young lad may have been training. Restaurant was buzzing with lovely log fires in the pub blazing Look forward to going again.
Great venue with very reasonably priced set menu. Relaxed atmosphere & appreciated that we could have stayed on the table all afternoon. Definitely will return.
Good food, chicken roast was moist and delicious. Starter of salmon really nice. Only Roast potatoes not good as they were soft. Lively atmosphere, and good view outside. Would come here again.
Really great food, service a little slow at times but it was very busy due to being a bank holiday. Nice beers on tap too.
Excellent food and wine. Service was very good. Restaurant was busy but food was of a very high standard, fresh and well prepared. Would definitely visit again
We were recommended the Finchs Arms by a friend so made the 50 min journey from Leicestershire (our friends came from Derby) with our young daughter. Whilst the food was decent and spectacular views, the service was very disappointing (very slow & unattentive) & and most notably, there was no highchair facility when I had requested it when booking online. This led me to believe they had not read my request as if there was no such facility I would have expected a call to explain this so I could make alternative arrangements. In saying that, I find it astonishing that a country pub/restaurant near the family destination of Rutland water does not have high chairs. Similar to our group, other nearby diners had to hold/ pass round their children whilst eating their meal with one hand. For a restaurant with lots of potential, we will unfortunately not be returning.
Fantastic food, we ate at lunch and dinner and both meals were great. Lovely staff and superb surroundings. Have already recommended to many friends and will definitely return.
Fantastic Mother's Day meal, great service, great value food. Would definitely visit again. Had a lovely table overlooking Rutland water so that was really nice too
The finches arms is a lovely pub/restaurant, parking is a problem as the car park is small. We went at lunchtime and were offered a bar and restaurant menu so there was lots of choice. The standard of food was excellent, however my choice of goats cheese tart was a little bland and slightly undercooked. My husband had the venison which he thoroughly enjoyed. In all for two starters, two mains and two alcoholic drinks the bill came to £53......this for me fell into the average to slightly expensive range, but the surroundings and food more than made up for it. In all a nice lunch in a very pretty village.
