Quiet retreat from the bustle of st.pauls. Friendly service. Good food. Not a chain. American menu. Cocktails and wine if requires. Quick and efficient. Lovely.

Lovely food and atmosphere, drinks were exceptional too and not at all expensive. Chicken and waffles was amazing and I was amazed I didn't even have room for dessert, definetly a must next time!

Great food, great atmosphere. The cocktails here were also surprisingly good. Small, but super. I would definitely come back here again. The staff were also really lovely and friendly, and all in all exactly what one would look for when going out.

Nice food, different, reasonably priced. A good range of deep south dishes at a reasonable price, with a good range of wines, and unusual cocktails and quirky bourbon and vinegar combinations. No fuss restaurant with a pub attached.

Great meal as ever - this restaurant is reliably good unlike many others. My only hesitation in recommending it would be that it makes it more difficult for me to get a table!

Fried chicken and waffles was excellent, and the cornbread is a must. Cocktails were also oustanding. Would highly recommend for American soul food with a prohibition speakeasy ambiance

We felt a little rushed and found it staff were not as attentive as they could have been, for this reason we did not stay for another drink as we waitied 20 minutes to be able to ask to get one so got the bill instead

The Fat Bear is a funky, fabulous find. Situated a stone's throw from St Paul's Cathedral above a pub, the small dining room feels intimate without being cramped. The staff are friendly, and willing to help - my dining partner has dairy allergies, and our server was more than happy to go talk to the chef to get recommendations on what would suit her. Drinks are good - a fantastic selection of spirits and cocktails. We didn't look at the wine list, but if beer is what floats your boat, then they have a choice of Brew Dog Kingpin Lager or Punk IPA - both excellent beverages. The server brought iced water to the table without being asked as well, which was a pleasant surprise. Food though is what this place is all about. They specialise in American soul food, and the menu left me drooling and struggling to choose. In the end, I selected the gumbo, which was superb - very tasty, full of generous amounts of sausage, chicken and prawn, with a nice, gentle spice level (no need for copious amounts of milk or iced water to soothe the burn!) with a side of cornbread. The cornbread is baked to order, so takes around 15 minutes, but was delicious and worth the wait. I also plumped for the fried pickles, which was a portion big enough for at least two, but still nicely moist in the centre (i.e. not deep-fried to oblivion). My dining partner went for the brisket, which was also a generous portion, and very tasty, just falling apart. The bill overall was very reasonable - just over £30 each including a gin and tonic each, so quite reasonable for Central London. All in all, an excellent dining experience, and one I hope to repeat in the future - I have my eye firmly on the jambalaya next time!

Great place for food and drinks, will be coming back! Solid date environment, small and intimate. Only criticism would be that where our table was it was quite dark so difficult to see the menu.

Amazing, as always!! This is the best restaurant in London and our expectations when eating out are high. Unpretentious, friendly, welcoming staff deliver incredibly tasty, reasonably priced food and drink (especially cocktails) in a cozy environment. Perfect night out!!

Wonderful service. Fantastic cocktails. Don’t miss the cornbread or pimento cheese. Quiet enough to carry on a pleasant conversation, which was nice considering how loud most restaurants are today. Enjoy!

What a fantastic find! The ambience and atmosphere is so enjoyable, you feel like you are in the deep south of USA in someone's living room! It was our first visit and hopefully the first of many, we live in the north west of UK but on our next visit we have said we will definitely be visiting The Fat Bear. The staff are so friendly and helpful. We had Gumbo, corndogs, seafood jambalaya and chicken & waffles - Wow!! Make sure you go here on your next visit!! Thank you so much for making our visit so enjoyable!

Great food. Loved the burger and service. My only grumble is an operational one that you can order the food from the restaurant when down in the pub 'The Rising Sun' (and have whatever pub beverages they sell) but when up in the restaurant you can only choose set drinks from their menu which only includes two beers and the rest is wine and cocktails. Would be good to make it reciprocal between the two.

Excellent food, service and ambience. I even liked the fact that the tables were lined up in such a way that patrons could move about without knocking into the staff! The only I'm not giving it a score of 6 was that the restroom has a ridiculously low ceiling and I hit my head.

Food was great, felt like you were sat in someone's house more than a restaurant which gave it a real home cooked personal feel. Staff were very pleasant. Recommend the Gumbo.
