As with our previous visit, the service was slow. We were going to a show at Leas Cliff Hall, start time 8pm. Our table was booked for 5.45pm., we left the restaurant at 7.35pm. Would have liked a bit more time before finishing our meal and the start of the show. The food was exceptional.

I can't rate this place highly enough, that's the second amazing meal we have had at The Cliffe Restaurant. My meal was tender, full of flavour and delightful. The staff were fantastic and I can't wait to come back for more. It's definitely the best steak I've ever eaten, somebody please give the chef a pat on the back from us. I'll stop typing now as I'm getting hungry!

Food was good as usual but service way off normal standard of friendliness. Booked for lunch as have done many times before we were given the a la carte menu, we have always been given the lunch menu in the past so I asked for this and we were told in a very abrupt manner that we would need to decide as a party which menu we were having as the kitchen could not cope with some of us choosing the lunch menu & others the a la carte, & as we had booked the restaurant we should choose off the a la carte! Our party was a party of 6 & the restaurant was very quiet! & the bar wasn’t busy either!

The waitress didn’t know anything about the menu and service was at best glacial. Our starters were fine but the mains were a disaster. The fillet steaks were so thought and very Poor’S quality meat full of sinuw, we sent those back and the chef admitted that they were not acceptable, so how did they get sent out?? The sea bass was on a cold base and barely warm itself We were offered a voucher towards a free meal but declined as wild horses will not get me back there again.

Dined from a la carte menu while overnighting in hotel. F.A.B.U.L.O.U.S! Having successfully tried the tapas meu in the bar for lunch we had high expectations for dinner- we were certainly not disappointed! Excellent service, delicious food and great value! Highly recommended, thank you!

Excellent food and the staff are very pleasant although slightly unorganised. Surprised they don’t have a menu of what spirits they have, my partner had to go and look at the till to see what spirits he could choose from. Waited 40 minutes for our main meals. We noticed other tables being served their mains before us even though we had been there longer. We didn’t mention anything as we were in no rush and were enjoying sitting and drinking our drinks. The waitress eventually bought our meals over and apologised for the wait. They also forgot my dessert and it was only that one of the waiters noticed I had been given cutlery and had sat waiting for a while that he chased it up and found that our ticket had been missed by the kitchen. Not really sure what the problem was with our table and missing our orders but we didn’t complain. The lemon meringue dessert wasn’t very nice, too sweet and the meringue was a runny mess but our seabass main meals and the Thai mussels and soft shell crab starters made up for what the dessert lacked. Although service was a bit of a let down we will definately return.

The food was cold had to be sent back to the kitchen to reheat. The gravy should be served separately not pored over the meal the food was swimming in gravy. The staff were pleasant but a bit more training would be good. Overall disappointing.

Sunday lunch. Excellent starters, slightly over cooked beef, dry Yorkshire but nicely done veg. Good tart but the lemon overpowered the elderflower. All nicely presented by competent staff.

A nice place. Good food, good service. Reasonably priced too. Would return. It’s a bistro type restaurant, rather than traditional dining. Could probably do with more of an atmosphere.
