Booking was for 6.30pm and specials starter of Haggis Scotch Egg was no longer available as already sold out, Hake dish on the a la carte menu was also sold out and we were not advised of this until we were ready to order, found the restaurant noisy, food that we did order was satisfactory

A wonderful place for our anniversary meal, helpful and kind staff who go above and beyond to make you feel at home, food served quickly and masterfully, portion sizes that are more than apt. True value for little Braintree, never too busy, amazing drinks menu. Highly recommended

Nice intimate clean space with soft lighting. Attentive and friendly staff, delicious locally sourced food prepared with excellence. An intentionally long gap between courses to allow for digestion! Menu is not overwhelming. We have only rated the food 5 instead of 6 because we were not particularly fond of the onion rings and thought the sorbet was a bit too boozy - but that is just personal preference. Value for money has been rated as 'expensive' - it is! But it does reflect a high quality of cooking. We were sat next to a fairly loud table so have rated the noise levels as average. Will definitely be returning!

The food was excellent but too much. Table for two not in an ideal place by stairs where people passing while you eating and waitresses carrying food. Also table too small to cater for amount of food presented in individual dishes. A little uncomfortable.

Brunch menu was very limited, no eggs Benedict or smoked salmon. We have been sat at the table without menu for about 5 minutes and waited for drinks 25 minutes. Will not be coming back.

The restaurant was perfectly decorated for Christmas. I was expecting a Christmas menu. I was mistaken. Soup was crunchy, Sunday roasts OK, veg cooled very quickly, my dessert (jamroly poly) was for me inedible.

They make a big deal about the roast potatoes being the heart of the meal - ours were NOT at all crispy. All of the meats were overcooked, the beef was inedible. I commented to the waitress who said she'd pass it on. All of the veg and the Yorks pud were excellent. I would NOT eat there again.

Ive been to the chop house a few times before and have always had a lovely experience. The food last night was delicious and the waitress was delightful. It was the first visit for friends who joined us and they were impressed with everything.

Staff friendly, food was great, atmosphere was lovely overall a great experience. The only thing I would say is last time I went we had bottomless Prosecco and they would top up your glass even if you had taken a sip, this time our glasses were empty on a fair few occasions but didn’t take away from the experience.

Great little restaurant tucked away in the back streets of Braintree, friendly staff and excellent food. Tried the mid-week special menu, would recommend not leaving it too late to dine as they do run out of dishes. However, still enough choice, probably the best sausage and mash I've ever had.

I had high hopes for The Chophouse! Unfortunately, it didn't live up to them. The staff were friendly and helpful but the service was mostly slow throughout the evening. Our main courses were brought to us after a long wait and not all together so we had to wait for one of the meals (steak) to arrive while those that had arrived were getting cold. When the steak arrived, it came without a steak knife so again had to wait for a waiter to pass so that we could request one. The two lamb dishes ordered were supposed to come with "beef fat potatoes" which to me and everyone else at the table meant roast potatoes. Instead they were boiled and crushed and mixed with what appeared to be mushroom - I do not eat mushrooms and so left all of the potatoes. The lamb was ok, not great, part of it was mushy!!?! There was also a sauce with the lamb which appeared to have cheese in it - again, not what was on the menu. I ended up leaving most of the meal and thought I'd be asked how it was when the waiter came to collect plates but instead was given a sheepish look as the plates were collected. I should have said then it was disappointing and not what was stated on the menu. Desserts were ok as were the starters - albeit over-priced. The meal came to approx £180 for three of us which I'd not have minded paying if the food and service was better. We heard two other patrons at separate tables complaining about food and service also. Shame to say I won't be visiting here again.
