I booked the table in advance. As soon as we arrived we were approached for our order & twice more within a short time although to be fair we did say come back in 10 minutes - but we hadn't seen each other for 3 years so hadn't looked at the menu so the repeat trips to take the order wasn't conducive to a relaxed atmosphere. Then we asked twice for a jug of tap water but on each occasion were only given a glass full each. Also we had to ask for a cooler for the remainder of the carafe of wine we ordered, which should have been provided. Then a cooler was bought up with the remnants of melted ice cubes in which was disappointing. I ordered the pear, walnut & blue cheese salad - but there were no walnuts in it with no explanation given! Then a large pretty noisy group arrived & were sitting opposite us on a long table. This was still relatively early at 6 p.m so we decided to leave & have coffees elsewhere. Overall not a great experience.

We love the Chancel. It never fails to deliver on service and food. The wine is pretty good too! Probably our favourite restaurant in Plymouth. Everyone in our party had a clean plate for every course (and we all had 3 ) and then had coffee and brandy after.

Had a bottle of wine outside in the sun. Menu was good and service friendly and efficient. Pre-theatre menu very good and food excellent. Really good food experience.

Have been to the Chancel many times. Excellent food, service, atmosphere. The staff are great, nothing is too much trouble. If you have never been, you should, you will not be disappointed.

Lovely food, good portion size. Individual tables just a little too small so a bit short on table space. Service good and speed of service good pace.

A cosy restaurant in a convenient location. Homely and unpretentious, I will certainly be returning .

We went as a party of three before a film at 6:00pm. As always, the service was attentive and efficient. I had my favourite, the fish stew, delicious. My husband had the smoked beef goulash which he said was delicious. Our daughter had seafood pasta, which she was also delighted with. The puddings we had were amazing, chocolate pannacotta. A lovely experience.

The Chancel is my favourite restaurant in Plymouth It'd nicer to have a table in the main part of the restaurant but it was quite busy so we were in the extension area

I had the fish stew. Excellent flavour and quite filling.

Second time here, first was for my wedding anniversary, just me and my wife. Had a fabulous meal and service was nothing less than excellent. Went with some family members for a tapas lunch and again cannot fault this place, highly recommended and in my opinion good value for the food and service. Will be here again very soon.

Had an evening meal for our wedding anniversary. Nice touch - a little banner of congratulations was placed above our table and they gave us a congratulatory card. Very nice food, reasonably competitively priced. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Didn’t feel rushed or abandoned. Table near the toilet so would sit somewhere different next time but didn’t spoil the experience. Overall thoroughly recommended.

Nice, comfortable atmosphere. Food was good but only offered frites with meals and it would have been nice to have new potatoes with lamb and other meals.

Fabulous as always. Prawns in garlic and scallops in garlic to start, steak and chicken in Madeira and cream for main.... pineapple fritter to share topped off a lovely evening. Consistently good
