YOU HAVE TO ASK FOR THE SET MENU IT IS NOT READILY AVAILABLE. THE FOOD WAS GOOD HOWEVER NOT A LOT ON THE PLATE. THE STARTER LOOKED AS IF IT HAD BEEN ONE PORTION MADE INTO TWO HALF PORTIONS AS DID DESSERT. SAVING GRACE WAS THE PULLED PORK ROLL! WATCH OUT FOR ADDED GRATUITIES HAD BOOKED TO RETURN NEXT WEEK BUT WILL BE CANCELLING
Very disappointing. On arrival, bad sign was there was a chap standing outside the restaurant handing out cards to passers-by, trying to drum up business (like you get abroad). That was worrying and sadly our fears were well grounded. We asked for drinks outside first and waited so long for our order to be taken that we had to go inside and place it ourselves! Then a pretty long wait for them to come. Food was average and really overpriced for hat it was. Fish & chips looked like it had come from our local 'chippie' , according to my friend who had it, it wasn't as good and it cost about £14 (I think). My sticky toffee pudding was one of the worst I've had. Found the waitress's efforts to sell more (sides / port with desserts) a bit desperate. Smacked of trying too hard. Sorry, but they need help to get this place on track.
Wonderful experience as usual: the food was delicious and the service superb (we had a lovely girl from Crema who looked after us in an excellent way). I will certainly be back with other customers!
We sat in the small area upstairs but the service was good and cooler than downstairs. The food was excellent and great service which only tapered off near the end as they started to tidy up downstairs. The lost mark was because of this as we said we wanted a desert but got the bill. This was sorted but when I was asked to pay with the machine the bill was downstairs and the waitress wanted me to pay without seeing the bill ! Minor glitch which was resolved on what was a nice evening.
I had dinner with a friend on Saturday 14th July, table booked for 7.15pm. Our server was Julia and she couldn't have been more helpful with menu suggestions and lots of knowledge regarding the ingredient in certain menu choices as my friend is gluten/wheat intolerant. Food was excellent and nicely presented. Overall a fantastic first visit and I know I will definitely be back. Julia has certainly played a large part in my decision to return.
enjoyed our meal, good ambience, staff very polite and accommodating, great service, we would definitely go back, had the set menu which was great value and good wine list
A great meal with excellent service for us and our friends visiting from Australia. Would have been perfect if the table wasn't right next to the toilet door.
Called in for early meal as we had tour booked later, the meal was excellent and the staff member who serves us was friendly and informative. Thanks
Excellent food such good value Restaurant is a bit hidden but worth searching for £15 for a fabulous 3 course lunch with goid service make it worthwhile
Tried the restaurant for a work lunch first time a few months ago...and fell in love with it! The food is locally sourced and always fresh. A great place
It is always a pleasure to eat at The Cellar door. The quality of the food is outstanding, and so is the service! Surely my favourite place in Edinburgh!
Lovely restaurant with great staff. Food was excellent - had fish and chips which was really tasty and sticky toffee pudding which was amazing! Would definitely recommend and would return.
Best food for the price in Edinburgh. Will be back soon
Staff was above and beyond all expectation and the food was delicious! We had trouble waiting for a guest that never arrived and our first wine was corked and replaced no problem. I highly recommend coming here!
We went down a lot of stairs to a rather dark ambience. The restaurant was very quiet on a Friday lunchtime, surprisingly so with a lot of folk walking around on Geo 1V Bridge in Edinburgh & The General Assembly on with 700 attendees. A young lady had greeted us at street level handing out cards giving 10% off. The service of food was not quick, given only 2or 3 other tables occupied but the prix fixee menu food was good especially the fish , chips (hand cut) and pea puree. The desserts were limited but there were no wafers with the ice cream or sorbets which I found very disappointing as I always like to have wafers or similar with my ice cream or sorbet. The bill was quite reasonable but despite having the 10% off card we were told that the "special" lunch menu took account of this so it did not apply. Overall it was ok for a lunch but anyone with walking difficulties would find the stairs a problem. There were a couple of tables at street level but one would feel quite isolated eating there. The waitress was very attentive but should have known what flavours of ice creams & sorbets were on offer without having to go and ask. With a plethora of eating places around here we felt that the location & ambience did not match up to others but the food we had was good value and freshly cooked and well presented.
This is a gem of a restaurant! Serves a brilliant Scottish menu, really well cooked and presented. Very friendly staff. Comfortable, clean with a relaxed ambience. Highly recommended.
Wonderful food at a great cosy table. The Cullen skink was simply delicious and all four of us had clean plates after all 3 courses. Service was excellent too.
We came here for my Mum's 80th birthday, and the restaurant could not have been more welcoming or made more of a fuss of her. From a warm welcome to the birthday girl at the door (I had pre-warned them when I booked), to a complimentary glass of prosecco and a beautiful happy birthday message on her dessert, they made her feel so special from start to finish. The decor and food were lovely; this really was a very nice restaurant. Highly recommended.
Great Scottish dishes at reasonable prices. Very friendly service. We will be back one Day.
Beautiful restaurant. Small and intimate, class servers, Nice choice of food and wine and a very pleasant ambience. Would definitely recommend and I look forward to dining there again
Great atmosphere, really busy but No rush for table, staff excellent, really knowledgeable and friendly, very approachable. Menu good prices reasonably good too. Would recommend this restaurant to my friends
What a fabulous Resturant, friendly staff, great ambiance and as for the food, flavours wonderful and lovely Scottish twists. We loved the pudding a cheesecake based on a Scottish dessert. Cranachan - hmmm
Ein sehr nettes Lokal mitten in Edinburgh. Essen war lecker und wir hatten einen schönen Abend.
Waiter kept ‘bouncing’ around us, took our plates away very quickly. All seemed very rushed. Food was ‘ok’ compared to our last visit. Too many other places to eat/try before I’d come back. Sorry.
Excellent restaurant. Staff are very friendly and were very helpful in advising us what to eat from their menu selection. They were also very helpful with advising us in what wines to select.
The restaurant looks amazing. The food taste really good and look very presentable. I will highly recommend the place. But I do think the portions are small. I will go again. I love the haggis as a starter and venison steak as main.
Great food and really nice atmosphere. The staff were friendly and efficient. Limited menu choice, but a varied mix of high quality food. I will definitely go again.
The staffs are pleasant and friendly. Food is decent and it goes well with the wine. The ambience of the restaurant is quiet and enjoyable.
Lovely food, good service. Really warm and comfortable feel to restaurant. We weren’t rushed and enjoyed a very pleasant leisurely meal. Would definitely go back.
Really nice restaurant and the food was excellent. Friendly and helpful staff, the restaurant was busy without being overcrowded. Very imaginative menu and reasonably priced.
Lovely restaurant. The food was amazing especially the gnocchi. Not a big menu but had a good choice on it. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Slow service, average food. Had to wait a while for each course and repeat order several times. Wouldn't return, much better places to go for Scottish cuisine
Tasty food. warm welcome. Warm room. Our waiter was particularly helpful and friendly without being over familiar. We don't particularly like being called " guys " but we've given that one up.
Good food and very friendly staff. The Cullen skink starter was especially good. It was a real benefit that the restaurant was open from late afternoon as it meant we could have an unrushed pre-theatre meal. Will definitely go back.
Very enjoyable. Friendly and helpful staff. Good food well cooked well presented. Would recommend to my friends to go when visiting Edinburgh for the day.
Mixed feelings on starters some not hot enough. We felt rushed and had starters and mains in under an hour. Errors made with drinks. Have ate here before and service was a lot better maybe just a bad night.
We went for a romantic meal and didn't disappoint. Amazing food and super friendly staff, we really enjoyed the experience. Great Scottish products and beers, we highly recommended!
Great Scottish food and excellent service. we will definitely be returning there again, Best to book a table as it was fully booked last night.
The Cellar Door serves delicious food. It’s a homely environment with friendly and attentive staff who ensure a very speedy service and make sure you have everything that you need.
Very enjoyable experience. Would always recommend for a friend in Edinburgh.
Great food, atmosphere is relaxed and staff were very helpful. A gem amongst the rocks. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for a Scottish dining experience
We Visited on a Saturday night. Super food, atmosphere and service at the Cellar Door/. We would particularly recommend the venison. Great wine selection too.
Very good food and service, staff friendly and helpful. Venison was outstanding. Menu is small but had seafood and vegetarian selections. Cozy below street location. Will be back
Excellent meal. Very good food and service. Enjoyed the haggis starter and the venison steak was great. Recommend - particularly for pre theatre meal before going to Festival theatre
Fantastic meal and service, small and cosy feel about the restaurant...best dinner I have had in a long time...will definitely reccomend to all my family and friends
Perfect 80th Birthday dinner for Mum, daughter and grand daughter. Food delicious and well presented ample portions. Staff friendly and attentive - will definitely return and would highly recommend.
Delicious food, great service and good price. The place is lovely upstairs but a bit old fashioned downstairs. That would be my only negative comment.
Had a meal with my family. All was very good! Staff were friendly and the food was delicious !! I would highly recommend it 😊
Great food and friendly service. Hidden gem which is suitable for a meal out with friends or family. Been to restaurant several times and never disappointed.
Friendly, welcoming, nice ambience, good food, though early evening menu a bit limited, with emphasis on vegetarian food. Desserts uninspired, so not tempted. Very good coffee.
