Relaxed and unrushed. Lunch time set menu was good value and the dishes we chose were well cooked and well presented. This was a catch-up of two friends who hadn't met up for five years, so much chatting was done. At no time did we feel that we were a nuisance for sitting so long. THANK YOU...we had a very enjoyable lunch.

Not worth the price and all was a bit mediocre. The cut of the salmon was a tail end and the tiny tiny slices of cheese for £7,95 were outrageous.

great food and service. The waitresses were all very kind. The pudding is just awesome. Highly recommend this smal restaurant that is just beside the Elephant House

The food was great and so was the service :) The only thing that bothered us at this really nice restaurant was the music. It was something like 80-90s hits, which killed the mood a little bit.

Overpriced, nothing special. Lots of better places to go in the area with more character and choice. Service was good though, and the location is handy.

Very limited lunchtime menu and uninspiring choices. It was difficult to detect any overall Scottish theme, as advertised. We will not be returning. Service was very good, though.

Great food, excellent service in a fun environment located centrally in Edinburgh just off the Royal Mile, the best meal we had during our four day stay.

All four of us enjoyed our meal, 2 burgers, salmon and venison. Good service, nice food and a good atmosphere. Not bad value for the location. Would definitely come here again.

Service was very good , food was lovely. Only downside was the lighting - like eating in the dark. Having said that this wouldn’t stop us returning.

Absolutely love this place. Been 3 times now and it never fails - the staff are lovely, the food is phenomenal and it's all pretty fairly priced for what you get. For traditional Scottish food in a gorgeous setting, there's nowhere else to be.

We liked the food and the atmosphere. But we are very frustrated as we just learned that our nephew and niece bought upfront a bottle of wine to be delivered to our table, and it never got to us.

Good atmosphere in a basement location; the service was friendly and professional! The pre-theater menu offers a nice variety at a reasonable price with traditional scottish food. We had an enjoyable dinner!

Great food and friendly service in the cosy restaurant. Good in summer (can get a little warm) but extra special in the winter. Varied menu.

Very pleasant atmosphere. Good menu. We liked our mushroom risotto and venison. Desserts were also very good. For my taste they might offer more seafood selection. But it is really a very nice restaurant.

We were 5 people in a hurry and staff were very obliging in serving us quickly. Lovely fish and chips. The huge space downstairs is unexpectedly light and airy. Would return.

Outstanding menu and wine list, excellent and friendly service, and great atmosphere. I cannot say enough about the food and selection of wines. I have had nothing but the best service from the staff every time I have been here. It is a must-stop for me whenever I find myself in Edinburgh.

We had a lovely family lunch here during the Festival, modern restaurant, polite staff and lovely food. Great choices on the Menu, perhaps more Gluten Free options would be better though.

The table was waiting for us and we were greeted and served by a friendly and professional team. It was tough making menu selections because we were tempted by several options but all four of us loved our choices. The emphasis is on Scottish dishes and I can confirm that the cullen skink was exceptional. They offer some relatively reasonable wines, which we enjoyed, and the espresso was very good.

We've enjoyed eating at this restaurant before, so booked for lunch during the Festival. As always, the food and staff were both excellent. The restaurant was busy but was a welcome oasis of calm in a very hectic city.

Phenomenal, friendly service and an excellently prepared traditional Scottish meal. The ambiance was hip without being offensive. The girls on bar and waitstaff here are truly delightful. 5 stars.

Another fab meal in one of Edinburgh's best restaurants! Excellent food. Exceptional service. The finest Scottish cuisine. My third visit to The Cellar Door, and each time my expectations are exceeded.

Very noisy and not terribly competant staff- you do not drop empty mixer bottles from a grea height into a binfull of glass, nor keep dropping and breaking glasses and stacks of trays. Food itself reasonable but no reason to return.

Lovely food, great location and very friendly staff. We had the fish platter for two, consisting of a variety of fish each cooked to differently, making for a very interesting meal. I'd highly recommend.

A warm welcome and our order taken, they forgot to bring the bread and olives until they were almost ready to serve the food. Our side plates were removed unceremoniously and the food served. It was rather dull and two of us thought it was rather cold. My salmon was nicely cooked but the potatoes it sat on we're barely warm. Pub grub and not the best of that, rather than restaurant food and rather overpriced. I know it is the festival but perhaps that is your chance to show off and shiine rather than embarrass yourselves. The waitresses were lovely but something needs to get sorted out between them and the kitchen.

Nice atmosphere, good menu with decent number of good veggie options, nicely judged food - fair prices and portions, well set for good service. If you like the look of the menu, then you should find they deliver on it.

Lovely smiling and knowledgeable staff along with relatively quick service. Easy to book dinner online. Only downside was the recommended main course (a seafood sharing fish off the specials menu) was a bit dry. Waitress did acknowledge the comments we made and said they'd be passed on to the chef. As an apology, we did receive a discount on the bill, which was good of them.

Gentilissimi all'accoglienza, posto romantico e intimo. Cibo squisito e gustoso, sia il pollo che il pesce. Alla fine, per il compleanno di mia moglie, hanno anche portato il dolce con con una simpatica candelina...

Very disappointing. Chicken satay and avocado for starter was served without avocado!! Starters were only warm. Table of 7 next to us also served wrong starters. We won't be back.
