This was a return visit to the Cellar Door as we found it last year during our Fringe Festival visit. The food is delicious, staff are lovely & atmosphere is great. We will visit again next year & any other time we are in Edinburgh.
Great service and the food was amazing. Booked this restaurant by chance as attending a fringe show close by. What a find, will definitely be back.
An enjoyable evening and meal, thank you we will return
Brief visit before theatre but service was fast and food good. Would visit again when we can linger a bit longer.
Excellent food. Excellent service. Highly recommended. Hope to visit ahain
Poor service. Food good but pricey.will not be returning. CullenSkink rissotto lacked flavour.
Good food, friendly service and an enjoyable evening. I would recommend it
The food doesnt resemble what they portray on the website. Wouldnt have gone if known.
I had booked a table for 4 at this restaurant > 5 weeks ago, to meet friends who had travelled from afar, at no point in the booking process was I told this was a 2 hour booking. 1 hour 20mins into our meal, I suggested we would like a rest before looking at the desert menu, and was told that this would not be possible as the table was needed for a further booking "quite soon." A second server came to speak to us, who suggested that all bookings were for 2 hours max, this was not mentioned at time of booking or indeed on website. After further discussion with staff we agreed to move to an alternative table to complete our meal. My husband and I are Scottish, and eat regularly in Edinburgh, we are not one off visitors, and were quite embarrassed at this scenario involving our guests who had travelled to the city.
We had a lovely dinner here. Cheerful and attentive wait staff, delicious food ( lamb - melt in the mouth good), and great atmosphere in a sweet hide-away.
Lovely staff and great service. Wonderful food and a nice cosy shelter from the rain!
Excellent meal, very good welcome, a very good typically Scottish restaurant in Edinburgh
The staff were lovely and very attentive Menu choice could be increased .
Intimate restaurant who coped with a very busy night excellently. Despite having large tables in they still attended excellently to the tables of two like us and our food was delicious, hot and prompt. The heirloom tomato salad was great.
Yet another fantastic visit to Cellar Door, one of our favourite restaurants in Edinburgh.
The service was great and the food was even better!
This was a good place to meet up with friends we hadn't seen for a while, not too noisy, so we were able to chat. The menu wasn't as extensive as I'd remembered, but we all found something that we enjoyed and the staff could accommodate a gluten free choice.
Very nice experience. Restaurant was just getting busy when we left. Therefore had full attention of staff, very nice ambience and food and wine was lovely.
Great service and very pleasant downstairs cellar. Thank you. P
Good foods with nice atmosphere and kind staff. I liked it.
Top service, lecker Essen, gutes Ambiente und außerdem sehr Kinderfreundlich.
It wasn’t just an amazing food but rather an amazing experience! We’ve decided to go for a special “Taste of Scotland” menu which doesn’t give you a choice but rather provides an opportunity to taste a number of most notorious local dishes. And all of them was astonishing, delicious. I guess the only regret we’ve had - we just couldn’t finish it all;-) Highly recommended!
My first haggis experience. Amazing ;-) A little bit too loud inside but it is a cellar. And because of that no problem.
Great food and very friendly service. We enjoyed the meal!
What a find ! Amazing place with such wonderful staff! Amber you are a gem! Lorna what a host! Food was excellent cooked to perfection.
Great food, great staff, great service. One of Edinburgh's hidden gems. Thoroughly recommend.
We had such lovely service and were actually surprised how good the food was. I had the haggis for a starter which was delicious. The lamb for main was cooked perfectly and I enjoyed the giant cous cous. I never usually have dessert but was tempted by the sticky toffee pudding. I loved that too! I was worried it was going to be touristy but it was full of local people. I would definitely come here again!
Cullen Skink main course had no lumps of fish in it. It was just a plain risotto in fish stock. Very disappointing.
Excellent value lunch menu with fantastic food. Very attentive waitress (Lydia)
Nice food and good service in a centrical cute place. Great lunch deal!
We were looking for a nice typical Scottish restaurant and we found it in this lovely restaurant with very kind servers and delicious food. We're from Holland and this was the first time we tried Haggis... and we didn't regret this at all.
Really enjoyed the food and atmosphere; service team was tremendous during a very busy evening. Highly recommended!
Staff really friendly, and graciously allowed us to do the set course menu for early-evening. If it had been a beautiful summer's evening, I may have preferred a less underground restaurant. But when it's dark out or pouring with rain, the Cellar Door is a lovely place to eat. I REALLY loved the offer of haggis or veggie haggis for £1 for visitors who may want to try the Scottish delicacy without committing too much.
Nice staff, tasty meal.Only table should be better placed, because of our bags, but we were satisfied.
Was casual, relaxing, good food and good location. Friendly staff.
Good but expensive food but quiet restaurant would go again
Very friendly with excellent food. Dietary requirements well cared for.
It’s always a pleasure to go to The Cellar Door. The food quality is great and service is outstanding!
An excellent meal at a very reasonable price. The staff were extremely helpful, patient, and friendly
Great spot, great hosts and really great food. Enough said!
Great service! Delicious food! I would definitely recommend this restaurant
Really tasty food for a reasonable price, will definitely go back.
Every restaurant can have a bad night but this was the worst meal we had during our week in Edinburgh. I hate to give a restaurant a bad review because I know how many jobs are attached. But I'd also hate for anyone to waste a night in Edinburgh here. The service and ambiance were fine but the food was not good. One of us had risotto that tasted as if it had simply been boiled in tap water. I could go on and on but if you're looking for somewhere to eat in Edinburgh...This is not a good choice.
It was a OK dinner for a Sunday night ...
The food was amazing and service was great! We are from New York (usa) and this was a great place for food and the atmosphere was interesting.
The haggis appetizer was delicious. The salmon and potato entree was perfectly cooked. The sticky toffee dessert was rich and satiating. A delicious meal!
I have been a few times but my friend had never been before and really liked the food and the service
Fantastic service, outstanding food with excellent drink pairing suggestions all reasonably priced considering the quality is so good! The ambience is set just right so that you feel you are in your own little private room, that you can totally relax and soak up every minute of the experience. One of the best places I have ever eaten! Definitely worth a visit!
The service and food was excellent. Molly was especially fabulous and her enthusiasm was shown.
Really satisfied. We were there basically just by ourselves as we missed the lunch rush, and it was perfect.
