Great place to go and we had great service from a new wait staff!
Really great experience, would love to go back when we have more time to experience the tasting menu
Excellent food and excellent service. Great atmosphere in a lovely restaurant.
We struggled to remember when we had last visited this wonderful restaurant as we don’t often travel from the south east of England, but this was as an amazing experience. They offered a hugely tempting six-course taster menu (which included a full vegetarian/vegan option) but we opted for haggis roll and vegetarian haggis; venison and sea trout; and we both elected to have the cheeseboard. The food was simply delicious and beautifully presented, and the staff were warm and attentive, without ever making us feel rushed. I would wholly recommend booking a table for a special dining experience.
Fantastic! Great vegan service and and and and and and
Overall, I found this restaurant a bit disappointing and definitely overpriced. The service was good, and our waitress was really lovely. The wine was nice and was reasonably priced. The food was very hit and miss. Our starters (haggis parcel and salmon mousse) were okay. My partner had venison as a main and he said it was okay but that the meat was definitely overcooked. I had steak and it was a rip off £28 for a very thin steak (apparently ribeye), and some chips..Nothing else. Steak was not quality, more like Tesco value. And it was really salty. Desert was nice - Lemon Possett.Overall our bill came to £160. Which was ridiculous considering the standard of food.we were served.
The food was fantastic, and the service was amazing. When I next visit Edinburgh, I'll definitely be revisiting.
Tasting menu was spectacular; sticky toffee pudding was best we’ve had in two weeks in Scotland. Highly recommend The Cellar Door!
Food was fresh and tasty. Portions were perfect. Ice cream with espresso and Baileys was perfect for dessert!
Lovely staff, great atmosphere, relaxed, no rush, wonderful tasting menus
Absolutely perfect spot to try out some authentic Scottish food. The service was great, very informative and helpful. The food was magnificent, savory, and tasteful. The drink selection featured some great local brews and drams. 10/10 spot to try if you’re in Edinburgh!
Great food and friendly staff. We would definitely return to this restaurant.
Excellent tasting menu with accompanying wines. Service was very good too, the meal was at a nice pace with little explanations of each course and matched wine.
Delicious food served by friendly and attentive staff. I would certainly recommend the Cellar Door to my friends.
Brilliant really enjoyed it all. Would recommend for a couple
Very quiet, nice pairing of food and wine. Excellent service!
Fantastic experience, the selection was great and theu catered well for vegeterians. Would visit again.
Ambiance agréable et viande savoureuse. Prix raisonnable. Le service est rapide et chaleureux
Tres brien. Food was wonderful, and the added French ambience very welcome :-)
Amazing location, great atmosphere and overall lovely staff with excellent food to match. True taste of Scotland, thanks so much!
Mancare foarte buna, mancare scotiana cu gust.O sa revin cu siguranta👍
Sehr gutes Steak. Das Personal war aufmerksam und freundlich. Die Drinks waren in Ordnung. Ein schöner Abend.
Staff very friendly towards us bringing our dog. However placed at a very small table against the wall with no outlook, away from other customers despite several tables next to us being free. We chose Loch Etive trout and the steak option but the food was mediocre, overrated and overpriced. Unfortunately chose this place because of good reviews but will not be recommending to others certainly not for a birthday treat!
very good food, great drinks, kind service. a not cheap, but worth a visit. thanks
A really delicious meal - cauliflower steak, who'd have thought - absolutely delicious! My husband said it was one of the best steaks he'd had. Great service and a thoroughly nice restaurant. Don't be fooled, it's like the tardis - much bigger inside!
Party of 4 had chosen the festive menu, one of our party had to send the.soup back as it was cold. Our other starters delicious. For the main course Turkey -,there could have been more vegetables. 1.5 sprouts, a couple of small pieces of carrots. A few small pieces of roast potatoes. There could have been more vegetables and the plates would have looked better. The sticky toffee pudding and the moose were lovely. The bill was not correct but was sorted. Overall the meal was OK but we were disappointed.
Food and venue was nice. All staff members were friendly and polite but the service was inconsistent. No water offered, some team members explained the courses in the tasting menu, others just walked off. Enjoyed the experience overall ☺️
We had the 6 course tasting menu with wine pairing. The food was delicious and the wine was superb. The only thing I would comment on would be to serve the wine’s in better wine glasses ie finer glasses to compliment the beautiful wine. Other than that an excellent meal
We hebben genoten van de taste of Scotland, prima bediening.
I was pretty disappointed tonight to be honest! I had raved about your restaurant to my mum who is a big foodie, and booked it for us after a day out wedding shopping. We both had high expectations based on my past experience. The service was very slow. We both had soup to start which was bland. Our mains were eventually served 20 minutes later, and we had ordered a side portion of vegetables to share. I reminded the waitress of this when the mains came and she said they would be with us soon, however we finished our mains and still no side. I had to call over another waitress and ask her to cancel them. Once our main plates were cleared, the waitress asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu. I politely declined as we still had a large glass of red wine each to finish, and within 1 minute (the quickest service all night!) our bill was placed on our table… when we hadn’t asked for it! Our main courses were lovely but not a great experience and I’m gutted after planning it for my mum who usually chooses our restaurants!
Nice place, scottish food, very good location. Really we recommended it.
Amazing food and service! Great vegan options! Waiting staff super friendly and fast service
Excellent service, lovely food and restaurant. The restaurant is a compact venue and as it fills with diners it became quite noisy and found it difficult to have a conversation. Other than this I would return maybe a little earlier in the day.
The restaurant was quiet when we arrived early evening but soon filled up. The food was delicious
Bang average food unfortunately. Felt swamped by the staff trying to get our order out. Starter and main finished within 35 minutes of sitting down. Not a fine dinging experience and glad we didn’t do the tasting menu in the end.
The food was truly delicious and the service were wonderful!
Food was delicious, not much atmosphere although we were a bit early perhaps, maybe slightly cool room? Overall a good dinner, on the spenny side but where isn’t nowadays!
It was a charming restaurant. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was delicious. Thanks so much!
Great staff and value for money. Actual food wasnt amazing
At least 10 words. Good, great service, tasty food like
Staff very attentive and well informed Very good value taster menus
Food was outstanding. Service was a little slow, but we relaxed and enjoyed the atmosphere.
Expensive food, poor service. No smiles from the staff. Will not recommend this place.
The environment was too loud. The white wine was served in a red wine glass. The food was okay, nothing special. It's worth to mention that we did not try the 6 Scottish dish menu.
Very good friendly service. Not a large selection but good food and good wine selection.
Great food and atmosphere. Even when rally busy with the Fringe being on
It was rushed, food was cold. We had been so looking forward to this experience but felt we were on a conveyor belt. I hadn’t drunk my gin fizz before they had brought out the next course and wine to our table. Couple of highlights…the canapé for me and the lemon posset for my husband. The venison might have been very nice but it was cold but according to the waitress that was how it was supposed to be! Dessert wine undrinkable. Feel totally ripped off
In Cambridge, which where I live, there is a restaurant described as 'shabby chique'. Let's stick with that. However the food was all quite superb. I had the 6 course tasting menu, and all courses were wonderful. The flight of wines was equally good. The only thing which puzzled me was the price. How on earth do you manage to produce food of this quality for the what for these days is a very low price!
Staff were lovely, very knowledgeable and I think the Tasting menu is great value for money.
This was the best restaurant meal I had in Edinburgh for my recent trip. I had a perfectly done sea trout which was tremendously delicious and the most perfectly crisp skin which u can hear crackle with each bite. The risotto was also spot on and even the side was good. The hasselback potatoes were amazing. Baked to perfection and tremendously tasty. A great meal!
