The food was very good and well made with nice takes on Scottish dishes. The service was excellent and would definitely recommend a visit to The Cellar Door
We loved the menu and all our party of 6 enjoyed their choices. The lentil soup was bland as the venison a little cold, but these are small points. We had a lovely evening and will definitely go back. Cullen skink is awesome
The staff were very welcoming and we received great service throughout the evening. The quality of food was also good and the prices very reasonable.
Great service! Was not much necessary with booking at the time. But during the busy hours, it is probably best to be prepared and get reservation number.
Amazing food. I had the burger which was honestly top 3 of my life. My boyfriend had the steak which he also raved about. Friendly attentive service. Will definitely be back.
Delicious food with prompt and polite service! Great knowledge of gluten free / coeliac which is invaluable. Highly recommend for a good Scottish dinner in central Edinburgh
Excellent evening. Food and service was very good. I had haggis spring roll to start and venison for main. Both dishes were excellent. Also good value for money. My wife and I both had an aperitif, a starter, main course and one bottle of red wine. The bill came to £82. Would certainly go back.
We ate from the Dinner Menu, which provided a good selection from which to choose, the food was well presented and beautifully cooked. Staff were friendly and attentive.
Nice quiet atmosphere. Food was very competent although we felt that a couple of dishes would have benefitted from a little "more" i.e. another ingredient or more of an existing one. Service was a touch on the down-beat side.
acoustic Approvement. Overall very Nice impression of restaurant. Very opservant Waiter and Quick serving. Very good cooked food - great time to enjoy a Well cooked meal visiting Edinbough
Very busy restaurant but the staff seemed to be in control. A young clientele and a buzzy atmosphere. Great fun, with a very reasonably priced and quite short menu. As it was Edinburgh I had a haggis burger - my first !
The food was incredible absolutely bursting with flavour. 4 things stood out in particular; Haggis Spring rolls, mussels in white wine sauce, Pork Belly and the absolutely mouth watering vegetarian lentil and walnut cakes! As a fairly picky vegetarian I am always hesitant but liked the sound of the meal with crispy Kale and I couldn't have left any happier! Would recommend to anyone but vegetarians will love this option too! (Sound question below is irrelevant as the atmosphere was ideal!)
The food was nice, good size potions, and the waitress was pleasant and attentive, but the temperature of the restaurant was too hot which made it a bit uncomfortable
Rather mediocre but reasonably priced food served in a rather soulless atmosphere. Waitress was brusque to the point of rudeness (though it was unconscious on her part) - seemed in a constant hurry to move us on to the next course and then to pay the bill.
Have been a few times and the food is nice but the service was very disappointing. Not friendly or in anyway engaging. Unlikely to be back
Good food and Excellent and helpful service. If we weren't in town for only 3 days, it would be a place we would go to again
Very nice food, but portion sizes, for each of our party of 3, were small. The evening I felt was spoiled by the restaurant lights being put on, this despite a party just arriving, and also the staff carrying crates of empty bottles past us several times whilst we ate dessert. A real shame.
Very good food, maybe a smaller portion but okay for normal eaters I guess. Service was very friendly, visit was lovely! I will be back!
Great service. Lovely food. Pleasant atmosphere in which to host a visitor. Thank you. I don't have anything more to add today but would return.
The service was quick and very friendly. They don't have a great selection of main courses but the options avalable are good and well made. I will definitively come back.
Had a very enjoyable meal with some great food, nice surroundings and friendly and knowledgeable staff. Had to change our reservation by half an hour and this was no problem to them. Would recommend wholeheartedly.
We had a lovely evening at the Cellar Door. The menu was innovative and everything we ordered was delicious. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely go back.
Fantastic place. Food service atmposphere is first class. Excellent value for money. We needed to be served quick as we had to be at theatre and service was spot on
The food was delicious and nicely presented. The staff were helpful and attentive. The restaurant had an inviting atmosphere despite the unusual entrance down the stairs.
We had a lovely meal, great food and great service. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere too. I recommend the haggis spring rolls to start.
!Lovely meal, friendly staff.Would recommend it.This was our first visit but will probably return on our next visit to Edinburgh. Great !ocation just off the Royal Mile
Wonderful food in a cozy atmosphere. Super service. Had the haggis springroll, cockaleekie chicken, and creme brulee with a cup of espresso. An absolutely perfect meal. So, so happy right now.
This is a great little restaurant with a great vibe. The menu is small but should cater for most pepole. Prices very reasonable and this place is well worth a visit
This is my 3rd visit and once again the staff, food, and atmosphere are awesome! Love this place! Have the sticky toffee pudding and the salmon!
Second time at the Cellar Door! Last time my son said the venison was the best meat he had ever tasted. This time I had it. He was right - not just the quality of the meat but the way it was cooked and presented and served. Great place and will return every time we are in Edinburgh!
Excellent food and service at reasonable prices. Great wine list too and good value for a city centre restaurant. Our second time there and whilst it does attract a large volume of tourists the food is first class. We will definitely be back.
Great restaurant. Very swift service during fringe. Lovely food. We ate the Risotto and Burger, followed by a delicious Vanilla Panacotta. Bill for two mains, one desert and two drinks was about £50.
Great service, from walking in, being offered to choose where we sat, through to the attentive friendly service throughout! Good was decent sized portions, but amazingly tasty and presented in their usual exquisite way! Almost too beautiful to cut apart!! Haggis starter, venison cooked beautifully with beetroot and carrot, with cubed herbed potatoes and sticky toffee pudding left me feeling elated, and not overly stuffed as happens so often on 3 courses!! If you're a regular, I know why, if not............. Why not?? Sort this out now and book up!!!
Great food, excellent service Servie, friendly staff. It was extremely busy but nonetheless, the service was faultless and the staff, although under pressure, did a great job of not showing it!
Great Scottish restaurant, serving delicious freshly made food, complimented with a good selection of drinks including local beers. Staff are very polite and attentive and the service was very quick.
Nice restaurant but soup was lukewarm and the salmon although well cooked was just served with salad. Also had to ask for bread with my soup
Food was excellent, can not decide which part was best, service even better.. Great suggestions regarding whiskey.. all in all an amazing experience, would definitely return
Good food. friendly staff and very professional. Would definately recommend. And, that was when they were busy, so would imagine that it would even better when a 'normal' night
We had to wait a few minutes until our table was ready. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The ordered meals came quickly and tasted very good. It is our 3rd time in this restaurant and we would come again.
Cellar Door was pretty warm and busy when we arrived. Had to wait 5 mins for our table even though we arrived a little after our booking time but this wasn't a biggie. Our waitress was chatty and helpful bringing some ice and opening a door to help cool me down - place was pretty warm despite the high ceilings. First starter of creamed goat cheese with beetroot was good and well presented but could have done with more than one very small toast to go with it, the walnuts were crushed so finely that I've only just realised what the decorative crunchy dust was! The other starter, broccoli and cheddar soup (soup of the day) was very tasty. Mains were mushroom risotto which was plentiful but could have done with more parmesan to add flavour and salmon fillet, both were well cooked. We chose raspberry cranachan cheesecake and sticky toffee for dessert. The cheesecake had chocolate mixed into the base, a surprise, but nice, no whisky tho like most cranachans I've had whilst the sticky toffee pudding sauce was yummy, the pudding part tasted of ginger which was odd. Service was good but very quick, felt like we were in California and there was another sitting of hidden diners waiting for our table!
We had a perfectly nice meal here but I don't think it was as varied a choice of menu as we experienced 12 months ago. And I don't think some of the descriptions of the courses were quite accurate. For example, a starter described as smoked mackerel turned out to be smoked mackerel pate. Very nice and I would have chosen it if I had thought it was a pate rather than smoked mackerel itself. So, no complaints and the service was excellent. Just not quite as good as we remembered.
Super food, great people, lovely place. It's a great place for delicious scottish food and very friendly people. A great local place in the middle of the town.
This restaurant is Edinburgh's hidden Scottish gem. Food is fantastic! Staff were so friendly and very knowledgable about their menu. It is also very reasonably priced. I have a feeling you will need to pre book this little restaurant soon as the word will get out on how fantastic it is. I will be back Cellar Door. Thank you for a lovely evening. :-)
Fantastic meal with a nice cozy environment. Lunch deal of two courses for £12 was a steal. The grilled chicken with couscous was perfect. A good selection of local beers and drinks. Couldn't ask for more. I'd also recommend their cheesecake dessert. It's good to share with another and is extremely fluffy and cheesy with an oat / granola crust on the bottom. Would definitely go again.
We had a lovely lunch today at The Celler Door, the staff were very welcoming and friendly. All in all a very good lunch hour well spent.
We had a lovely meal and it was great service, however, we would have preferred a table on the lower level as we felt a bit cramped in to the corner. I should have requested this when making the booking, will know for the future.
Welcoming, patient (when half our party were late), fast service (during festival), small menu, delicious food, good buzz. Thanks will definitely go again. Lovely Cranachan cheese cake!
Really good meal, nice to see good vegetarian dishes on the menu and we liked the Scotttish-themed dishes. The puddings were especially wonderful, and we had excellent service. There is a great atmosphere there too. If we had one suggestion it would be to lower the music volume a bit once the place filled up. Would certainly recommend The Cellar Door.
Fantastic food, fantastic atmosphere and fantastic service. Really enjoyed the food and the experience was worth every penny. A very good night out. Couldn't have asked for more.
Staff are super very kind and caring! we took the fried haddock and it was good, just too oily for my tastes. Desserts are excellent! highly reccomended
