We had a lovely meal and it was great service, however, we would have preferred a table on the lower level as we felt a bit cramped in to the corner. I should have requested this when making the booking, will know for the future.

Welcoming, patient (when half our party were late), fast service (during festival), small menu, delicious food, good buzz. Thanks will definitely go again. Lovely Cranachan cheese cake!

This restaurant is Edinburgh's hidden Scottish gem. Food is fantastic! Staff were so friendly and very knowledgable about their menu. It is also very reasonably priced. I have a feeling you will need to pre book this little restaurant soon as the word will get out on how fantastic it is. I will be back Cellar Door. Thank you for a lovely evening. :-)

We had a perfectly nice meal here but I don't think it was as varied a choice of menu as we experienced 12 months ago. And I don't think some of the descriptions of the courses were quite accurate. For example, a starter described as smoked mackerel turned out to be smoked mackerel pate. Very nice and I would have chosen it if I had thought it was a pate rather than smoked mackerel itself. So, no complaints and the service was excellent. Just not quite as good as we remembered.

Cellar Door was pretty warm and busy when we arrived. Had to wait 5 mins for our table even though we arrived a little after our booking time but this wasn't a biggie. Our waitress was chatty and helpful bringing some ice and opening a door to help cool me down - place was pretty warm despite the high ceilings. First starter of creamed goat cheese with beetroot was good and well presented but could have done with more than one very small toast to go with it, the walnuts were crushed so finely that I've only just realised what the decorative crunchy dust was! The other starter, broccoli and cheddar soup (soup of the day) was very tasty. Mains were mushroom risotto which was plentiful but could have done with more parmesan to add flavour and salmon fillet, both were well cooked. We chose raspberry cranachan cheesecake and sticky toffee for dessert. The cheesecake had chocolate mixed into the base, a surprise, but nice, no whisky tho like most cranachans I've had whilst the sticky toffee pudding sauce was yummy, the pudding part tasted of ginger which was odd. Service was good but very quick, felt like we were in California and there was another sitting of hidden diners waiting for our table!

Food & service excellent - a bit noisy but it was very busy - a particularly loud group of women! Our 2nd visit and would definitely go again

Fantastic meal with a nice cozy environment. Lunch deal of two courses for £12 was a steal. The grilled chicken with couscous was perfect. A good selection of local beers and drinks. Couldn't ask for more. I'd also recommend their cheesecake dessert. It's good to share with another and is extremely fluffy and cheesy with an oat / granola crust on the bottom. Would definitely go again.

Really good meal, nice to see good vegetarian dishes on the menu and we liked the Scotttish-themed dishes. The puddings were especially wonderful, and we had excellent service. There is a great atmosphere there too. If we had one suggestion it would be to lower the music volume a bit once the place filled up. Would certainly recommend The Cellar Door.

I booked online and it was so easy. The environment is cosy and the staff very friendly. I had Creamed Goats Cheese with Pickled Beetroot, Beetroot Puree & Walnuts for first which was surprisingly good! I had the salmon for main and it was delicious! It literally melted in my mouth! The wine, Torre Cerere Montepulciano D'Abruzzo was very good, too! Overall, I found the prices quite reasonable and I am definitely going back!

Relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, excellent menu. This is a hidden gem in Old Town. We visited during the Festival when all restaurants tend to be stretched but The Cellar Door coped admirably. We will return when the tourists and festival crowds have gone.

The food was very good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The only slight issue was that the area we were seated in was under an arch without a nearby window and was really quite warm and uncomfortable at times. It would be good if there was either a fan to keep the area cool or some other type of air conditioning.

We had a fabulous meal at The Cellar Door! It is a bit hidden but finding it was well worth it. The food was fresh, the menu had great variety and it was a great value. We also had a fantastic picpoul wine which is a new addition to the menu. Highly recommend a meal here if you are in Edinburgh!

We were warmly welcomed and the space is bright and open. There were four of us so we all ordered different dishes from the menu (starters and mains) and they were all of high quality. We will definitely be returning.

Very good. The food very well prepared. And although the menu is not long they hsve dofferent choices to suit everyone. Nice environment. I even asked a special gift and they arranged everything. I regret only one waitress was having a bad day, abd was a bit rude. So only for that i dont give max score.

It's always great to be in The Cellar Door: good food, nice drinks, great service, lovely atmosphere. Even the location, on the busy George IV Bridge, is not in your mind when you take the steps down into the restaurant.

Great food, great service, but the atmosphere was the only downfall. The lack of people eating out on a Tuesday night can not be blamed on them however. It was all in all a fabulous meal, expensive yet not unreasonably priced for the delicious food

A lovely little restaurant with very good value set menu. Staff friendly and efficient. The worst thing is the stairs! I hadn't realised the venue was downstairs, even though you enter from George IV Bridge level. Hardly their fault though! Interestingly, as we got up to leave after lunch, there was a chocolate workshop starting to take place and that looked good too. I would definitely return.

Fantastic service, lovely atmosphere. We were well looked after and the waitress paid particular attention to the fact that it was one of our parties birthday. When dessert was served it was decorated with a candle. The food was very tasty, well presented and very good value for money. We had 3 courses for £20. Would recommend and will be back again for another team meal out :)
