Phenomenal, friendly service and an excellently prepared traditional Scottish meal. The ambiance was hip without being offensive. The girls on bar and waitstaff here are truly delightful. 5 stars.
Lovely food, great location and very friendly staff. We had the fish platter for two, consisting of a variety of fish each cooked to differently, making for a very interesting meal. I'd highly recommend.
Another fab meal in one of Edinburgh's best restaurants! Excellent food. Exceptional service. The finest Scottish cuisine. My third visit to The Cellar Door, and each time my expectations are exceeded.
A warm welcome and our order taken, they forgot to bring the bread and olives until they were almost ready to serve the food. Our side plates were removed unceremoniously and the food served. It was rather dull and two of us thought it was rather cold. My salmon was nicely cooked but the potatoes it sat on we're barely warm. Pub grub and not the best of that, rather than restaurant food and rather overpriced. I know it is the festival but perhaps that is your chance to show off and shiine rather than embarrass yourselves. The waitresses were lovely but something needs to get sorted out between them and the kitchen.
We had a lovely family lunch here during the Festival, modern restaurant, polite staff and lovely food. Great choices on the Menu, perhaps more Gluten Free options would be better though.
We enjoyed good food, the staff was very nice, and the prices low. I would recommend it to someone who wants to have a nice lunch and discover scottish food.
Nice atmosphere, good menu with decent number of good veggie options, nicely judged food - fair prices and portions, well set for good service. If you like the look of the menu, then you should find they deliver on it.
Always a great eating experience at this restaurant. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere and excellent food. This was my third visit and I'm sure there'll be more.
The food was well prepared and a great deal of thought had gone into the presentation. The staff were attentive and pleasant, and customer satisfaction seemed important to them.
Nice environment. Good service and good food. Good wine and beer choice. Happy evening with a friend I didn't catch up with since long time. Would recommend
Highest rating for the starter, a tartlet of asparagus, tomato and goat cheese. The rib eye was fine, but unexceptional. Noise level was moderate, service excellent.q
Service friendly and excellent with nothing to much trouble. The meal was terrific and excellent value. We have already recommended the cellar door to all our friends and looking forward to going back in the future.
Excellent food. Good varied menu all cooked quite superbly. Staff were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Restaurant was comfortable and had a really nice atmosphere. Highly recommend.
The food was anazing and the staff were lovely...just a little slow than eouls have been expected for a business lunch Very highly recommended 😊
Lovely smiling and knowledgeable staff along with relatively quick service. Easy to book dinner online. Only downside was the recommended main course (a seafood sharing fish off the specials menu) was a bit dry. Waitress did acknowledge the comments we made and said they'd be passed on to the chef. As an apology, we did receive a discount on the bill, which was good of them.
Sehr nettes kleines Restaurant, in dem man gepflegt typisch schottisch essen kann. Wir waren mit der Qualität der Speisen sowie dem freundlichen Service sehr zufrieden.
Set lunch menu great food excellent value and terrific service I will go back as location very good and atmosphere was good at lunchtime and imagine better at night Tony
Food and Atmosphere quite nice our meal was mucked up a little but was ok. the staff were very friendly and helpful. restaurant was cosy
Very disappointing. Chicken satay and avocado for starter was served without avocado!! Starters were only warm. Table of 7 next to us also served wrong starters. We won't be back.
Each course was delicious and well presented. I appreciated that the courses were good portions, but not overwhelmingly large. I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
Delicious food very nicely served. Pleasant staff and smart decor. Restaurant was quiet at lunchtime and deserves to be busier, particularly in such a prime location.
Gentilissimi all'accoglienza, posto romantico e intimo. Cibo squisito e gustoso, sia il pollo che il pesce. Alla fine, per il compleanno di mia moglie, hanno anche portato il dolce con con una simpatica candelina...
Great meal and our server was fantastic...menu is focused so check to see if they have something that tickles your fancy. This is the restaurant for those who seek out the unique and not run of the mill...give them a try...we loved it!
Superb food. We came here two years ago when we visited Edinburgh as a work friend recommend and we wasn't disappointed. We had to visit The Cellar Door again. Staff was amazing, took the time to talk to you and made you feel welcome. Definitely worth a visit!
Staff were really friendly and the food was great. Was a great find and have passed it on to some friends who were going up next weekend
Amazing food. Really good use of colours, flavours and textures. I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Endinburgh, one of the best meals I've had in a long time.
The staff very friendly menu small but adequate. Enough on the a la carte and the set menu which is very reasonable. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would with this experience of going back.
A real find. Great mix of cuisines from Scotland and Europe with a bit of Asian thrown in. Beautifully presented and served. We'll be back on our next visit to Edinburgh.
Professional attention. Prompt service. Delicious meal. Everything was brilliant - our every need attended to. We had a deadline to eat by and the service and meal were still outstanding.
Good food, good service, friendly staff. What more can anyone ask for? We had a good dinner and a nice conversation with our server. I would come back here again if I'm in Edinburgh.
Lovely place and friendly staff. Nice relaxed atmosphere, good food, we've been several times and will keep coming back. This place is one of Edinburgh's gems.
This was our third visiting and once again the food was excellent, the staff are so welcoming and friendly. What more can you ask for. Planning a return visit for Easter. Excellent restaurant.
Food was great, service was great. Only small issue was cost of one of kids desserts £6 for 3 scoops of ice cream when my other daughters cost £2 - just because she had a starter and main course off adult menu.
Set menu is great value, the food is a really high standard and the wine very reasonably priced. Would highly recommend this restaurant to both guests and locals
Lovely hidden gem and cozy restaurant. Food was well presented and delicious. Would definitely recommend this place if you want to try authentic Scottish cuisine.
Nice restaurant. Food was good without being great. Staff were friendly but very busy so there was a bit of a wait to get served.
The food was excellent and interesting. Starters of cauliflower 3 ways and pork terrine were packed with flavour and mains of chicken with haggis and haddock risotto were equally great. Service friendly and efficient. A very underrated restaurant which deserves to succeed.
Restaurant a bit chaotic-stag party in-mistakes being made but food good, main courses especially, and pleasant waitress. It was okay but expensive-wouldn't be in too much of a hurry to return.
Excellent meal and first class service. Will certainly be back.Arrived early for meal but no problem. The venison was fantastic and the rhubarb crime brûlée best ever.
Intriguing venue in a central location but, as the name suggests, you need to be able to climb stairs! Good food, helpful and friendly staff. Good value too.
Food was excellent, great menu choice. Service was excellent, very helpful and efficient despite restaurant being busy? A great place to eat, drink and meet up with friends.
Amazing small restaurant, food was outstanding and the staff were ever so friendly and helpful. That's my second visit and will definitely be back next time I visit Edinburgh. Excellent 👍🏻
Very enjoyable lunch , friendly staff and good food. The restaurant is very pleasant and had a very nice set lunch menu with good choice of wines and beers.
most of the dishes we ordered were too heavily salted and my chips were cut very unevenly in size (and not uniformly cooked through as a result).
Fantastic restaurant right in the heart of the city. The food was excellent, the staff were the most attentive I've ever experienced and the surroundings were beautiful. We will definitely be coming back and I would highly recommend a visit.
The people next to us where completely drunk and loud that we could not even understand each other's while we were speaking. The food was delicious
Food and service were excellent. Venison cooked to perfection. Homemade rum & raisin ice cream was excellent. Definitely a place to visit when in Edinburgh
Good traditional Scottish menu and friendly staff. The service was really quick. And the best sticky toffee pudding I have ever had. Would definitely recommend.
Food and evening was excellent. Problems with electronic payment system made this part of the evening frustrating. Glad we were not running for a train
Making the reservation was easy and the table was ready. I had completely overlooked the fact that there would be Christmas parties in progress and the noise (at first) was deafening. However, I enjoyed the atmosphere. The food (sweet potato soup, chicken with haggis stovies) that I ate was very good. In the circumstances the service was outstanding. Stephanie (university student) and Lorna were very attentive. Well done!
